This is not really an answer about Jelurida's motivation, just a reminder that if you have bags full of Ardor (ARDR) you should really consider forging.
As the Ardor ecosystem grows, you will earn more ARDR from the blocks you forge, but even now Jelurida is paying forgers for their help securing the network by distributing IGNIS randomly to Ardor block generators via a lightweight contract. 170K Ignis per month (Ardor and Nxt forging rewards combined).

I see you asked the same question on the slack. That's where the Devs are most active so it's probably best to monitor that option.
for those that are interested, here's NXT's data: https://www.jelurida.com/nxt-loadtest-results
As per the dev, ARDR and NXT shoudl have similar performance
1 - The official Nxt wallet - https://www.jelurida.com/nxt/downloads
2 - Ardor (and ignis) is another multichain blockchain platform developed by the same core developers who develope Nxt - jelurida. Waves is a different project created by a former member of the Nxt community
3- When somebody clones Nxt and creates a new blockchain, they need to assign/airdrop at least 10% of the cloned coins to Nxt holders. You don't receive the airdrop in your Nxt wallet, but instead you receive your cloned coins in the clone's wallet -just log in clone's wallet using the same credentials you currently use to log in to your Nxt wallet (i.e. same passphrase or same account number with a different prefix)
4- Nxt has a lot of built-in features (Asset creation, marketplace, voting system, alias, marketplace, shuffling, smart transactions...) so the imagination is the only limit
5- Jelurida are the Nxt/Ardor core devs. On the other hand, Nxter is an excellent website created by members of the community.
confirmations 1440 sounds like nxt rather than ardor, as ardor is 770. Are you sure you have the latest client? It should be2.3.3 for ardor or 1.12.2 for nxt. You also need a minimum of 1000 to forge.
Which version are you using? Win/Mac/Linux?
Are you sure the blockchain is completely downloaded? It should be a small window at the bottom right of the screen. If it is not completely downloaded it jumps around a bit. The nxt blockchain might take up to 2 days to download. You can download half the blockchain at jelurida website. The ardor should only take about half hour to download the blockchain from the beginning.
When it is downloaded, just click the start forging button and enter your passphrase.
There is a read only wallet available, so there is a chance you are using this wallet, which I believe because it is only read only, does not have the ability to forge.
Post abn update on how you go, or you could post the log file when you get the issue here or on the jerurida forum site.
Good luck
The number of transactions is artificially limited at the moment.
Currently each child chain block can contain up to 100 transactions. And there can be up to 10 child chain blocks at the same time in every Ardor block.
One block is generated every minute in average. So it makes around 1000 transactions per minute at the moment.
But as I said, that's an artificial limitation for now. Some load tests (https://www.jelurida.com/nxt-loadtest-results) were performed on Nxt (Ardor is based on Nxt), and they suggest the # of transactions could be much higher in the future.
API and sending funds are disabled at Jelurida public node (nxt.jelurida.com). To sync your node faster, you can download the latest Nxt database snapshot from https://www.jelurida.com/nxt/downloads (scroll to the bottom of the page) and try API right from your local fully synced node.
