Yay has recently been rewritten in Rust by one of its maintainers. The project is called paru. Not sure if that helps though, since the Rust toolchain will need some space too.
Since you came over to Arch's ecosystem, if you want to grab something from the AUR (like any other Arch user does eventually), i'll recommend you to install paru as your AUR helper, it has a nice feature where it won't let you to install anything if you don't read the PKGBUILD first. Also, try to Learn some bash and about the PKGBUILD system.
~9/10 times, the thing you're looking for will be in the official repositories. In the case of Steam, you do need to enable the multilib repo in your pacman config. Check https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/steam#Installation for more info.
And if it's not in the official repo's, chances are it will be available in the AUR. You can use an AUR helper like paru to make installing these packages easier.
I have some tips since I was struggling myself until success..
/boot/refind_linux.conf
) and you are done, no more headache. You can install an AUR helper, such as paru, to basically do this process for you. More info here: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/AUR_helpers
Note that AUR helpers are officially unsupported, so you should know the manual way in case anything goes wrong (and of course you'll need to use the manual method to install an AUR helper in the first place!)
You can flip it:
Flip search order: To get search results to start at the bottom and go upwards, enable BottomUp in paru.conf.
(Just copied from the GitHub page
Dropbox has their own PGP key because they upload it directly to the AUR that key is for
if you use a tool like yay or paru it can handle all of this for you, I recommend paru because it's more modern and faster https://github.com/Morganamilo/paru
just run
sudo pacman -S --needed base-devel
git clone https://aur.archlinux.org/paru.git
cd paru
makepkg -si
I've been using
paru
. It seems to be pretty good, although I hadn't used yay
a whole lot before I switched.
I think it's the successor to yay
, but I could be wrong
Even though I don't think it's a good idea not to look at the files (there have been manipulated recipes in the AUR in the past), the parameter --skipreview has recently been added that allows you to prevent the files from being displayed.
Both of them are updated in the AUR. So I guess it's your AUR helper that have some problems.
> git clone https://aur.archlinux.org/paru.got
That command is successful
Then I change into paru directory and initiate "makepkg -si"
Result :
Since rust is a dependency it installs rust. Then the error occurs while downloading "paru-1.1.3.tar.gz"
Error :
> 0curl: (7) couldn't connect to server Error: Failure while downloading https://github.com/Morganamilo/paru/archive /v1.1.3.tar.gz Aborting ...
paru supports printing the latest Arch Linux news on upgrade with a command line flag or a config file option, which is what I use. It only adds like, half a second to a second of time to the update check, so it's super worth.
