On mobile? Because if you're on the desktop, this works too.
But given that ads are how they make money, how about a solution that's actually fair to Pandora, like giving them ~~$60/year~~ $36/year for a subscription? Bam, no ads.
Been using Slacker a lot more since i got a Roku. The only problem i have with Slacker is that they tell you it's Slacker every other song.
i love the ban artist option. Slow jam on the 90's hits station? Ban artist.
Also Pithos is a great Pandora app for Linux. no commercials ever.
There are also a couple good GUI native applications for using Pandora on Linux.
Pithos is a great Pandora front-end (I especially love that it has no ads and unlimited skips on free accounts). There's a Google Music script for Amarok, though I've never used it. I've had pretty much the same experience you mentioned with Nuvola (buggy); unfortunately, AFAIK it's the only program I know of that integrates so many cloud music services.
also, for those who want an out of terminal experience: http://kevinmehall.net/p/pithos/
AUR and DEB available, (never used rpm so don't know)
it's built on pianobar, so you get all of the same features.
Interesting. I hadn't looked at Clementine in a long time, it used to be just an old version of Amarok, ported over to work with KDE 4, looks like it's progressed some since then.
Recently, I've gone really simple and just run Pithos. http://kevinmehall.net/p/pithos/
It's pandora integrated into your desktop, which is pretty slick. There's not so much work involved on your part as with these library apps, and you are automatically fed new interesting music.
I don't have Skype (you seem to be asking about that in the comments). PM me if you want my email address. I would be happy to help you with any project you might have in mind.
I know some Python. I have worked with it sporatically for about 3 years, including teaching it to a few people. I do not consider myself to be an expert, by any stretch, but I could definitely be of use.
As /u/kamonohashisan said, Linux is much better than Windows (presumably) for Python coding. That isn't to say that you can't do Python coding on Windows, it just happens to be notably easier on Linux.
Most of my work is in other languages, including all of my current projects; so, I don't have any ideas for you there.
For a long time, I have been wanting to make some changes to Kevin Mehall's Pithos, which happens to be written in Python. This would be much more suitable for a beginner than /u/kamonohashisan's machine learning stuff (not to detract from his work). Pithos is a Linux program, so I don't know if you would directly benefit from it.
I stopped an update to Pandora, uninstalled and canceled my Pandora One subscription when they started demanding access to my contacts (pithos FTW).
The same with quite a few android apps that want inappropriate access to my info. I'm hoping CM9 has granular permissions so I can still use the app but still keep my location, contacts etc. private.
What, so artists get even less? (And yes, I know their labels are screwing them out of that, but that's between them and the label.)
I'm perfectly fine with the Pandora One subscription model. I wish they had better clients -- I still use Pithos on Linux -- but I was actually overestimating it, it's like $36/year. As in $2/mo. Is that really too much? If they had fewer ads, great, $2/mo still isn't much to ask for something I listen to all day at work.
Glad you like it :). I use Pithos as I am a Debian guy but thanks to zigzagzoe, Windows users rejoice. One of those apps that deserves a Paypal donation. You are still limited by the hourly limit but meh.
I use and love pianobar (and I wrote a wrapper for emacs so I can listen while I code), but for people who want something a bit more GUI-ey, Pithos is hard to beat.
