If you own the game on steam to play it on PC, you already have the right to run the dedicated server. Follow these instructions.
PC, Console? My wife plays Portal Knight with our daughter console. Similar to Minecraft with better graphics but on a smaller scale. It is also an action-adventure game.
You can play single-player, split-screen, local co-op (two or more systems on the same network), online or any combination of those.
One of the things we liked was you don't have to make a new character every time you join someone's map. You can use the same character across all your maps or even make sure news ones to play on an existing map.
Sometimes we all play together via split-screen and local co-op. They play on one console and I join them from my console.
