The people who go to game developer hubs is other game developers.
(Edit: Hijacking my own comment because it's the top comment and I'm a scumlord.
From a blog post I wrote in 2014:
>The issues with Greenlight and the increasingly large Steam library parallel a lot of the issues in the indie game scene. Lots of products, but no good ways of sorting and finding relevant products. The problem is primarily one of query, not over abundance of product. Google isn’t bad because it has indexed thousands upon thousands of crappy, irrelevant sites. It’s good because you can type in a terse phrase and generally find relevant results.
>In other words, focus on query and not curation. Curation is a very small part of the problem.
>Steam’s game categorization is really bad; Indie is considered a genre. I think even the most definition liberal individual would agree that is not helpful. Contrast that with Shiny Loot’s genre and trait system. It has issues as well, such as the Casual genre, but look at Empire Building and Hack-n-Slash – why aren’t these on all distribution sites?

Everything is DRM-free. No Steam keys today. Sale ends in ~12 hours from the time of this post.
Full list of 200+ games for 50% off can be found here. Use 3rd party keys dropdown on the sidemenu to see Desura or Steam key games.
> Being independent we have our lulls. Also a bit unfortunate family matters for both the founders to attend to recently.
That was from October from last year so maybe things have changed since then.
Or have Groupees take over the name like they did with Bundle in a Box?
The Few was in a similar position in a previous Groupees Shinyloot bundle. Apparently they couldn't decide who should actually hand out the Steam key so I just emailed the devs instead. I imagine something similar will happen with this game also.
EDIT: I take that back. I doublechecked my Shinyloot profile and a Steam key is sitting there. So whenever it gets greenlit look for it here: http://www.shinyloot.com/m/personal
Groupees normally gives out steam/desura keys. In a "shiny loot bundle," it will give out keys that can be redeemed on Shiny Loot:
http://www.shinyloot.com/redeem
So, if you buy the $1 tier for Fortix 2, you will get a code, which, on redemption, will add this game to your library. From there, you can generate a steam code and redeem it on steam (because the game description says "Third Party Keys:Steam"). You can also download a drm-free copy of the game.
I would go for EU4.
It is newest, good and you don't need any of the DLC stuff to get the full experience unless you want to play as american indian tribe.
EU4 and CK2 are currently in sale.

http://www.shinyloot.com/crusader-kings-2?re=custom-filter-exact-7
However for CK2 you really want few of the DLCs as well so buying just base game isn't too good deal.
Store page for the lazy: http://store.steampowered.com/app/365450
Also, it's apparently free here, but it says no DRM or keys, which means it's probably a download, and it says Windows only on it. http://www.shinyloot.com/hacknet?aid=c0bb80b263632ad2a91dfd293bb6f88a (edit: just made an account to download it... it's definitely just a Windows installer)
Don't check Groupees, check your Shiny Loot login.
Don't know if they added keys yet for that game, but if you got a Groupees Shiny Loot bundle, that shoudl be where they show up.
Yep - we actually have almost 100 titles that are DRM-free + Steam. If you're interested, this is the full list.
I've you're limited older/lower end machine which your post seems to imply then it might be worth checking out GOG as they for the most part special in older games. Other options include Humble Store and ShinyLoot.
There are obviously other choices but these specifically have largely DRM free libraries.

Perspective isn't a Steam game. Find it here.
SpaceChem does go to some pretty good prices. I checked isthereanydeal and it's 50% off right now:. I did play Polarity! It was surprisingly solid in mechanics. I wish the secrets were hidden better. Also, how far are you in LYNE? I'm honestly waiting for it to show some new mechanics :P
Oh! There is the Hexcells series, which is pretty good - it's a bit like Minesweeper.
Googled and found this thread where someone describes the same thing: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.166417-Old-Games-you-remember-playing-but-cant-remember-the-name-of?page=17#13636443
The answer in that thread was Knights and Merchants
Not in your typical indie bundle but all three of them have been bundled before in physical game bundles in stores. Shinyloot has them bundled as well.
No. Only those where the game description on Shiny Loot says "third party keys: steam."
Check this list:
http://www.shinyloot.com/steam-keys
If a game's on there, you ought to get a Steam key.
