Besides Vanced and NewPipe I also know of NewPipe with integrated SponsorBlock, SongTube, and SkyTube, however I haven’t tried the two latter.
If you use a phone browser that supports extensions like Kiwi or Firefox Nightly you could also just install adblock extensions (like uBlock Origin and SponsorBlock) and get ad-free YouTube like that.
Had the same problem on mobile and found Skytube , an app that lets you view youtube videos without an account the UI is a bit tricky but you get used to it, there are other alternatives but they didn t work for me
If you want to use NewPipe but are not satisfied with the usability of youtube in a browser, consider the app Skytube (is free and open source). It uses the NewPipe API in the background, but adds features such as gesture control, a blacklist for vids/channels you don't want to see/ get recommendations for, as well as the normal NewPipe stuff, meaning video downloads and import of your youtube subscriptions.
Only downside is that it's not available in the playstore, but only in F-droid, an appstore for open source software.
If you're interested, go to: https://skytube-app.com
What about SkyYube? Available on F-Droid. Its website here: https://skytube-app.com/
It has better/more functionality than NewPipe with minimal permissions, although I don't know why it has the REQUEST_INSTALL_PACKAGES permission (blocked via XprivacyLua & AppOps):
For comparison, here's NewPipe's permissions.
I prefer Skytube. You can download it via F-Droid, G-Play or via the website.
Futures:
- Open source project
- Video blocker
- Subscribe function
- Bookmark function
Its much better than the origin one.
So for everyone that gets annoyed you can't block channels in YouTube - I found an Android app that does! It's called SkyTube and has all sorts of other useful features. Only thing is it blocks all ads by default so creators might not get revenue…still pondering what to do about that
