Someone else mentioned Brogue, and that's a great example of a more traditional roguelike. I'm going to recommend ToME. ToME plays more like a western turn-based RPG than a traditional roguelike. It's based mostly around activated abilities, and has several unique and unlockable classes and races. There are also several tilesets available, built right in to the standard package. Also, the music is done by the Celestial Aeon Project, and is pretty damn good. The storyline is also pretty interesting. If you're looking for a Roguelike that's close to a standard RPG, check ToME out.
Hey, just wanted to tell you that you can try the free version.
If you like it you have 2 options:
Buy it from steam and connect your account to keep unlocks / achievements
Donate to the dev directly and unlock the DLC for the free version by doing so.

The main thing you'd miss with option 2 would be the workshop support.
But i don't use addons anyways.
So it's your choice. The price is almost the same and option 2 goves no money to steam .
Tales of Maj’Eyal (TOME) started out free, and their website even still offers a free/open source version as well as the game engine, but there's a premium version sold on steam that's quite popular.
I'm not sure what the differences are between the free and paid versions. Maybe do some research on the history of TOME and follow a similar path? Then again, TOME was pretty popular before being sold, so if your game hasn't gained any popularity yet it might be ok to just do an about face and post a friendly explanation to the forum where you originally announced it would be free.
