Or you can give the VPN service that's built in to popcorntime a try,i tested it when they implemeted it in popcorntime and i had no problems, very stable and good speed's.
To be safe and avoid things like this in the future you can use a VPN service.
You can always check out the one that's integrated in popcorntime for easy use.
You can find them here:
It's only 1$ the first month,then it's 4.99$ a month. Or 40$ for a hole year.
You can also go here for some tips regarding VPN services /r/vpn
After this post I tried Pocorn-time for the first time. Boy, I was excited. Sleek design, high quality, built on bittorrent... Now the best part. It has a cheap VPN service https://vpn.ht/ built in and you can pay for it with bitcoins.
I use vpn.ht and are very happy with their price and service.
You can probably find more good advice here: /r/VPN
Or read this:
https://torrentfreak.com/vpn-anonymous-review-160220/
https://torrentfreak.com/anonymous-vpn-service-provider-review-2015-150228/
Prices are very good, i use them and have no complaints.
Easy set up, good guides and good speed when i'm connected.
Can easy chose between different servers in different regions/countrys and unlock content that's not available in your own region.
Edit:
For those who are concerned about any legal issues regarding the take down of PT, can read their own statement about the situation and what it means for vpn.ht customers here.
The built in VPN service has a 100% Money-Back Guarantee for your first 30 days of service. So just try and if it doesn't meet your standards just get your money back.
Here is the offer they have for popcorntime users:
https://vpn.ht/popcorntime?_ref=get
Then you just need to pay 1$ the first month.
Here you can contact the guys yourself and ask anything you want, they will answer you.
I can recommend Protonvpn, they are very privacy focused and the paid version support P2P traffic which you need to use pocorntime. I use both VPN i recommend here.
If you want to support the people behind popcorntime you can use vpn.ht that are integrated with popcorntime and makes it very easy to use. It's never free to host servers, maintain code and all the work behind the scenes and they are paying for this out of their own pocket so we can enjoy this for free.
The important thing is that you protect yourself and stay safe, there are tons of VPN services out there and hopefully you will get some good recommendations.
As everyone has said, VPN is your best bet here.
There are several options though.
I purchase and use the PT recommended vpn.ht for my laptop use.
But i have also set up my WiFi router to use one of their VPN servers so that ALL Traffic in my home is routed through another server.
So if you were to do a "Find my IP" from any internet connected device in my home, it would show geographically elsewhere, not just the laptop i have my client installed on.
I have not noticed any degradation in network speeds in streaming, and i feel like this is a good safeguard for general traffic, then when i'm using PT, i turn on my client VPN and it "double" routes.
The other benefit is being able to choose servers in different regions. For instance, I choose a server in the UK when i want to watch a Netflix show that is not on Netflix in the US (Star Trek Discovery being the main one).
Here you can see all the 122 servers and what they offer:
For any other question about their service i would recomend you to contact them here:
First question: OpenVPN is better. If you get the same IP, then it's not connecting properly. Try a standalone connection by using the support docs that they offer: https://vpn.ht/contact Second: It is supposed to. Sometimes it does not but kills your internet.
It will only seed while you stream/download the movie, you can hoover the mouse over the eye in the internal player to find all the information about the torrent your watcing.
The built in VPN service has a 100% Money-Back Guarantee for your first 30 days of service,so why not try and if they don't meet your standards you can always get your money back.
I recomend you to read this so you can understand better how popcorntime works.

The red lock is an indicator if the built in VPN service is activ(Green) or disabled(Red).
So if you need to hide/mask your streaming/downloading you can use the built in VPN service( https://vpn.ht/ ),or if you already have a VPN service from another provider you can still use it,it's just not built in to popcorntime itself.
The Built in VPN on Popcorntime routes all traffic through the VPN service.
And regarding speed you just have to try with your set up and see, they have a 100% Money-Back Guarantee for your first 30 days of service so just try and get your money back if they don't meet your standards.

You will receive a coupon you can use so you only pay a small amount on the one integrated. This is the one integrated in popcorntime https://vpn.ht/ Edit:And they use OpenVPN as part of their service.Thx to bobtentpeg for the info.
I was not familiar with vpn.ht so I went looking for information. They are a small vpn located in Hong Kong. Their network is small, 95 servers located in a total of 22 countries. The lawsuit was filed in Virginia which is known to be friendly to copyright claims. I doubt if the vpn company keeps much assets in their Paypal account.
I use vpn.ht and it works quite well for what I was looking for. There are plenty of servers to choose from and I did not notice any significant latency increase. In fact some sites like Twitch and Reddit perform much better while I am using it. I am willing to bet there is a funky setting on this router though but I am too lazy to figure it out since it is not mine.
I did not really shop around too much though however I am satisfied with the purchase.
I use VPN.ht they are not super expensive and have multiple config files for the different countries they offer services in. I am not being paid by them I just really like their product and customer support. I started WGU and used this VPN while on vacation in Cancun Mexico.
Azure VPN is more geared towards business / corporate environments that are using Azure cloud services.
So no it wouldn't be good.
Personally i use vpn.ht and it's been just fine. Easy to use, not expensive, and does exactly as advertised.
There are plenty of other choices out there, but Azure should not be one of them.
Use a VPN , you can try around those Providers who are allowing torrents you can try https://vpn.ht/popcorntime it is virtually free for 30 days .... or of course there is a alot out there https://torrentfreak.com/vpn-services-anonymous-review-2017-170304/
You guys if you are living in the US you should really USE VPN ! the notice are real even if some ISP do not follow the rules they will end up doing it
Get a VPN ( https://vpn.ht ) Cheap and Virtually free on the first 30 days
Download their VPN client from here:
Then start vpn.ht and choose your location and press start. Then you can use popcorntime and not worry about getting caught or blocked.
And you have checked that you are connected and that it's working properly when you connect.
You can use that link to check and make sure it's working properly.
Here you can contact them:
Maybe email them at or PM one of their reps?
/r/PopCornTime/comments/3k1ec2/vpnht_running_extremely_slow/cuurt7g
They have a support page but that seems to be non-functional at the moment.
There's also /r/VPNTorrents or /r/VPN, maybe somenoe there has more info.
If i try to go to their support site i just get this Message:
maintenance in progress come back in ~5 minutes. thanks ! Please email us if you need any support or for refund request
Not really sure what causes the problem, but your not the only one Reporting this problem today.
But drop them an email and i'm sure they will help you.
It looks like it's just the support site that's Down for maintenance.
Well, a proxy is going to lower your streaming speeds no matter what. That's just how it works.
Here's the file and software that is on their site. I use it for when I want to turn it on without having popcorntime up
I just got popcorn time from the .io domain and it has the VPN feature described by OP.
Edit: there is also a lock icon in the top right to sign up for a VPN, unchecking the VPN setting just gets rid of the icon. Clicking the icon takes you here to sign up for a built in VPN.
You should be using this one (if you don't have something else) runs about $3 a month.
edit: The "one" is a link even though it doesn't look like it on this sub
I've heard only god things about them,so as long as they meet your standards and not charge you to mutch i think your good.
If you are looking to change provider you can always check out the one that's integrated in popcorntime for easy use.
You can find them here:
It's only 1$ the first month,then it's 4.99$ a month. Or 40$ for a hole year.
As /u/wunshott says if you check this site you will see they have clients for use with popcorntime and clients for whatever other OS you may need it for like,Windows,Linux,Mac OS X,iOS and Android.
Use a VPN service to bypass this.
You can always check out the VPN service integrated in popcorntime,it's just 1$ the first month, then it's 4.99$ a month or 40$ for a hole year.
There are some free VPN services but those aren't as reliable as a paid one. And some of the free ones block p2p.
Popcorntime's build in VPN functionality uses https://vpn.ht which I recommend looking into
Popcorntime should work with all VPN services, they only hide/mask your traffic from your local ISP so it shouldn't matter what service you use.
Free VPN services has to make money some way,it's not free to run sutch a service. So often YOU will be their product, logging your data and selling it is one way they can earn some dough on you.So be careful and do some checking before choosing a service.
I recomend the built in one,it's integrated in popcorntime witch means you don't have to bother with the hassel of setting it up on your own. They also have a 100% Money-Back Guarantee for your first 30 days of service. The offer for popcorntime users you can find here:
https://vpn.ht/popcorntime?_ref=get
It's only 1$ for the first month.
Here you can read more about how to check if your VPN is working.
The built in one in popcorntime is only for https://vpn.ht/ so if you are using a diffrent VPN service you can't use that to log into popcorntime. Just make sure you have you're VPN service activated before using popcorntime there is no problem, and you can't log in in settings with other than the built in VPN service.
If it's a VPN service you're talking about like "hidemyass" i would recomend the built in one in popcorntime. You can create an account here:
Then you just enter you're log in details in settings in popcorntime, activate it and you're good to go.You can see on the padlock iff it's on(green) or off(red).
Honestly if I were a parent I would be pissed if my kid was pirating without safety (ie: VPN and/or seedbox) honestly do what other people in this thread are telling you and educate your dad and tell him to buy the Von service that popcorn time recommends (sauce: ~~coming soon~~ https://vpn.ht/popcorntime ) that if his still worried about the fees and stuff
