Buddy don't use any free VPNs, most them keep logs and reveals secret identities.
Just use any of these 5 VPNs recommended by other Redditors.
I am using NordVPN and CyberGhost without any issues at all.
Something big....these people usually don't keep their mouth shuts so the fact that things have been quite for so long makes me wonder. Could their lives have been threatened in any way? This is the only thing I can think of for them to stay in the dark about the whole thing. YTS, Popcorn Time and all shut down at the same time and big brother isn't in the news bragging about the bust? Something is up, I just hope everyone is okay.
1) If you can provide us a proper API then yes, Kickass for TV shows is coming soon (Note T4P has CAM version of movies while we don't, that's on purpose)
2) T4P originally decided to take the code and make it closed source, they have no intention of working with us at all
3) We're in talks with Private Internet Access to do this, we won't use the same VPN provider as T4P as they store user info
It's fun searching through the database, I found this interesting quote:
> EXECUTIVE HIGHLIGHTS – Q1 PROGRESS TOWARD 2014 GOALS > Popcorn Time. The Content Protection team scored a major victory in shutting down key developers of “Popcorn Time,” a BitTorrent-based desktop application that allowed users to stream high quality movie and TV content. The investigative and enforcement effort required real-time, cross-border collaboration on three continents – and may have prevented Popcorn from becoming a major piracy threat before it could become popular.
It's like they think they can just shut down an open source project like that :P
Or get a paid torrent-friendly VPN that does not keep logs? That's the standard procedure, anyway. (something like PIA.
Honestly should never have been implemented. How many of us actually use it? The speeds just simply aren't good enough to justify it over another VPN like PIA?
I get that it's difficult to run PT without money, but there simply isn't a safely legal way to generate it. Even the VPN was the safest course of action.
On a side note, how the shit is the .se fork still standing considering how they are DIRECTLY profiting off of their version?
It's "". And use Google it will tell you which is the legit one so it's easier and there wasn't any domain switch also make sure you have a VPN so your internet provider doesn't know your streaming pirated it's illegal, I use Private Internet Access and get their 2 year. Hope this helped
To be safe and avoid things like this in the future you can use a VPN service.
You can always check out the one that's integrated in popcorntime for easy use.
You can find them here:
It's only 1$ the first month,then it's 4.99$ a month. Or 40$ for a hole year.
You can also go here for some tips regarding VPN services /r/vpn
You don't have to, you just need a VPN that allows torrenting/P2P. Drop TunnelBear for the main reason that they do not support P2P, and PopcornTime relies on P2P, wouldn't want to get in trouble for that. You can get NordVPN (cheap, has P2P servers), VPNArea (allows torrenting too but is a bit pricier). I've used the latter in the past but at the moment I'm using Nord, both for PopcornTime and for streaming Netflix
I would try to recommend not to use that. When I was shopping for a VPN service Private Internet Access was one of the best choices in my opinion great customer service, no logging, and good speeds. Would not recommend any built in ones
The domain seems to be transferred to another owner, just like the domain. But the nameservers are incorrect.
However, seems to be just fine. That website also hosts which contains the ip addresses of all servers.
I use PIA and I really enjoy it and recommend it. However, I haven't ever had problems without a VPN except with HBO shows. I have gotten DMCA notices from True Detective and I've heard a ton of stories about HBO shows in general getting people busted.
So, I think unless you're watching one of their products, you shouldn't need to worry too much. Is it worth paying for a VPN just for one show? If so, again, Private Internet Access is a good one. If not, then maybe you should look into private trackers.
HBO seem to take piracy especially seriously. Especially now that they are releasing their online service which gives people less of an excuse for pirating, in their eyes.
Just want to point out that popcorntime does not get the money from the built in VPN service like many are the explaination from the dev's on why this provider got selected:
"The VPN is a company, different from Popcorn Time (which is a project). They're unrelated, it just happens that the company is offering advantages to PT users, and we added it as a feature.
If you want to make a donation, buying the VPN is absolutely not the way to go, as the money will never land in Popcorn Time.
The only reason why is built in Popcorn Time is to encourage the other providers of VPN to provide their own package to Popcorn Time once we're in 0.4.0, because we've been contacted by many VPN providers looking to use our userbase but none were willing to create a client."
PT is a UI which "strings" together a bunch of APIs using different libraries. Not sure what you expect them to "share back" .
The "streamer" is peerflix (https://github.com/mafintosh/peerflix) which is a separate project, worked on and improved by other people.
Well, I have done that on my network this way - I do have NordVPN set up on my router. Firestick with pop-corn time is going through the VPN tunnel, but all my other devices are excluded with policy-based routing (requires custom router firmware). There are quite a few tutorials on the web. If this is not possible in your case - look for a VPN that supports split tunnelling to exclude all the traffic of VPN tunnel and only leave popcorn time going.
VPN isn't really confusing at all. In order to watch something for free, there always comes a price of some sort. If you put in your effort to learn something which will literally take you less than an hour to do, then you can watch it for free. You don't need to become an tech expert but why not increase your knowledge? You can't expect to get what you want with that attitude of "I don't want to learn anything new". This is about you being protected since you don't want to go to redbox and pay a $1 to watch a movie or whatever your case may be. Look up "Private Internet Access (PIA)" on Google. They are the fastest, easiest, most trusted VPN service to get into. After purchasing a subscription of your choice, you simply download their VPN program, punch in your login information, then choose a VPN server to connect to (preferably one that is closest to your location), and then that's it! You're protected by a VPN and you can continue browsing the web and watching movies securely! See? Not difficult at all.
You'd be completely safe using a VPN, provided you use a good VPN. Some qualities of a good vpn are good speeds, many servers, and NO LOGS. No logs obviously being the most important. I personally use Private Internet Access, as it has some of the best speeds, you can use something like 25 different servers across several different countries, and they do not keep any logs at all. Other VPNs like Hotspot shield or Viper may look good, but most keep some type of logs for a period of time. PIA has none, which is why i use it. It works great and I completely recommend it.
It also has a great price, at only $40 for a year of service, which is just about the cheapest you'll find. Pair that with great service and no logs, and you can see why PIA is the obvious choice.
has anyone managed to install PopCorn Time on an android smart TV? I read about the Sideload Launcher which is supposed to enable installation of third party apps but I haven't been able to test it.
You are confusing the diffrent versions .io and T4P. T4P don't use a VPN like they say .. it's a socks5 (probably hacked computers lol.) it's a huge difference, and they store your data.Several people got caught using their "VPN" service.
You can use any VPN service you like on this popcorntime, not just the built in VPN service. So you can also use a free one like this:
The built in is like 1$ the first month and then i think around 4$ a month. You can read about it here:
Using a VPN is the solution, as others have said.
Sure if you want the content of netflix, that's fine, subscribe to that service.
But netflix does not have everything i want to watch. i use as a service and it's never given me issues.
plus it is cheaper than the 7 € a month, or 600 € charge.
I don't think you are using the right Popcorntime.
is what this sub is for, and does not require you to buy a VPN. It sounds like you are using , which I've not heard good things about it. I highly suggest trying to cancel that VPN account/subscription or file for a refund.
Once you get that taken care of, I highly suggest you download and get another VPN. I use Private Internet Access, and it's really affordable.
Edit: Also, if you want more information on , I believe they have a forum somewhere.
Avoid free ones. Find a reputable paid VPN that allows torrents. They only cost a few bucks a month.. it's worth it, especially when you consider you're getting all this content for free.
I use Private Internet Access and pay yearly.. it works out to a little over $3/month. Torrentfreak runs a piece on VPN privacy, good list to get some choices from.
>could contact my school and then my school trace it back to me
Yes.
>I am worried that I could somehow get in trouble with my school
That is very likely.
>I do have a trusted VPN with them so might as well try and use it
Don't
Just get a no-logs VPN provider .. PIA, TorGuard, AirVPN. just to name a few and also check /r/vpncoupons
Another vote for Private Internet Access. I've tried about a dozen different VPNs recommended on TorrentFreak's list, and only a couple of them could keep up with my internet speed (50Mbps). PIA consistently maxxes out my connection, and it's very inexpensive.
> Is there a way to deactivate seeding?
You'd have to stop using PT & torrents in general. Anytime you're leeching/downloading you are simultaneously seeding/uploading, so it not possible to deactivate one without the other. However, PT does stop torrenting once the entire torrent is finished downloading, so at that point it does stop seeding.
That said, you should really use a paid torrent-friendly VPN that does not log. (e.g. PIA.
Let's discuss you paying for a decent VPN. Like has been mentioned here several times. All these knuckle heads chiming in from outside of the US are being completely unhelpful. If you don't want to get anymore DMCA letters, there is literally nothing you can do about it except pay for and use a VPN every time you use popcorntime. Private Internet Access is the best one. Yes, you have to pay for it, no there aren't any free VPNs, and yes you have to use it every time you watch a movie on popcorn time.
IMO the desktop version work better than the android one, so a PC.
But if you want to go for an android device, be sure PT run well on it and check those:
If I remember correctly PT don't work well with Mi Box and Shield TV.
Also as a general advice, set the device to use uncensored DNS (like google DNS or openNIC DNS), so it could bypass ISP blocking.
Your ISP is blocking PT APIs. The series tab work as expected, but the movie tab have a bug and don't display the error message.
Since your ISP is probably blocking PT api by faking DNS entries (cheapest method), I suggest to switch you DNS for Google DNS (8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4) or Cloudflare DNS (1.0.0.1, 1.1.1.1) and restart PT to see if it works.
Else, use a VPN like VPNHT or frootvpn, or any other which is good enough and which don't overprice their service to sell 2 or 3 years plans more easily with an artificially high discount.
edit: also it seem AirVPN is good with reasonnable price... check for reviews.
Do not cast without NordVPN if torrents are a sensitive matter where you live. One questions - are you using p2p servers? If yes, then read on. If not - that might be the issue - use NordVPN's p2p servers.
If you're using the servers, it seems that it runs into an issue once you start watching. Try this: go to settings, security and privacy, accessibility - uncheck popcorn time Settings > Security & Privacy > Accessibility
Hey! So I use Private Internet Access (it's cheap but really works well). I'm not sure about your other two questions, but I would assume you would just have to connect the chromecast after you've turned on your VPN.
It's important to use a VPN for safety and security reasons. By using a VPN you can watch as many movies and tv shows on popcorn time, or download anything p2p for that matter, to your heart's content without every worrying about getting an alert like you just got.
It's important to get a VPN that doesn't keep track of what you're doing (aka, a vpn that doesn't keep logs), and allows for p2p sharing.
The one I use, and in my opinion the best and cheapest one, is Private Internet Access. It's $40 a year. Worth every penny, and if you watch a bunch of stuff, it costs WAY less then what it would have cost you if you were to buy all the t.v. show seasons and movies in dvd format.
Hope I helped =)
Depends where you live honestly. It's a big risk without a VPN. I have gotten notices, for some people they never get anything more than the notices to stop torrenting. Your ISP can kick you off your internet service and revoke it or you can get a lawsuit. I don't think the risk is worth it and for $40 a year for Private Internet Access it's not a bad deal.
The UI for one and the interface is a lot easier. .se has adware, so don't use it. Look in the sidebar for . If you're in the US, use a vpn. I used to use FrootVPN when I first started, but just now, they started charging money.:/ If you close it in the task manager, sure, but why would you want to stop seeding. You can just cap your bandwith a little or something. For a first-time user in the USA, use it normally but get PrivateIntenetAccess or Torguard, some vpn that doesn't log.
As for being a first-time user, what's your setup? I wold recommend having a home server but it seems you can't afford it(Nor can I). So have it hooked up with a wired connection and you're pretty much set. Then turn on the vpn and watch whatever you want.
Just get a VPN, Private Internet Access is like $3 or $4 a month. I recently got my first DMCA notice from my ISP for torrenting after around 5 years of doing it. They shut off my internet for a day and I promised not to do it again (that's when I bought the VPN). I have Cox if that's relevant. (very happy I don't torrent porn- my mom is the one who received the emails listing what I downloaded!)
Instead of trying to make torrent streaming work on a website, you could just post the magnet links and recommend Powder Player ( http://powder.media/ ) to your users, which is a decentralized torrent streamer.
It should give you an edge (legal wise) and would also give your users the choice of how they want to use the magnet links on the site (download/stream with whatever client they prefer).
Have you tried to use other DNS? Especially if you use your ISP DNS because sometimes they are ordered to block access to some domains at this level.
You can try the OpenNIC DNS or Google DNS, they could work better.
While not exactly an alternative, Couch Potato is awesome. Choose the movie you want, the quality you want it in, and it'll download it and put it in a folder you specify.
Also, if you install the browser extension, you can browse to a movie's IMDB page and have Couch Potato download it for you immediately. Saves a lot of time searching for a download yourself!
Haven't tried with the new build yet but I see no reason why it wouldn't continue to work. Enjoy!
I don’t recommended to use TouchVPN for PT. A VPN provider should not log users activity. Besides this provider offers free VPN service, something you have to be cautious with. “When you don’t pay for the product, you are the product”.
Anyway, if you want good recommendations I would recommend you to use AirVPN or NordVPN. Just look for companies not based in the US and who doesn’t log your activity.
Edit: :-)
Yeah, it should be possible. I'm using NordVPN and like one user said enable Airplay before VPN connection. Everything works flawlessly. I think PCT doesn't find the console because of change of IP or something.
Betternet is taking a different approach to free VPN's... Free, but has premium service as an option, and you aren't the product with the free version... You can watch a video to support them. Optional ads, free VPN. I always watch a video to help them out because I've been using Betternet for 2 years now and it has never let me down...
Get a proper, torrent friendly, paid VPN
>Do you support torrents?
>Unfortunately, we cannot support the use of Bittorrent (or similar P2P file sharing protocols) on our network due to its widespread abuse in violating copyright laws.
>[...]
>IMPORTANT NOTE: If you're using our free service on Windows, only your web browsing will be routed through Spotflux. Any other applications, including torrenting applications, will use your regular connection.
free = risk for selling your data and keeping logs so thaat you can be tracked. does not keep logs or any data about you and is cheap 40 bucks a year and a free one month money back guarenty if it not suits your need,
After getting my 3rd notice for Copyright Infringement using Popcorn Time, I've finally begun using a VPN. They turned off my internet and made me watch a stupid copyright video to get internet back. about no thanks. VPN here I come.
I'm using Private Internet Access, as many people have suggested. We'll see how that goes.
>but that as of right now Butter would just be PT 0.3.8 without integration and without copyrighted content.
As of right now that's literally all it is if you DL the source and compile it. There's like 10 movies that are unable to be watched on it. No TV section, no anime section, etc.
They state on the FAQ that
> Our entire website is SSL-secured. When connected to our VPN service, we encrypt your Internet data using highly secure encryption protocols... which means your data is undecipherable to prying eyes while in transit. We do not log our customers’ activities while connected to . Our business is keeping you safe!
Of course, you're taking their word for that.
The T4P VPN doesn't block tracker traffic, so it's generally useless as a VPN option.
If you don't want to seed then don't use a torrenting application really.
Private Internet Access is a VPN I'd reccomend
The service that is being offered from T4P was a deal between the two. Supposedly the service that T4P uses as a VPN DOES keep logs of activity. It'd be better for you to invest in your own service (I use Private Internet Access). Plus that way you're not limited to only having a VPN service for your movie app.
Amazon EC2 have free plan for 12 months that give you a free t2.micro instance where you can install a Linux OS and set your own VPN server on it.
But it's a techy thing and it require to register a credit card, and I don't know if amazon will give your details if some lawyers ask it.
I used it to bypass georestriction, not for torrenting.
i specially like a program called Powder Player, which is basically a Video player and torrent client in one and off course supports Chromecast, DLNA, Apple TV and other players. Includes subtitles and has a download speed control which can come in handy for some people.
http://powder.media/
You're probably looking for a different project, PT was never designed to run through a web browser.
There are indeed websites calling themselves "popcorn"-something but they have nothing to do with the Popcorn Time project. My guess is they're using some port of peerflix to stream into a web browser, most of these projects use peerflix at some level.
https://www.stremio.com/tos Judging by their terms and conditions ..... you wouldn't touch them with a barge pole!
It appears they can collect personal data, share it with anyone they like (who can in turn give it to anyone else!) and if someone (say a prosecuting authority) were to ask for your details, they'd hand them over. And for all of that - they take no responsibility, whatsoever! .... As a bonus you'll receive ad/hijackware for free?
Zuckerberg couldn't have done a better job! :D
Give me an "honest" pirate every time ..... give me Popcorntime.sh - <strong>hoist the colours!</strong>
As /u/manufoy already suggested use programs like Handbrake which is free and open source so it's completely safe to use.
When you start Handbrake and run it you will find options to convert and save the file in a location of your choosing, so just select the file you want to convert from the cache folder and save it in a new folder or place it in the cache folder along with the original file.
install VLC player on your computer, then restart PT
Then instead of clicking the "Watch Now" button as usual, first click the right side (on icon) of the "Watch now" button, and select VLC
Then click the "watch now" button
build 1803 ?? O_o
Never mind! , the issue happen because PT for windows can't decode Xvid videos... that's why people recommend to install and play in VLC (will require to restart PT to detect VLC).
Other series works because there aren't encoded with Xvid but another format.
Prices are very good, i use them and have no complaints.
Easy set up, good guides and good speed when i'm connected.
Can easy chose between different servers in different regions/countrys and unlock content that's not available in your own region.
Edit:
For those who are concerned about any legal issues regarding the take down of PT, can read their own statement about the situation and what it means for vpn.ht customers here.
The built in VPN service has a 100% Money-Back Guarantee for your first 30 days of service. So just try and if it doesn't meet your standards just get your money back.
Here is the offer they have for popcorntime users:
https://vpn.ht/popcorntime?_ref=get
Then you just need to pay 1$ the first month.
Here you can contact the guys yourself and ask anything you want, they will answer you.
I can see that they limit the bandwith and at certain times during a day.You can try to mask/hide your torrenting/streaming with a VPN service. Here is a free one you can try:
There are many, this one is free and good. Many popcorntime user's are with this one:
They have some really nite guides too:
https://www.frootvpn.com/guides
The reason i say a "real" VPN service is that T4P fex. uses Socks which don't hide/mask you're torrenting/streaming it is just gives them the oppurtunity to deceive people who don't know what it is and make people belive they are protected by a VPN,and lot of other programs that will give you a impression of protecting you and you're data but in faqt does the opposite.
Yeah you could use a free VPN service like: https://www.frootvpn.com/
The point with in built VPN is that people can use it without the hassel of setting one up on your own.But you can use any VPN service you like,it's just not built in to popcorntime. When version 4 is released, any VPN provider can create a packet to use in popcorntime. So this feature is gonna be better as time goes by. Hope this helps. Cheers.
I couldn't find any api's that worked for me (I'm with BT in the UK) so I went with the solution of using the default endpoint url but going through a proxy site, TV Shows now works for me going through anonymouse.org and setting this as the url.
http://anonymouse.org/cgi-bin/anon-www.cgi/https://eztvapi.re/
Anonymouse is just an example I'm sure other proxy sites would work :)
Sound like your ISP is blocking the popcorntime.sh and PopcornTime API domains.
Since the most common way they usually use to block domains is by faking DNS entries, I suggest you to try to change your network settings to use google DNS (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4) or Opennic DNS (use the 2 first Ip listed on this page) and see if it fix your issue.
If you don't know how to change your dns settings, just google for it, there are plenty of how-to.
the database found in Popcorntime is Really unreliable. i recommend the following:
https://kissanime.to for online streaming.
https://nyaa.si/ for anime torrent, just download the torrent, drag-and-drop into popcorn time if you want to watch directly from popcorntime.
Copy/paste the magnet link into PT ... or download/drag/drop the torrent file.
Basically the episode is missing on EZTV.ag .... it's a bugger when that happens!
Private Internet Access (PIA) is the most beginner-user friendly and has always been great to me.
To sum it up, it hides your IP address. So you won’t get letters from Comcast, cause they don’t know your ip addr., which can obviously be tied to you.
That’s the briefest I could put it lol but I hope it makes sense.
If you're having difficulties with streaming and stuff, download qBittorrent and hit "download in sequential order". This'll make you stream the torrent in VLC.
About point 1, I cannot reproduce this. Make sure Firewall is opened for NordVPN or something.
NordVPN might be an outlier that's actually decent (even according to thatoneprivacyguy's site) but when I did my own research for the VPN I use, it was warned that any kind of "top 10 best VPNs" just general list of VPNs shouldn't be trusted because VPN companies were paying to be put on the top of those rankings regardless of whether they deserved the top spots or not.
NordVPN might be different but as a general rule now, I don't trust VPN companies that pay to be advertised.
VPN companies are still companies so of course they're trying to make money one way or the other but if a company whose selling point is to offer anonymity becomes large enough that they can afford large scale advertising then imho the company is reaching a tipping point where money might take over ethics and user privacy which isn't good at all for VPNs.
As I said, there's a chance NordVPN is an outlier, but why take the gamble when you have so many other options that are as fast and as safe ?
You're probably reminiscing about ****.... sadly, it no longer exists.
emerged out of the remnants to "carry the flag" ... you can still use the original if you choose, but it's no longer linked directly to the app.
If you want to do things the pirate way, buy a NordVPN account on eBay for a few bucks.
I personally really like Private Internet Access. They have frequent sales and promotions, and their Windows & Android apps are great.
I wouldn't continue to torrent things until you have some kind of VPN. You won't get put in jail, but you may be threatened with a lawsuit or have your Internet service shut down. (Unlikely, but it happens. A handful of people have been sued and made to pay absurdly huge fines, but that's like getting hit by lightning.)
The risks posed depend on the country you live in and your ISP. Many ISPs are owned by the same conglomerates that own media companies. Pirating content is consuming and sharing their product without paying for it. They don't like that.
~~Can you watch the movie/tv show without VPN?~~
Update: My advice is not to use this VPN provider This provider doesn’t seem to like torrenting.
The primary use of KeepSolid VPN Unlimited is not to download torrents, but to offer online security. There are limited cases when our technical team has to subside connection speeds due to torrenting. We allow legal usage of P2P file sharing on US-California 1, Canada-Ontario, Romania, Luxembourg, and France servers.
^([source]
A quick scan brought me to this as well:
• Concerning data collection practices
• Flawed kill switch leaks user data
• IP address leaks on Mac OS client
• Slow speeds (North America servers)
• Based in the United States (Five Eyes)
I've used Private Internet Access and NordVPN. Nord gets higher marks for security, but I prefer PIA's app. Nord has a few features like P2P-specific servers, Dedicated IP, Double VPN, and TOR over VPN. Decent performance with Nord, but I still liked PIA.
You could try this tip from wallydz - your circumstances are different ... but give it a go:
If the above doesn't do it - revert any changes and try the latest Mac build from: .... make it a clean install - delete the Popcorn-Time folder from ~/Library/Application Support/ (you should get the T&C's again?).
Still not working? ... Try casting without NordVPN (a minute or two shouldn't put you at too much risk)?
The NordVPN server I am using currently is US #2565. I have killswitch, Invisibility on LAN and CyberSec toggled.
I am currently downloading the exact same torrent from popcorn time on qBittorrent with 5MiB/s DL speed.
I am still on the same server-P2P enabled on NordVPN-that I tried to watch the same movie with on popcorntime.
I'm so confused right now.
I've tried every fix on this subreddit, the only one that had any effect was switching the port to 1080 on popcorntime but that only temporarily worked which makes me believe that it was a fluke.
I suppose for now I am stuck downloading my movies before watching them :(
You need to connect to p2p servers with nord and everything will be good, I had the same problem but customer support helped me. Here is a usefull guide and p2p servers
You probably already know this, but make sure your choice of NordVPN server is p2p friendly.
When this happens does PT freeze up or can you still select within the app? Do you still have active peers when it stops ..... I would expect the download to have completed by halfway - what is your download speed during the first half ( how many active peers)?
Try the latest Ci build for Windows (it has different DL settings) ... might help?
Delete the old Popcorn-Time AppData folder and any other support files.
does not have a kill switch which is probably your issue since that feature is what stops leaks from happening.
Both Nord and express have that feature so they're decent choices.
Best way to figure out what the best VPN for you would be is to use That privacy guy's VPN chart here.
But as a general rule do not use VPN services that you see recommended by websites or other services because those VPNs definitely paid to be put forward. Don't trust any "top 10 best vpns" lists either because again the lists are not objective most of the time and the number 1 almost always paid to be there.
Degree/type of security isn't (directly) related to speed.
If your goal is to hide torrent traffic from your ISP, most reputable VPN services will do fine.
PureVPN ExpressVPN IPVanish NordVPN VyprVPN Private Internet Access
Security & logs are a concern if you think that you might be a target in a criminal investigation. An ISP/movie audio can't subpoena log files just to see your daily traffic. A kill switch just keeps unencrypted traffic from getting out if your VPN connection drops. Most VPN apps have that feature.
I use PIA, as I got a great 2 year deal. Hunt for sales. There's lots of competition in the VPN market, so sales are frequent.
Explaining all the issues that affect your speed with P2P apps would take 20-30 minutes. There are loads of great tutorials on the web on IP traffic and P2P methods. In actual reality, there is no one fastest VPN. ExpressVPN used to test as the fastest, though having a super-fast VPN can't make downloads faster if a torrent only has a few slow seeders.
Just pick one within your budget. Most have trials. Try IPVanish, Express VPN, and PIA, and pick the one you like. Remember, one speed measurement isn't a test of anything, it's just one piece of data. Dozens of measurements with various torrents at various times of day would provide an idea.
> I have the latest version unless the Ci build is something else.
If you downloaded from - that's the latest release.
The Ci link is the latest build (improvements).
Unless things have changed very recently (I don't think they have) - TunnelBear has always blocked torrents/p2p. Popcorntime will not work with it!
You need a VPN and free VPNs are no good. I never heard of before, but check out torrent freak. They publish a list of their recommended VPNs every year. A good paid VPN will run you less than about $5/mo if you sign up for a whole year or about $10 or less on a month to moth basis.
Also go to r/VPN or r/torrents to find out more.
Having the same problem. Oddly enough, downloading the exact same torrent in transmission works just fine, even when downloading sequentially.
My best guess its about the listening port. NordVPN keeps port 1080 open for BitTorrent traffic, so I have transmission set up to use that port for listening. Using an open port isn't required, but makes a hell of a performance improvement.
By default it just chooses one randomly and tries to open it with upnp or nat, which don't always work with all VPNs. Desktop platforms (Windows, MacOS, and Linux) all allow you to change the port in the settings.
I also added this feature to the Android version of butter some time ago, so it should be implemented whenever the next update rolls around on Android.
The basic answer is you don't respond even if you did not do it. For example your friend came and used your computer while you were away. You don't contact anyone. You get a reliable paid vpn and use the internet to learn why it happened so it won't happen again. The moment you decide to follow your humanity because its the right thing to do, is the moment you become their target, their pray and trust me they will absolutely crush you giving the chance and will make you pay. So you do nothing and use a reliable vpn from now. Click on this link and read which vpn is the one you need. People will say PIA or NordVPN but you may choose. Just read the article first.
I use OpenVPN GUI as a front end to . If you're running Windows look at the "Support" tab of which will show you how to download and set up OpnVPN GUI.
The "Software" tab in allows you to create n+ configurations and levels of encryption files that you then move into the "config" folder of OpenVPN GUI. Hence when you bring up OpenVPN you can choose whichever configuration file better suits you.
I also run combo on my Android tablet. I created the configuration files under Windows and "moved" moved them over to my Samsung tablet. I travel a lot from the US to Europe,so I've created several configuration files for GB, Germany, France, etc. I also have files for the US so that when I access my bank and financial accounts from Europe I don't get blocked if it were to see me as a "European Hacker".
I actually have kind of a neat setup at home.
I host a small server that runs CouchPotato and SickRage behind a persistent VPN (Private Internet Access) to do my downloading. SickRage automatically downloads new episodes of TV shows as they are released, CouchPotato queues up movies to download (now or in the future) as I choose.
Everything downloads through SABnzbd for newsgroup downloads, transmission for torrents.. and all my downloads get pointed to my network storage. I have Plex running on another server that reads from the network storage, so all my downloads appear on my Plex server automatically once they're done downloading.
Using the Couch Potato app on Android, I can tell my servers to download a movie no matter where I am. I also have pushbullet notifications set up, so I get a notification on my phone every time a download finishes and is ready to watch on Plex. Which is pretty awesome actually... I was out of state last month visiting a friend (who I share my Plex server with) and we wanted to watch a movie. I opened CouchPotato on my phone, found the movie, and 20 minutes later got a ding on my phone and the movie was ready to watch, 1000 miles away from home :D
As far as other stuff.. I'm not big on mobile apps. I run android but I only have maybe 15 apps installed. And I run Linux at home so I don't know how useful my software suggestions would be :) Krita for drawing/photo editing, Aseprite for pixel art, openSCAD and Simplify3D for 3D printing (all of these are available for Windows) .. uh.. I don't know, I just formatted yesterday and I forgot the software I use lol.
So this just worked for me although it's a headache to do everytime I feel like. I think it most likely only works if you are using the VPN Private Internet Access:
Have Chromecast on and ready to connect
Turn on popcorn time with VPN disabled
Select movie/show you want to stream make sure your chrome cast is in the selection screen
on your hidden icon arrow on the bottom of your PC right click PIA and manually connect to Sweden
Then attempt to play movie. It is currently working for me. Let me know if this solves your problem. Maybe the Auto connect function was somehow throwing it off
No matter what I try, fails to resolve. It looks like it's been through the same fate as However, I think it may work for you since you may be using If so, then I was unaware of working from behind
I wouldn't recommend CyberGhost VPN, especially the free version. The CyberGhost service is full of problems, for example
It's certainly worth it to buy a premium VPN service as opposed to taking chances with some of these shady free services. There are good ones around for about $40 USD a year for their service. A good place to start when looking for a good VPN service is this:
I am personally using Private Internet Access, but the choice in VPN is really up to you. It's just really important to be sure of two things: 1. That the service doesn't keep logs; and 2. The service allows P2P connections.
Thank you for taking the time to reply and for your help, I really appreciate it!
A few other questions:
~~1) Difference between .io and .se?~~ *found the answer to this question through searching, *
2) Difference between Popcorn Time and Butter Project?
Prior to everything that happened to Popcorn Time, I found PT to be a 10/10 streaming platform. It had a vast and organized library of movies/TV shows, new movies would be uploaded to PT really fast, and every single damn movie/TV show I watched was PERFECT quality, always.
3) Is the Popcorn Time fix still like that? Is Butter Project going to be like that?
Edit: Most important question actually, whats this thing? Do I have to pay? Does it pose any risks for Mac osx users? I already have a VPN that I pay for through HideMyAss! VPN, can I use that?
Are you opening PT from behind the VPN?
might work differently - but normally PT has to be opened first before applying the VPN.(For Apple TV to show up in the "watch now" options list)
Edit: just a thought - why aren't you using the original version with the patch?
I'm not sure why, but I can watch the series, but not the movies. I'm getting the message that I can't receive an answer from the API. I'm using CyberGhost VPN, and tried Netherlands and USA, but neither showed me the movies. Anyway I can find out what a good country would be for my VPN? Or how I could fix the problem in an other way?
do not keep logs , we rent servers as most of VPN servers , Let me tell you something else , you are talking about subpoena and so far i didnt see one for copyright infringement only for serious cyber crime , Warrany canary
Pay for a VPN service if you want to use services like popcorn time. I personally recommend Private Internet Access.. it's cheap, fast and reliable. But there are plenty of others out there to pick from.
Without VPN: When you download a torrent, your IP is visible to anyone else in the swarm downloading the same torrent (including movie studios). Studios can easily contact your ISP and file a report about you. They have bots running in the swarm that do just that- collect info about who is downloading/seeding.
With VPN: You tell the VPN provider to start downloading a torrent. The VPN provider downloads and sends the data back to you (encrypted) in realtime. The VPN provider's IP is visible to the swarm, not yours. On your end, everything works the same.. the VPN is just doing the heavy lifting for you.
A good VPN provider keeps no log files. So if a movie studio's legal department contacts the owner of the IP (which would be the VPN service), the VPN would be unable to provide any information about who was downloading the torrent.
Depends on the VPN. I've tested about a dozen VPNs from TorrentFreak's list and many of them couldn't keep up with my 50/50Mbps internet.. I had some that wouldn't get past 5Mbps. Private Internet Access is the fastest I've used.. it maxes out my internet connection just about every time.
You can almost always contact a VPN provider and request a trial, most will do it even if they don't mention a trial on their site.
To my knowledge it still hasn't been confirmed that a plugin system would be implemented in Butter at any point. Their current stance (from what I read on their subreddit) is that they "may or may not keep working on a plugin system for 0.4.0" but that as of right now Butter would just be PT 0.3.8 without integration and without copyrighted content.
I think the best way around the issue is to have a drop down menu, when you go to set up the app, with a list of VPNs the user can choose from instead of offering only one choice. This way, you avoid the problem all together. Does anyone know if Wally (at ) was able to get the service back online?
I only had it for about a month so it's to early to tell but so far nothing from Comcast. Although all my warnings have been from downloading torrents using KickAssTorrent. I never got a warning when using popcorn. When I first purchased I did notice that sometimes it wouldnt log on using the built in VPN on Popcorn. Instead I just used OpenVPN GUI to log in. So I have it setup on my home theatre PC to log on automatically when Windows starts.
It is ok to use it ONLY if you are using it with a VPN. Otherwise, it's completely unsafe.I second the use of Private Internet Access, as it is cheap and is of very good quality. It has a lot of users as well, and is probably the most popular VPN service. I suggest connecting to Switzerland (This is because it's actually legal to download stuff that is copyrighted for personal use in Switzerland). From their, you can go ahead and watch as many Movies and T.V. shows as you like!
Thanks for the quick reply!
Since FrootVPN is no longer free, do you have any suggestions of good VPNs which are free?
And it looks like .io is bigger on this sub, so I think I'll stick with that, just in case I have any questions in the future.
PrivateInternetAccess is a consistant favorite across reddit. I don't use them to torrent much, it's mostly for when I'm on the road... but alot of people use it and love it.
I just wouldn't recommend them for gaming since you might be geographically far away from the server. Your download speeds will still max out your connection, but your ping might be a little higher than you might want for a FPS game.
For gaming on a VPN I recommend StrongVPN. They are twice the price (or more) but they have more locations to choose from (Instead of choosing between US East, US Central, etc. you can choose NYC, Baltimore, New Jersey, etc.).
For your uses I think PrivateInternetAccess would work great.
