Just gona throw this out there... there are good and free virus protectors out there, and lots of them. Personally i have used avast for years on my pc and all of my various devices. I've never compared it to others scanners/protectors so i cant speak to that, but thats because I've never had a reason to look else where. I've also installed many app's / programs from 'off' market sources and still no issues, although I am diligent in my own research.

Maybe do a scan with Avast? I've never seen malware on a phone myself, but they make scanners and AV for them.

Edit: Norton, McAfee, and AVG all have scanners as well if you aren't an Avast fan, or if you just want to be extra safe.
Highly unlikely. Just sounds like they're trying to spook you. If you have an Android phone, download something like Avast from the Play Store and run a scan, to be sure.
I used to use the Avast app (play store) only for this reason- I had all the other features shut off with the exception of blocking numbers (by doing so it kills the notification) and the signal flare which sends your location when your battery reaches xx% (say 2% before your battery dies- so you know where it was last).
Since you have a nexus you can get a blocker off the play store. It's a bit over kill but the avast app has call and text blacklisting and you an stop getting texts from these people. Avast me hearty
Actually if talk mobile uses Vodafone. Did you port your number when you came over? On watch dog they had this thing where Vodafone where giving people each others numbers when porting in.
No prob! https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.avast.android.mobilesecurity
That one is free and pretty reputable just incase you didn't already uninstall the bad app.
Meu primo teve um problema parecido, o Avast funcionou muito bem.
Password/PIN lock is the most secure way to lock your phone against Nsnooping. Face Unlock and Thumbprint can be forcibly done and if you resemble your N enough, they can bypass Face Unlock by themselves.
Remember, the service provider keeps a log of who you have texted/called online so the N's can see it. They don't keep the actual texts sent because that'd require a warrant to get to. They can just see who you have been texting but it's just the number so if there is a number they don't recognize, then they won't know who it is (at least, for Verizon). To get around this (and the call log as well) try using a VoIP such as Google Voice. I recommend Google Voice because it's free to call and text anyone in the US while Nextplus and of the like only offer free calling to other Nextplus members. Keep in mind that Google Voice requires Wi-Fi and/or mobile data so it cannot be used like your original texting app. But if you're constantly around Wi-Fi then no worries.
The awesome thing with Google Voice is that you get a brand new free number associated with it so it's like having a second phone. It can also double as your primary voicemail since most stock voicemails are crap.
Now to locking. There are apps you can use, or built-in phone features to lock specific apps. I have a Galaxy S4 Mini so I do not have a built-in app locker. I downloaded avast only because I use it on my computer as well. It is really stupid to have an antivirus app on your phone, but it comes with a app locker AND a call blocker, which is useful, free, and unlimited. Or you could lock your entire phone. Set it so there's a short time period after sleep where your phone will be unlocked and set it so the power button automatically locks.
If you really want to get technical, download Prey. Prey allows you to locate, wipe, lock, and alarm your phone. So let's say your N's took your phone. Open up your laptop, go onto Prey, go to your phone, and press Lock. The lock is always a password you can set. Also with Prey it comes with Camouflage which hides Prey from your app list and the only way they can find Prey is if they go in to all your apps in the settings and finds it. And when Prey is set to device admin, they won't be able to uninstall it (and they'd need your login info IIRC). Set the lock password, press confirm, and logout of Prey on your laptop. N-Proofed lock.
You have some type of app installed displaying this ad, go through your running processes and check what apps you have installed recently that would definitely seem odd, uncommon or not installed much.
There are apps you can use to scan your device as well such as Avast or Lookout. This by Lookout, Ad-Network Scanner and Detector will probably do the job as well.
Anti-Virus: Not needed, but if you insist then Avast
Anti-tracking/spyware: Samsung Browser + Enable Extensions Disconnect & Adguard
Anti-Adware: DNS66
Permission Control: You don't need app for this. Just go into settings and disable whatever you won't allow for each app.
VPN: Any paid service will do.NordVPN is among the best.
Avast can track using GPS and send the location over text. It dosen't need a data connection. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.avast.android.mobilesecurity
Yeah, I'd be concerned at this point. The link from avast's own website points to a non functioning page.
I have installed a few apk files off of that site and scanned them with VirusTotal after seeing this post & from the information gathered. It appears pretty safe.
I would be cautious when downloading files and always scan them with VirusTotal & have a trustworthy Antivirus installed on your device, like Avast

You've got some malware! Be more careful of what you install in the future.
You could try installing Avast on it, it might find the cause.
