Something I've started using recently was mind mapping software. The one I've been using is https://www.insilmaril.de/vym/ but it's really helped me map out things that I'm interested it, thinking out ideas, etc.
You can treat it as a flowchart as well, which has helped me break down thoughts/personal issues/tasks... With hyperlinking ability you can link it to other mind maps, web pages, youtube videos, reddit comments.
I've tried writing out task lists, I've used Evernote, I've done bullet journals. None of them have helped with task/thought organization. I still use journals for work, because I buy a quality notebook/pen to write with so at least it *feels* soothing when I'm writing down issues/tasks at work.
But for breaking down what I'm thinking about I've found the mind mapping has been really useful. Particularly, because if something you've added to one section applies to another one, you can link them and then, get back to your original task, with minimal loss of that working memory as you flip back/forth. Or at least for me it has been really helpful.
