Can you comment on the performance of Dropshelf? I used Yoink but it really ran like shit on my older iMac (2007).
Sounds familiar. I use Yoink as a stopgap but its not part of Lion (costs a couple of Euros in the app store).
If you drag-and-drop a lot, its worth dishing out the cash for Yoink. You can temporarily drag and drop files, text selections, and much more. Best of all, the drop-folder can be set to pop up right next to your mouse cursor whenever a drag is initiated. I've seen a lot of other similar tools (some free), but this seems the most clean and elegant one so far.
