A friend showed me Avia Weather app recently and we use it to check conditions, not sure if it's used mainly for 'real' planes but we use it anyway to check wind and general stuff.

The weather one is called Avia Weather. In general, I mainly only really use that. I might tune into an ATC freq using the LiveATC app but that's about it. If I'm flying the Zibo Mod on my desktop, I'll be using WebFMC on my browser
These both apps are very good replacement. Really recommended. You may try them out.

A tip for getting predictions of when the southerly will arrive:
We use the "TAF" report, the 12 to 24 hour weather report. These weather reports essentially supply the time at which there is a significant change in the weather. This will always include when the southerly blows through. The esoteric aviation codes which drive this data is translated for you, into plain English.
Of course, you'll need to make allowances for your latitude relative to Sydney airport.
Alternative data source (although in esoteric aviation code): http://www.bom.gov.au/aviation/forecasts/taf/ > "YSSY" (for Sydney airport).
Explanations of the code and structure of a TAF weather report are found at: http://www.bom.gov.au/aviation/data/education/taf.pdf
I use the Avia weather app
