Hi,
If you don't know BBTAN by 111% then you probably heard of Ballz by Ketchapp (came after BBTAN), then there was "Holedown" which is a premium, way better looking version of them with a little bit of strategy & RPG elements in it, i want to continue on that path but am leaning more toward puzzle solving and would love to hear your opinions.
The Gif in the main post showcases few things :
you can aim and shoot (duh..)
you can switch the blocks positions
You have a clear mission to finish (top left corner)
The current rules are :
You have a limited amount of shots (trials)
The balls will only count the blocks that belong to the first touched colors, for example: if you touch a pink block first, then touching a yellow block will only be useful for bounces, it wont effect the mission numbers at all.
The possible direction of the gameplay:
Instead of having a standard "x-amount" of shots, and having the blocks move toward the players and kill him if they reach a certain limit, am thinking of adding an HP element that is based on a "turn based" combat system, here is a quick example:
take a look at this image
the white bar at the top is the player HP.
At the start of the game, player's HP is equal "10"
the first shot cleared 2 pink blocks and the yellow blocks remained
The yellow block will now attack the player with a "-5" attack.
I think you can imagine the rest and how player can win/lose, etc..
The possible theme direction:
I think if i mixed what i said above, with a theme like this, so basically you need to fight your way through a turn based dungeon, which your main movement is based on the BBTAN mechanics, this will also opens a bunch of possibilities for upgrades and progression in both cosmetics:
new player skin
new worlds (new environment and new enemies)
and gameplay
balls with special powers
enemies with special rules, for example we have a "purple" enemy that can only be attacked if all blues are dead, or a "Green" enemies that if you bounce on a "Yellow" block right after killing it [the green], you will get a +50% HP or any sort of bonus
Questions:
What's your overall impressions ?
do you think this worth a try ? or do you think the mechanic has been overused and these rules can be applied better with a different mechanics (like a Card game)
Is this gonna be a good mobile game for the mobile audience ?
my main concern is that the game may end up too complex for the "casual" mobile audience ? even though my target audience are totally not the Ketchapp/Voodoo targets, I am not making a "score hunt", the ultimate path would be to create a "start-to-finish" premium game but am almost certain my producer will refuse that so i'll probably have to go with the freemium model and see what will happen from there, but for now my main focus is to create a fun and satisfying turn-based "adventure" game.
