You have two options for printing to a Brother printer from a chromebook. This stems from Brother's CUPS drivers being more than just a PostScript file. So unlike most other printers you'd need to change more than what ChromeOS' generic printer driver system will allow. Kinda lame but you can probably get around with with one of these:
Install the WiFi Printer Driver for Chromebook extension and add your printer using its interface. This is what I use and it works, though I find that I need to open up the extension UI before triggering a print job sometimes.
Another option is to install the Brother iPrint&Scan android app and save your desired documents/webpages as PDFs that you then print from within the app. Clunky, but it's better than nothing.
Good luck!
I have a brother printer set up to print via Ethernet on my network. That way Ethernet pcs can print and WiFi devices can print too.
I use the official app to print from my phone. If you have marshmallow you can download the brother plugin and print from any app via that. It's very convenient. Plus its a laser printer which means it's a bit more expensive but it will last and last.
I have the 2270dw model which I got for $110 at the time. This model has off brand timbers available that are only $10 and last for 2-3 months.
I've done it with my old networked Brother 5250DN printer using their app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.brother.mfc.brprint&hl=en_US&gl=US
It worked fine but I've only used that once.
But the printer is on my network with a router. The printer isn't on wifi, but maybe if it were a model that had that, it would work directly without connecting to the router.
Just tested my HL-2360DW by doing a factory reset via the printer interface directly.
Cheers,
Did you try using the Brother Android app?
[Edit]
You can also try the following Web Chrome Store App... This need to be running when you want to print.
Free apps:
Brother iPrint & Scan - it's not the fastest but if you have a Brother Printer with wireless capabilities, this works wonderfully. This is an Android app.
Painter - Simple, light weight app to draw things with. You can load a picture you've taken an add a mustache on your best friend or just start drawing.
RetroArch Emulator - has to be sideloaded but it's easy peasy and then you have a ton more games to play.
Ringed! - Such a nostalgia trip. Literally this thing on your phone but with levels that get increasingly difficult.
As for paid apps:
Work Wide - Dual screen for some applications. Probably works best for the Passport.
Talk2WatchPro - Gets your BlackBerry to work with your Pebble SmartWatch. There is a free version if you want to try it out.

We have the Brother HLL2395DW - it works great with ChromeOS, Android, and Linux (Crostini). We scan with GIMP/xsane or their Android app:

Connectivity is via Ethernet, WiFi, or USB.
The Brother Android App works fine on a chromebook.
