Have you seen the posters around campus (at least North, as I only have class there) that claim they are improving the Wifi? I know specifically the hallway between Knox and Capen has one, and I have seen others.
Anyhow, this improved Wifi requires you install an app on your iPhone, Android, computer, whatever to connect to it. The problem is I shouldn't have to install an application to connect to the wifi at all. Systems already have that covered. If it is about security, why not use certificates? Why doesn't the current system work? Enterprise WPA2 is pretty secure as it is. They are just making the wireless more difficult to use and forcing us to install crap on our devices to connect to it. Just look at the ratings for the XpressConnect app on the Play Store. Terrible. I tried it out and didn't work at all for me. Hopefully this isn't the future of the wireless internet here, because this system is bullshit. From what I can tell (I couldn't even get a connection to the "UB Connect", so I couldn't run any network tests), the only "improvement" is this bullshit "security" that makes you install that app.
Who the hell decided this? Did they even demo it before they went and spent that money on it? Holy shit it is terrible.
