i am in her 241 class now and she’s honestly the worst professor I’ve experienced at ub. i left a rating on ratemyprofessor, but its gone so she must removed it. Type her name into ratemyprofessor’s and see how much she sucks: http://www.ratemyprofessors.com/search.jsp?query=silvia+saccon she told us she used to run the math program at case university. why did she come to ub and why did ub hire her?
Easy. North Buffalo.
Sources:
Honestly, being a grad student you are probably going to be way over having the "campus experience" and living near suburban North Campus will likely bore you. Buffalo's walkable city neighborhoods are filled with young adults like you.
You don't need to know anything coming in, per say, but watching people fail 115 would suggest otherwise. It depends on the person, and what skillsets they have coming in. I aired on the side of caution and did some prep that paid off. I used this site https://www.sololearn.com to learn languages and basic concepts before I started writing any code. It helped expose me to tons of important stuff, even if it wasn't done in great quality or detail. Explore/Google things that look interesting while you have time-- any exposure helps in the learning process. Everything starts out complicated in life, even walking; 18 years later though, it doesn't seem as hard. I've yet to meet a professor who has ignored my questions, even the people who get some flack in the department are entertained by questions about their field, especially so their work. Best of luck coming in; if you care enough to ask questions early on, you care enough to succeed and be successful!
For $99 this one has a lot of storage and it’s a reputable brand. They do have external SSD’s too which are much faster but I’ve been told that SSD’s can die easier, so I’d stick to HDD’s for cold storage. I actually need to buy an external hard drive too, I’m probably going with the one I linked or something comparable.
I am in physics 108 and I bought my code from amazon
I got mine from the seller text one for 89 dollars with 3 bucks for shipping. It took about 1 week to come. I chose new. I don't know if used would work but new certainly does.
Watch shows by steaming on putlockers. If you torrent, get a good VPN, i use FrootVPN. You can also go to the starbucks in the commons on North and torrent on their wifi. UB also throttles torrents, as theyre faster over VPN than without.
Hey all, I'm a grad student constantly reading articles and writing on the computer and I use this free software that is a cross-platform computer program that adjusts a display's color temperature according to location and time of day, offering functional respite for the eyes: https://justgetflux.com/
Also, I zoom in to see things bigger so my eyes are not straining. That may be a sign my eyes are already going though haha
You know I tried to but apparently Reddit is being stupid; lemme try non hyperlink

It’s really good imo
This gets you Spotify premium with Hulu and showtime for 4.99/month after 1 month free trial. Pretty good deal. I get student price for Apple Music and nytimes as well.
Ledge Lane is about a 20 minute drive from North Campus. It's a pretty nice 25-35mph hill. https://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&q=ledge+lane+williamsville+ny&ie=UTF-8&ei=VWg5UPjCHvSB0AGYsYHAAg&ved=0CAkQ_AUoAg
If you are an active user of vaping (INCLUDING cannabis) products, I'd appreciate if you filled out my survey for MGQ201. It just asks how much you spend on vaping per month, how many hours you work per week and how many hours you study per week. Thank you!!
I'm in HIS 298 with Sasha Pack and it's not bad but not really good. The homework is book reading, there's a midterm, a final, a book review and Tophat grades and that's it. The ratemyprofessor for Pack says it all. http://www.ratemyprofessors.com/ShowRatings.jsp?tid=623619
In addition to what others suggested, try uninstalling the programs you do not use. Sometimes these huge software install a lot of services that are memory hog and run in the background right when you boot to windows and affect boot time and performace.
You may also try removing unnecessary fonts if you like to fast boot time a bit. See: http://superuser.com/questions/521001/does-installing-a-bunch-of-unnecessary-fonts-slow-computers-down
These additional suggestions may also come handy: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/optimize-windows-better-performance#optimize-windows-better-performance=windows-7
Finally you might want to add more RAM to your laptop!
I was running close to hitting the free space cap, plus I'm too broke/frugal to pay a monthly fee for more, so thanks a ton for posting this.
Edit: apparently people who sign up for the space race through a referral link rather than the main link will earn double points for their school. Here's my referral link: https://www.dropbox.com/spacerace?r=NTUxNTI3NTE5OQ. Apologies for the shameless plug - I'll gladly take it down if OP posts his referral link and asks me to do so.

If only there was a website that had ratings on professors at universities...
Shouldn't you have asked this question a few months ago? It's the second week of the semester...
Here's the down low on History courses. The amount of work doesn't necessarily depend on the level of the class, but on the professor.
Here's the down low on the History professors, the better professors, the ones who's classes you are going to be eager to go to, who make you hands sore from writing notes and your head stewing in thought, they are the ones who are going to give you the most amount of work, and they'll also be the hardest graders.
In general, History courses are going to involve a lot of reading and writing. The only course on your list I have taken was 209 with Emberton. The thing I didn't like about it is the thing I haven't liked about the other 200 level course, and is ultimately the reason why I'm taking one more at that level, and the rest of my courses will be 300 levels, as I've already taken the two required 400 level courses. It is going to feel like you are in a middle or high school classroom, where you are told exactly what to write down in class, and regurgitate on the papers and tests. I will say, Emberton did make sure you did the readings through weekly papers, though if I remember correctly, the tests only covered in class material.
In terms of your total course load, I think you will be alright. Here's the rate my professor page with all the history professors on it, along with the health science teachers if you're interested in that too
Most modern windows 10 builds come with a optional Ubuntu baked into it. Here are the instructions for setting it up
If you’re looking for a fancy terminal emulator, I recommend Cmder
I find that many first semester freshman feel this way. Our first year sequence is definitely different than what's taught in most high schools (most schools teaching procedural programming leading into object-oriented programming, our class is reversed) which is why it feels vastly different from what you've done previously.
I'll assume you've done the readings that he posts for the class. If not, read those first. Those will contain literally everything that the class teaches. If you've done that, here are online classes you could go through to try to further understand the basics of java:
https://www.mooc-list.com/course/introduction-programming-udacity https://www.mooc-list.com/course/java-complete-beginners-udemy
Finally, unless you're programming on a consistent basis, you're not going to learn programming. Once a week for 10 weeks is definitely not enough programming. Code more, google stuff, and don't be afraid to fail. Everyone is going to start somewhere and you'll learn the most by struggling through things you don't understand.
Having just gone through Orgo 1 and finishing Orgo 2, here is my advice:
Get a hold of Orgo as a Second Language
What the professor teaches and gives out notes on will be different than what you are tested on. Especially in Orgo 2.
Be prepared to teach yourself. I stopped going to lectures (Gong) and my test grades actually improved. I started following the syllabus carefully...read through and took notes from the chapters from the main textbook, then read the second language book to get some more perspective.
Practice as much as you can. You cannot memorize your way through Orgo...you must spend the time and work through as many examples as you can.
Clutchprep/Leah4Sci/etc will likely not be enough...but use the tools you feel are the most helpful. I had to spend 2 hours a day, every day practicing Orgo using youtube, flash cards and other sources to make sure I had enough ways to really understand the material. Its a commitment, but practice will pay off.
There is good advice here too : https://old.reddit.com/r/UBreddit/comments/gt6lpj/to_anyone_that_got_an_a_or_b_in_organic_chemistry/
You can use uTorrent to torrent from TPB. However, I would not torrent on the school's internet without using a VPN or Proxy to mask your IP. If you get caught torrenting, you'll get a slap on the wrist the first time and have to take a course about the evils of internet piracy yada yada. The second time you either get fined or your internet rights suspended (or both, not sure).
If you really need to torrent, I'd recommend getting yourself a VPN service. I use FrootVPN (IIRC it's $36/yr, $12/3 months, and $4/1 month), and I highly recommend it. I've found that the internet periodically blocks VPN servers, but i like FrootVPN because of the sheer amount of servers available in different countries.
You can also try finding a free VPN but be careful that they don't keep logs/arent based stateside.
Other options you have are torrenting over a proxy (no experience with that, sorry), or you can use the wifi in the starbucks in the commons to torrent, as their wifi is separate from UB's. I just wouldn't make it a habit.
EDIT: wrist, not risk
I'm giving out a custom trunk mat for 2021+ Hyundai Elantra for free that I bought from Amazon as I already have mine. PM me if you are driving 2021+ Elantra! :-)

Power strips have multiple outlets and a shutoff switch. Some are surge protected. Others aren't.
Extension cords are just cords with a single or multiple outlets at the end but no switch or "strip" of outlets.
If you need to extend power, you can get a power strip with a longer cord instead of an extension cord. For example:
https://www.amazon.com/GE-Outlet-Protector-Extension-50769/dp/B087NCMN33/
Unless UB receives a notice, nothing will happen. If UB does get a notice however, your friend will have to do a ublearns course on internet piracy, plus can’t get caught again or you’re in big trouble.
Best bet, get a VPN to torrent worry free. I personally use FrootVPN as they’re the cheapest, torrent friendly, with many different servers to choose from around the world, plus they don’t keep logs.
Secret Places of Western New York
I've used the first edition of this book for hiking around Buffalo.

I can't argue with most of that except 4 & 5.
I now know object oriented programming, interpreted languages, etc, programming in general. So the stuff covered in CS1&2 at this school.
I already knew propositional logic(as demonstrated by my proof earlier(philosophy has a similar class known as symbolic logic, but ours is at a higher more difficult level)) and intro discrete math, such as in CSE191.
I now know binary math - 241
How an OS works - 421
Data structure and algorithm usage - 250
I could easily write up any small program now, in fact i just now did here https://repl.it/repls/GrowingBlaringPackagedsoftware
Well looks like I won that argument.
Hi sarajawea, I am releasing 1B1B apartment and it is one block away to north campus. Call me for more information at 9547069932. Or check my Facebook market https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/665838654004600/

I am desperately trying to re-lease my private room and bath at sweethome (I have been since before the pandemic so now it’s even more stressful) Here is the link to the Facebook marketplace post about it. It’s on sweethome and it’s a really great room with good quiet (female) college student roommates living there now with private room and bathroom and at the complex’s lowest possible price https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/817574745404068/ anyone can private message me on Facebook about it if you’re interested or please share with someone who may be. I like the place but I just can’t stay there anymore. I’m hoping someone who needs to leave the place they are in now given the situation could be helped out by this opportunity. Good luck everyone and stay safe!

He's the best behind Rob Busch (in my opinion), but Busch isn't doing 241 this fall. I actually am taking Javor this fall for 241.
Edit: His RateMyProfessor page can be found here.
EE 202 is easier. The material is supposedly more "in-depth" but honestly you'll be better off. Dr. Furlani makes it easier; I went to class less than 10 times all semester and I made it out with a B.
Don't take EE 200, take 202. You'll have to wait until Fall '15 to take it but it's worth it. My class was like 40 students away from capacity so you'll be able to get a seat for sure. Here are his ratings from RMP
Usually when it thanks you that just means you have already taken the survey on that computer. If you are in the library, try taking the survey on your laptop/personal computer. If not, stop up at 350 SU so you can take and submit the paper copy of the survey.

Here is one I found that would be good for you, if you can afford it. I think SSD's are pretty common but I will say its a must when you're looking for a laptop. Also I'd get the warranty to be safe.
Caffeine gum! Super cheap (0.22c/piece) and each one is equivalent to one cup of coffee. I don't drink coffee and if I'm fatigued/have a long day this is a good pick me up. I like the military energy ones cuz they're cheep but they can taste bitter. Sometimes I'll only chew half if I need a slight wake up, and chew the rest another day. They're awesome
A VPN will work. I would suggest ProtonVPN. It is one of the few VPN's not owned by other big corporations that pose privacy concerns. It is based out of Switzerland. The only way to get tracked for torrents is at the ISP level (in this case UB) or at the tracker level. On the ISP level they can detect that the torrent protocol is being used if not in VPN which encrypts the stream to look like nothing to them. At the tracker level without a VPN your torrent client publicly broadcasts your public IP so that the other clients can both send and receive the data. Basically, If you use a VPN there is no way to be tracked. Just be aware that VPN's that are 'free' typically have you and your browsing habits as the product and typically don't allow torrents anyway. Avoid US based VPNs.
Chemistry TA/PhD student here - wikimpedia has some really good advice here.
Just to emphasize - you really can't memorize your way through organic chemistry. Practice problems are key, but it helps to be smart with how you choose which problems to do as well. Too often, when I taught organic chem, I saw students just practice questions that they were already familiar with. Always focus on doing questions that are challenging or difficult.

I don't remember if 201 or 202 covers spectroscopy and structure determination, but for that section in particular, you should try and find this book: https://www.amazon.com/Spectrometric-Identification-Organic-Compounds-Silverstein/dp/0470616377 (I think Lockwood has it - but you could also find a pdf online).
Never use a free VPN to torrent, it may hide your usage from UB, but free VPN's will disclose your info at the drop of a hat (so content owners can see you regardless.) Use something like Private Internet Access if your gonna torrent on public trackers.
LOL yeah I have the Mastering chemistry access code specific to the book Chemistry: The Central Science (13th Edition) . Mastering chemistry is the code that you would use to do online homework. And depending on the book that your professor requires, you will have to purchase brand new code specific to the book. I have the code for the book Chemistry: The Central Science, 13th Edition (link below), not sure what book you'll need tho.
Not sure if there's a test coming up, but just for studying, this book is a godsend and covers virtually all the content in both Chem101 and Chem102, with the exception of the final ligens chapter in 102.
Make sure you have a very solid understanding of algebra, that is the preparation you need. Every other concept you need will be taught and mostly straight forward to apply if you aren't struggling with the algebra. Even a "dummies" series type book like algebra for the clueless can be worked through in a couple of weeks. https://www.amazon.com/Bob-Millers-Algebra-Clueless/dp/0071473661. I've recommended that book to a few students struggling with calculus. After that, go to your professor or TA's office hours ANY time you struggle with homework. Most students will do very well this way. Your TA will often also be your grader, getting to know them helps.
Source: went to grad school at UB for Math and and taught or TA'd most of the calc offerings up to partial differential equations.
Hi, I'm trying to buy this textbook for MTH141, the professor said to buy Single Variable Calculus 8th UB edition.
https://www.amazon.com/Single-Variable-Calculus-Early-Transcendentals/dp/1305270339
Is this what he's talking about or should I just walk over to the bookstore and purchase the book there?
This is what he's talking about:
https://store.turningtechnologies.com/
I'd just check around...my policy is to avoid the bookstore like the Plague (even if its the same price).
I have an actual clicker, and have used it for a few other classes. Physics uses the iClicker, pretty much everyone else uses this, but there are a few classes out there that use something else entirely.
edit: The manufacturer already sells them $5 cheaper on amazon, so you'll find it somewhere else too http://www.amazon.com/Turning-Technologies-ResponseCard-Clicker-RCXR-01/dp/1934931055/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1440786422&sr=8-4&keywords=nxt+clicker
