Hey that's my app, Dactyl !
I have thought about this idea of making the fingerprint sensor customizable to a shortcut. If there was enough desire for this I could put it together.
Shameless plug for my app Dactyl that lets you use the fingerprint sensor to take photos in most camera apps!
I'm actually adding support for Snapchat soon too
Does your phone have a fingerprint sensor?
Do you take photos and video with your phone?
Do you want to use your fingerprint sensor to take photos and video?
If so, check out my new app Dactyl - Fingerprint Shutter. Dactyl allows you use use your phone's fingerprint sensor as a shutter button with your favorite camera apps!
Simply install Dactyl, allow it through accessibility settings, and you are ready to go. When you open a supported camera app, Dactyl will run in the background and detect any fingerprint sensor touches as a shutter press for the camera app.
New apps are being supported all the time, and it is all done server-side, so you never need to update Dactyl to get new apps supported. Unfortunately some apps cannot be supported because they do not implement accessibility support correctly.
Did you just get a Google Pixel?
Dactyl now supports Snapchat, Instagram, etc on devices running Nougat! New apps are being supported all the time, and it is all done server-side, so you never need to update Dactyl to get new apps supported.

Hey man, I actually developed an app that does exactly this called Dactyl.
Here is a link: [link]
There is also a free trial version if you want to give it a try first
If so, check out my app Dactyl - Fingerprint Camera. Dactyl allows you use use your phone's fingerprint sensor as a shutter button with your favorite camera apps!
Dactyl now supports Snapchat, Instagram, etc natively, and supports any camera app with the new Custom Tap App feature! Simply tell Dactyl where to tap and it will.

Cool idea but a little buggy
Nice to see devs using the fingerprint sensor in new ways. Reminds me of that fingerprint camera app dactyl
Love it on the back, hope every phone keeps it there from now on.
Also it gives you the chance to use the sensor as another button with apps like Fingerprint Gestures or Dactyl
A bit of an off recommendation, but the app Dactyl. It makes taking vertical images so much easier using the fingerprint scanner rather than hitting the volume rocker or using the on screen button.
I wrote an app that lets you use it to trigger the camera shutter in a bunch of apps called Dactyl
I don't have a pixel to test it on so let me know if you try it and it isn't working right
Has anybody here used this app? I've downloaded twice, but I get a 'Can't open file' error.
This is the second app (that I know of) that uses the fingerprint scanner for more than security functions (the other is Dactyl). I'm glad people are working on it, but making an app that would allow the scanner to launch any app on the phone would make the scanner much more useable.
The XDA thread relating to this app.
Hey, I just updated Dactyl to support Camera FV-5 ,Snapchat, Instagram and a few others (for Nougat devices)!
Go check it out if you want to try them out: [link]
It's not exactly what you're looking for, but I like the app Dactyl. It will take a picture when your camera app is open and you touch the fingerprint sensor. It works in almost every picture app too (Snap, Insta, Manual Camera, etc). Personally, I find this approach much less shaky than using the volume rocker. The only limitation is that it doesn't work when the phone is locked -- so if you double tap the power button on the lockscreen, you still need to take a picture normally. I checked and it works for portrait selfies too.
Dactyl is an awesome app that allows you to use the fingerprint reader as the shutter button to take pictures in different apps! its hugely convenient imo
If you are into taking photos or Snapchat you might want to give my app Dactyl a try. It lets you use the fingerprint sensor to take photos in almost any camera app.
There is an API for developers but it is limited right now, it only tells you if an attempt was successful or not.
My app Dactyl uses it
Hey, I just updated Dactyl to support Snapchat, Instagram, Camera FV-5 and a few others (for Nougat devices)!
No root required :)
Look at this!
Not My app, but it's kinda like what you have mentioned.
I made an app that does this called Dactyl [link]
I use this..
Check out Dactyl
This works with all sorts of apps.. Stock camera, instagram and even allo
I think Dactyl might do what you want.
This app let's you assign functions to the scanner. I like it's default use, takes a picture when camera is open.
There's even a non root solution for fingerprint shutter. [link]
Dactyl, if you are into taking selfies.
