One of my all-time favorite android games is a simple offline game. Doug Dug.

At first glance you might think you are looking at a Dig-Dug clone, or at a primitive 2D minecraft, but actually it is all about controlled cave-ins. You want to collect gems without getting crushed by collapses, you want to cave in areas strategically to gain access to gems you might not otherwise be able to reach, and cave-ins are your best weapon for both killing and avoiding monsters.
It is a great game, and I am amazed that it is still only in the 1000-5000 download range.
Looks fun. The name also reminds of Doug Dug, an excellent little game, not widely known.
Btw as an Android user... are any of these weekly recs available for Android?
I enjoyed Doug Dug (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=co.electrictoy.dig), it is an endless scrolling level that you dig through, with the goal to get as deep and collect as much gems as possible. Meanwhile you'll be dealing with enemies and with not having the cave collapse on your head through careless digging.

I know the graphics don't look like much, and at first glance you might mistake it for a lame 2D minecraft, but really it is a endless-digger cave-collapse strategy game.
Strategy is really important, and after playing for a while, I got a really good feel for the weight, hardness and shear-strength of the various stone, and devise techniques for crushing or avoiding monsters, maximizing treasure-collection combos, and eliminating or evading lava threats.
It is a pretty unique game, and I keep coming back to it, even after having it installed on my phone for more than 2 years
(For anyone else playing, my current high-score is $403,300)

Here's what my kiddo has been playing the past few months:
Doug Dug. Her #1 favorite game of all time.
Skeletomb.
The LEGO games. Pretty much all of them.
The Sago Mini games. All of them (but she calls these 'baby' games).
Teach Your Monster to Read.
The Toca Lab games. Some of the other Toca games, like Toca Blocks.
Super Fowlst.
PBS Kids games. This is a collection of very lightweight mini games themed around the PBS Kids TV programming.
Legend of the Skyfish. She's almost done with this one and is bugging me to buy the full version of OceanHorn next.
I swear it has laxative properties. Probably played it for hundreds of hours.
Doug dug is a great game to pick up and play in short bursts, and is quick to get in and out.
