If you're on Android you can use Drivebit to easily log drives/rides. It has a simple widget to start/stop and I also use Tasker to start it when I get into my car.
You have to log it as driving. Here's an app that helps with that but not necessary to have. You just need to go into the track your exercise section and log it as driving. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=mobi.littlebytes.android.fitbitdrive
I'm happy to see I'm not the only one who had this happen. Yesterday evening when I left my home I had 3 different times I tried to use DriveBit and none of them were able to post. I only just started using the app within the last week or so when i got my Charge HR, and it's kinda upsetting it already seems to have stopped working.
Although, for those saying they can't find it on the play store I'm able to pull it up here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=mobi.littlebytes.android.fitbitdrive
Edit: It seems like I'm only able to pull it up because I'm logged into my Google account and had the app installed. If I open the page in an Incognito window it gives me the "Sorry! This content is not available in your country yet." error.

It's explaining how to do it via browser, but you can do it on the app as well. I can show you a screenshot if you still can't find it. The other option would be to use DriveBit, but I have no experience with that app.
I have exactly the same thing driving my car, apparently walking up 30 flights of stairs when I'm actually sitting on my jacksey, its very frustrating.
There was a request thread on the fitbit user forums that suggested a 'drive mode' using the same functionality as when put into workout mode.
i have downloaded the DriveBit app from the app store and think i will start using this.
Edit: Link to Request Thread
I use an app called DriveBit when I'm driving or riding my motorcycle. I don't know if there is a similar iOS version but it might be worth checking out.
I think I found it. I was wrong though. It looks like it is a third party app that syncs with the fitbit web platform and has nothing to do with the device. It is probably not even really practical.
Shame, because the gift probably cost around $100 for something I have no interest in using.

Personally, I don't care if it adds some up. 300-400 steps isn't much of a difference. If you are barely hitting or are struggling to hit your goal with those added steps then you need to walk more. If you are easily hitting those goals (and it is indeed giving you about 300-400 steps) then it doesn't really matter since you would have passed your goal anyway.
With step based fitness it's about the pattern you live rather than actual number of steps. If you're lifestyle dictates you get 10k steps including your usual driving then try to go for 10.5k next month, and 11k the next so on until you are the most active version of yourself.
Another thing you can use is Drivebit android to make logging your drive time easier.
If you are using Android, this gem can help: Fitbit Drive
Activate it when you get in the car, and deactivate upon arrival.
You can always use DriveBit for when you're driving.
I connected DriveBit to Tasker and the Bluetooth in my car, so whenever the car is on, it automatically turns on DriveBit and vice versa when I turn the car off.
If you are on android you could use drivebit https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=mobi.littlebytes.android.fitbitdrive&hl=en_CA
