Get the companion app and send your scouts out to farm for you. They level up and you can farm pretty much whatever you need by tailoring what missions you send them on. I have over 200 health kits and all the supplies, king mods etc. I could need.

Seriously, it's simple and runs in the background.
FYI - disable push notifications, you were warned lol.
Hard mode probably shouldn't be played on your first playthrough. THere's some subtlety to some of the mechanics you won't understand, and there's some stuff you have to get through later on that is BRUTAL.
Think of the zeds as creep you have to avoid, not as targets, especially at the beginning. You won't really be able to kill with much efficiency until you start getting 150+ damage weapons.
You can use firecrackers to make zeds leave you alone for a bit. Don't have the crap to make firecrackers? Look more crap. If you have a mobile device, use the Companion App to get imaginary people to loot more crap for you.
Don't sprint until you have to, because the last thing you need is to get exhausted while 3 virals are chasing you across a train yard. Learn to make and use Speed Booster and Night Vision Booster. Learn the easiest spots to find herbs, toxic lichen, and flourescent shrooms (I'm not tellimg you nyaaaaaaaaaaa :P) to craft the boosters.
Molotovs. You can never have enough molotovs.
At the beginning, work on levelling your mobility, crafting, and escape options more that combat.
I haven't come to that point in The Following where I need to farm gold weapons yet, been holding myself to replay it for now. So I've no idea, though there's youtube videos about this, you can watch it.
About kings, I don't have a favorite spot really, haven't been farming these as well, used to get some of it from survivors and hard lockers from repeating Stuffed Turtle.
Though my best income of kings is this Dying Light Companion app, this requires account from Docket website that needs to be linked to your platform. You can watch youtube tutorials about this app.
Get the companion app, very helpful. Gets you med-kits, alcohol, supplies etc. Eventually the scouts in the app will get you king mods, weapons, ammo and more. You can tailor what missions you send them on, to what supplies you need the most.

And from my own reply to that same thread:

And by the way, the Dying Light fanbase is nicer and more helpful than almost any other I've ever seen. Feel free to ask questions in the Dying Light subreddit.
Enjoy, runner, it's one of the best games I've played, and I've been playing games since the 80s. Don't sleep on the DLC called The Following either; it's almost like a new game.
Good night and good luck.

Dying Light has one that lets you gain supplies and gear for your character.
