It's funny you say that, because recently I've noticed what are basically glorified and/or simplified text adventure games have been becoming a hit on mobile, stuff like this:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.threeminutegames.lifeline.google&hl=en_GB
and more recently this:
while it's not exactly the same, I'd say there's a lot of similarities, maybe you can have a crack at one of these style games and find the passion again?
Crashlands :D Great scifi game, with crafting and a funny story!
Edit: It's on Android and iOS for 4.99$ with crossplatform saving with PC aswell.
Play Store Link (ty /u/captainsparrow11) :)
Only real solution: Hound Niantic until they fix their hardware-abusing app.
The fact is that this app runs your CPU and battery excessively hard and hot, and it really doesn't need to. (I can run 3D-rendered GPS navigation apps or games while continuously streaming data and playing music in the background all day long, and it doesn't heat up my phone like PoGo does.)
Lots of us have already noticed battery capacity loss. Some of us have had their batteries killed entirely. Various other heat-related problems have been reported as well.
A few users here have said that it doesn't heat up their phone or drain their battery quickly, but that is a vanishingly small minority.
Until Niantic fixes their code, it's going to keep costing us, through greatly reduced hardware life. How much will it cost to have your battery replaced 2-3 times as often as you normally would? How about your whole phone?
So, definitely complain to Niantic.
Also consider reporting the app as abusive to hardware. For Android: Near the bottom of the Pokémon Go page in the Play Store: Flag as inappropriate: Harmful to device or data. I don't know the app reporting procedure for iOS / App Store; perhaps someone who does know can share that info in a comment.
FOR EVERYONE IN THE US SAYING IT SAYS "UNAVAILABLE IN YOUR COUNTRY" FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS:
Open this link in a web browser on a PC.
Choose your mobile device from the list (must be logged into your Google account)
Click Install.
This will install the App remotely to your mobile device, and now you can play!
EDIT: PLEASE UPVOTE THIS FOR VISABILITY! I AM TRYING TO HELP!
Android app doesn't appear to be on the Play Store yet. They take a few hours to show up. But it's on iOS!
Edit: For those who've had the app before, yes your data/pokemons will remain. It's tied to your Google/Pokemon Trainer Club account, not the app itself.
Servers seem to be down right now. Check status here.
Also visit /r/pokemongo and /r/PokemonGoCanada!
Edit: It's apparently on the Play Store now.
Edit: Servers are back on!! (5:25pm EST)
Ingress is a somewhat similar alternative if you want an activity that you can spend hours at a time on or do periodically throughout the day.

edit- 10am, still not up yet.
Don't think I've ever been this hyped for a mobile game, I hope it turns out to be great.

Installed and working on my android here near Boston. No beta anything, and just from the play store, nothing special. Good luck!

Agreed. Ratings and of course not buying this garbage or anything else is the best way to get their attention.

I've noticed that the "Updated" date will update for me in the Google Play store before the "Current Version" will update. Generally it is a few hours difference: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nianticlabs.pokemongo
Edit: it may take more than a few hours as noted in a comment below. I'm still waiting for my play store to update the current version# but have downloaded it from the app mirror.
Edit #2: The date updated when 85.1 was starting to circulate online, but this afternoon my store had the update for 85.2.
You're pushing it to the limit! :)
The play store recommends 2GB of RAM minimum:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nianticlabs.pokemongo&hl=en
And Niantic used to suggest it for iOS too, back in the day (if my memory serves me right). But I believe they're actually not allowed to say that, as they claim the app is supported down to the iPhone 5+, which only had 1gb RAM (if memory serves me right twice).
When I went to the store on my phone it was still saying "Not Available in your Country" then I went to the Google Play Store page for Pokemon Go and was able to start installation from there!
LETSA GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO HYPE
Damn.. This sounds pretty cool! Im gonna see if it in the play store.
Edit: it's not there (yet?) So don't bother looking it up just yet I suppose (im on android tho).
Guys! It's here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nianticlabs.pokemongo

here's hoping google doesn't delete all the reviews.
I did experience adult treatment when I went to a civilian run equipment fielding course at Gordon. It was refreshing. You mean I can have a beer at dinner? Go wherever I want? And I won't get a DUI or abducted?
You still geocache? I've had to explain ingress to an MP once or twice. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nianticproject.ingress
I think Crashlands covers the 2d sandbox construction part but not the managing. I never got into the game but seems like something you would like.
I'm trying to play the android port of Cataclysm but the damn game is hard to learn, its a 2d roguelike that has a ton of features.
Have you checked out Lifeline yet? The downside is that it's a little short and time based but otherwise a good game.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.threeminutegames.lifeline.google
This app is alarmingly hard on both short-term and long-term battery life. A power bank is a technical workaround for one of those, but it's not truly a fix.
The underlying problem is not a technical one, but rather a policy / decision-making issue at Niantic. If they wanted to fix the battery abuse, they most certainly could. (Comparison: I can run 3D-rendered GPS navigation apps or games while continuously streaming data and playing music in the background all day long, and it doesn't heat up my phone like PoGo does.)
This issue has been repeatedly raised here for almost a year, and Niantic has been unresponsive. That leaves two obvious options:
Report the app to the distributor. Google Play has a link specifically for this sort of thing at the bottom of their Pokémon Go page: Flag as inappropriate: Harmful to device or data. Apple's App Store may have a similar mechanism for reporting abusive apps. If enough people do this, Niantic might get a warning from Google or Apple, which (since those are their primary sales channels) would be harder for them to ignore than it is for them to ignore us.
Keep reporting the problem to Niantic. They obviously know about it by now, but they have been ignoring complaints about it for nearly a year. Don't let them think you don't care.
If your battery is showing signs of premature capacity loss (or if you have already had to replace it), be sure to include that information in both reports.
I have a portion of my terminal open, dedicate to watching the Google Play Store Pokemon GO version. If you're running linux (or maybe OSX?), you can run this. As soon as it changes to 0.37.0 I'm clear to snag the update :-)
curl -s https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nianticlabs.pokemongo | grep -o '0.3[0-9].0'
I'm beginning to wonder if Niantic or Google messed something up.
Checking the play store via my andriod phone I see version 0.35.0 and last update of August 22nd, 2016.
Checking the play store via my desktop web browser I see version still at 0.35.0, but the update date shifted to September 10th.
I hope whomever uploaded the new version to the play store didn't fumble finger the version number and leave it the same.

I'm using a USB mouse connected to a cheap USB OTG adapter and ScummVM downloaded from the play store. You can get the roms online.
I've tested the following games:
And they all work great.
EDIT: This is a 1st gen Moto G
When viewing the listing from a desktop PC in the browser it shows you at the button the newest date when an updated Apk has been pushed, but it wont show the latest Staged rollout version unless your account has been flagged for it.
It just updated a little bit ago from September 17th to the 27th.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nianticlabs.pokemongo
You probably dont have 2gb ram. That was the sole reason I couldn't download it on my Galaxy Note 2. Although apkmirror worked and after installing it all was fine. Or check this page on why you cant install it. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nianticlabs.pokemongo&hl=en
~~Just to add to the topic, users logging in with Google credentials on an Android system need NOT worry, as it does NOT even show up in "Connected sites and Apps" in your Google Account. Instead, the app is put in check by the permissions it asks from you, and they do not require full access~~. Even if you're an Android user, check your Google Account page at https://myaccount.google.com - I use a Moto X and the app does not show anywhere in that page, but people reported otherwise for other phones. You can check the permissions yourself in Pokemon GO's Google Play page: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nianticlabs.pokemongo
EDIT: from the comment below, I see that this is not always the case.
check out Crashlands! this is precisely why prefer to buy my games and Crashlands is just phenomenal. as a sidenote, check out the story of how it got made in this Polygon article. I'm copy/pasting this from the first comment I replied to
Ingress - a augmented reality game of real life capture the flag is definitely life changing, in at least three different ways:
It's a completely different kind of game, you actually have to get up and go outside and walk around. From the perspective of a 'gamer' this is a great change, it means I get exercise and fresh air and get to go out and be social, all while 'gaming'. It also means that people that would be turned off by most gaming can get in to it.
It's social. I've made lots of great friends, I've networked when I was job hunting, I know people who have started dating because they met in game. It's an excuse to travel to new places and meet new people and to explore neighborhoods in my city that I would've never gone to otherwise. I don't even play that much anymore, but I'll still hangout with people I met in the game years ago.
It's the first really succesful augmented reality game. It doesn't work by making a graphic overlay or anything like that, it's basically just a map on your phone that shows another 'layer' on top of the real world. But it makes me think about the world differently. After playing for a couple years I have a much better idea of things like how far away places are, how long it takes to walk/run/bike/drive to different places. How busy places are at different times of the day. I've also built up a huge collection of memories of different places in the city, good memories of hanging out with friends or exciting encounters or being cold and wet and popping in to a nice little cafe that turned out to be amazing. In addition to the real world, there's the ingress world and then there's this whole other layer connecting the two, it really has augmented reality.
I had the page opened and was killing my F5 key (okay, I had a script refreshing the page). And just as I was about to go to bed, I got my "finally available notification". Now I can finally use all the tips I learned /o/
Crashlands. It's a full fledged crafting game with a quirky storyline that you can pause/save at most any point. No IAPs or ads. Its highly recommended around here.

So Pokemon Go is out for Android and it's <em>not</em> available in our country (*un*surprisingly)
I wonder if people will actually play it here.
*edit: changed from available to not available I'm not super interested in it since I'm lazy. I'll probably play Pokemon S&M instead since it sounds more interesting. *wink

Limbo is a very well done puzzle platformer. Beautiful black and white artwork, and some of the best deaths you'll see in a video game.
Pokemon Go was itself based on an (unbranded) augmented reality game, Ingress. The developers haven't figured out how to keep players past a few months, with this game genre in general.
Limbo. This game is beautiful. Simple controls, good graphics and an interesting story. Definitely check it out.
Shattered PD, Bouncy hoops, ENYO to pass the time.

Sorry to hear that Dr. of course though, everyone is entitled to their own opinions. If you are looking for an awesome mobile game, Limbo just came out on Android. I played that years back on PC and it was absolutely fabulous. Have a good day! :)

Don't Starve: Pocket Edition is for 2,99$. I'm thinking of it coz I've enjoyed Crashlands. Is it similar ?
Andriod in Arizona here,
Anyone know why it says updated Sept.10 here https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nianticlabs.pokemongo&hl=en but the current version is still 0.35
and then if I check the "app" version of the store it says last update was Aug.22?
According to my Android version of the app I'm on 0.29 which seems to match what's on the Android store at the moment.
EDIT: Woke up this morning to find that the store has 0.29.2 in. Hopefully this has stability improvements. Now if you excuse me, my phone apparently doesn't have enough storage to download this update, because apparently phones ignore SD cards entirely.
When I went to the store on my phone it was still saying "Not Available in your Country" then I went to the Google Play Store page for Pokemon Go and was able to start installation from there!
> This app is incompatible with your device.
Really?

Come on, it's an LG G3, more than capable..
ALL of the Pokestops and Gyms in Pokemon GO are Ingress portals. Ingress has been out for a few years. I started playing it after GO came out and enjoy it much more.
It's good, my wife likes that.
I've just installed ingress (walk around the city, capture/attack things) and it's been encouraging me to go out and take longer walks which is handy because I work from home so it's easy to go a whole day and never leave the house. Since the locations you have to go to are landmarks / important / interesting places, I've already discovered a few new things in the city I've lived in for the past 7 years. (edit - just checked the figures, in the last few days I've done an extra 10 miles just for ingress so it's giving me a little push at least :) )
edit - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nianticproject.ingress
ScummVM. Full disclosure, depending on where you live and whether you own the original games etc, there may be copyright issues.
You could try Don't starve, Crashlands is basically a imitation of Don't starve with some difference in mechanics. It's a broad indie survival game with a nice theme and permadeath. Makes for an easy tens of hours of gaming.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kleientertainment.doNotStarvePocket
Wayward Souls is pretty nice and not just a button mashing game. I play it with a controller but I dont think the touch controls are too difficult to get the hang of.
Multiple classes and similar to a souls like game
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.noodlecake.waywardsouls
Crashlands is a great game that compares to CatQuest's combat system. It has alot of RPG elements and crafting. The crafting is simple though, and you do not have to worry about inventory space. Just go out and kill, kill kill, loot loot loot. There are quests to follow, and the dialog is quite funny as well.
Don't starve. Comecei ontem depois de ver uma promoção na google play e gostei tanto que comprei pro vita.
I don't know why you were downvoted; minimum RAM has always been 2 GB. Look on the Google Play listing :
"Compatible with Android devices that have 2GB RAM or more and have Android Version 4.4 - 6.0 installed."
I previously played it on a device with 1 GB of RAM myself. It technically works, but not well.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nianticlabs.pokemongo
For those at work....
WHAT'S NEW
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nianticlabs.pokemongo That allowed me to dl it on to my galaxy note 5 remotely idk if it works for anyone else. So far nothing wrong with it. I mean ive moved like 40 feet and found a sparrow and went back inside. I cant find any poke shops or gyms around my neighbor hood yet ill check more tomorrow
It's on sale currently, so i decided to try it out. It's a bit different than most games i play on my phone and i really enjoy it
No no, unfortunately, that's not what's going to happen. It's just a GPS-based game. The same company (Niantic) made Ingress - this is the trailer for Ingress, and here is the real game (see screenshots). Notice how the trailer is similar with CGI and everything. So Pokemon Go will probably be similar (and you can see a little bit of the app's animations right at the end of the trailer for Pokemon Go).
It'll probably be really similar to Ingress (Niantic's other big location-based game). GPS-based. Go to locations to get items and stuff. Meet up with friends and do things at the same time for better stuff. Occasionally have a giant meet up for big events.
The big question for me is how Ingress is split into two opposing factions, which (I really really hope) shouldn't be the case here. In Ingress you battle over control of locations - that would be a terrible idea in this case. Hopefully they can make the translation to those individual / PvE / Co-op focuses.
I remember my friend sed to use a location spoofer for Ingress and they found out and banned his account. Might be easily detectable, but it might also give a higher chance for drops if you are using several accounts.
LIMBO is fantastic, although I have yet to beat it. A little pricey, but the mood is perfect and it's a blast to play. Here's a demo if you want to play a bit before spending the $5 for the full game.
Just an FYI - Non-APK Mirror links are generally frowned upon here.
Also, this is a separate application from the Google Play version of Pokemon Go for anyone looking to install this.
All that said - the Google Play Store shows an update is rolling out because it has today's date. Go here and look at additional information.
No, Apple requires apps released in their app store to at least be version 1.0. Currently, the iOS version in the store is listed as 1.49.4 but if you check the settings in the actual app it is 0.79.4. Google is more tolerant of version settings, as the Play Store actually list PoGo as 0.79.4
Edit: For proof check the Play Store and iOS App Store
Can anyone suggest one that will keep my walks fun and make me eager to go out to walk?
So far I have tried:
-Was fun for couple weeks. However it has too much staring of screen waiting to see Pokemon, too much stopping to throw balls and too long stops to fight at gyms. I am looking for game where I walk more and stare screen less than in Pokemon Go.
-Too much staring on screen and too much finding exact best location with GPS. Also too much to do at home when not walking. Was fun for week but more as and regular game than one making me want to go walk 10 km.
Ingress has been decent. It is more about walking to specific destination, checking screen there and short stop. However after about year of playing I know all local portals way too well and gameplay is getting boring and there is almost zero progress at this point.
Any suggestions for games that make me want to go to walk?
The current "visible" outcry so far is in a bunch of 1 star ratings:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nianticlabs.pokemongo&hl=en
I remember checking the play store a few days ago before the update was officially out because someone told me it was out, and while I don't remember the number of 1 star reviews I remember the red 1 star bar being a bit over half of how big it is right now. I suspect that bar will get a tiny bit bigger once it is released to everyone, though I wonder if the outcry will be as big as when tracking was 100% dropped.
Can't download on Android N?? at least that's what a review says. Sigh... - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nianticlabs.pokemongo&reviewId=Z3A6QU9xcFRPR0ZJVFlGNFpyWlhiZ3BraVhsWlVQU01GLXY0OGt4THNXUlN5QzUtMDhvY2tyU0NTODc4OElRajVXdVYwMFBqWWJtOXVxYlo2c0dHQXlaTG1z
On the Japanese play store, in the description, it says "日本版は近日公開!もう少しだけお待ちください!", which translates to, "The Japanese Version will be released soon! Please just wait a little bit more!". So by the sounds of that probably a release date of tomorrow or sunday would be most accurate. Source, https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nianticlabs.pokemongo&hl=ja
Not sure if this has been mentioned but the link to Android is actually not right. The current one is: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nianticlabs.pokemongo%20iOS

...It's openworld (3 different biomes) very good 2D, upbeat humorous scifi rpg survival hybrid with a lot of content and has many conveniences (map teleports, infinite & organized inventory, convenienced resource farming & crafting, respawn if die, excellent save function, etc).. Very unique alien planet too. Great bang for $4.99. Highly rated. Single player. Can cross platform save and cloudsave.
If you're possessed, you might want to consult with a religious professional. There's an app that will show you where your local churches are.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nianticproject.ingress
Be careful when installing this app as the developers give you the option to install useless and what some would consider malware by selecting the "Enlightened" mode. This mode slows down your phone and can result in the user experiencing delusions, poor decision making and diarrhea.
Not out yet but Night Terrors looks interesting (although I am genuinely worried I wont be able to live in my flat after playing it...).
Also obligatory Ingress mention.
ScummVM will run it. Since Fate of Atlantis is a copyrighted work, I won't link to any downloads for it. If only there was some kind of internet search thing you could use to find it.
Wayward Souls, one of the best. A slick, charming hack and slash with great control implementation.

You should check out Don't Starve It's survival crafting game, where you explore a world that you've been thrown into
I've went back to Crashlands. It's probably been a year or longer since I got burned out on it before. Not much has changed, but that's a good thing. Very polished and creative.
I have completed a few, but this is one of my favourites.
You should give this a try. Pretty good game with solid gameplay.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.touchfoo.swordigo
Very few in-app purchases (unobtrusive). Not needed to progress. I finished the game without purchasing a single thing.
It didn't have ads when I played. It has them now, but iirc they only play when you die.
Edit : a word.
This looks like it'll wind up being a pay-to-win game.
You should look into Pokemon Go as an alternative. It works perfectly well as a free-to-play game. (There's a bit of pressure to invest $10-$20/month on extra raid passes, but this is strictly optional and there's no real need to spend much more than that.)
All the games I liked had really good music.
Think of Undertale - it wouldn't have been a blast if it weren't for the Waterfall theme in Undertale.
But that's a PC game. Apparently on mobile games, you need some shock factor and be a meme.
The game I'm playing now (Mobius Final Fantasy), the big catch was that there is a single player story line, high production value, and I can play with friends in a team where teamwork actually matters, instead of just being an inane tapfest (I'm looking at you, pokemon go)
Saturday at 2 PM in Bobcat.
I love zany panels, but some have topics that are too generic and either they don't lead to interesting conversations or it wanders off topic. Went to a romance panel last year and they spent a lot of time talking about My Horse Prince. it was certainly entertaining but not what I expected. The NES panel sounds like it's the right scope to match my expectations.
out already, always goes full on android at the same time as iOS.
The partial rollout on Android dribbles out for several days but when you hear iOS it's time to go to https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nianticlabs.pokemongo or open the play store on your phone.
You can try that before you hear about iOS but it isn't guaranteed until that day.
I have Wayward Souls and I have to say that I probably enjoy it more than BoI. If you're looking for a similar high-quality rogue with high replayability, give that a shot.
Tried to install it, said something about not having gone to the google play app or w/e, went to it, searched for "chef of the wild", found this https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jp.usaya.prince.en
Hi redditors of r/Serendipity ! I apologize if this is against the spirit of your sub, but your bot said this was here!
If you're not familiar with Ingress it's best known as the precursor to Pokemon Go -- we actually submitted most of the location data for the original pokestops and gyms.
While similar in layout, it's a much more social game that relies on team play and has evolved to include strong local communities of players and massive con-like events over its five years.
This is the link for the game on the Play Store, taken from an AndroidPolice article, and it doesn't seem to work either.

This was it looked like for past few months. When you click on it you will be asked to sign in and tell ' This app is incompatible with all of your devices.'
That is the whole story. Geo block go off about 30 mins before release. And Niantic release the App in Friday or Saturday morning due commercial purpose (who can go out and play in a night).
I am very much happy if I am wrong. But seems to be it is not.
So I've been loosely keeping track of one-star reviews on the Google Play store since the update came out. Wish I had taken screenshots for proof, it's more just me remembering the numbers.
When I checked shortly after the update hit, one-star reviews were at around 770,000. Right now it's at 824,418. That's 54,418 one-star reviews since then.
.
Now, it's a false comparison to say this is in direct response to the update or that every single one of them is because of banning root. It's anecdotal evidence, but looking through reviews I can say a lot of them do mention blocking root as their criticism.
Also, it's not like I've been keeping track before the update, so I don't know if this is a significant trend or not.
That said, we can be certain that many people are affected by this and are pissed off about it. I just don't know if that criticism will ever get to Niantic or if it even matters
You may try Lifeline. It is a pretty good game with a story and just tapping is enough. You become attached to the main character and it does not need constant checking of phone.

Edit: I know it's not free but it's good.
