Ingress is a somewhat similar alternative if you want an activity that you can spend hours at a time on or do periodically throughout the day.

I did experience adult treatment when I went to a civilian run equipment fielding course at Gordon. It was refreshing. You mean I can have a beer at dinner? Go wherever I want? And I won't get a DUI or abducted?
You still geocache? I've had to explain ingress to an MP once or twice. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nianticproject.ingress
You can copy paste from https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nianticproject.ingress&hl=en

Ingress - a augmented reality game of real life capture the flag is definitely life changing, in at least three different ways:
It's a completely different kind of game, you actually have to get up and go outside and walk around. From the perspective of a 'gamer' this is a great change, it means I get exercise and fresh air and get to go out and be social, all while 'gaming'. It also means that people that would be turned off by most gaming can get in to it.
It's social. I've made lots of great friends, I've networked when I was job hunting, I know people who have started dating because they met in game. It's an excuse to travel to new places and meet new people and to explore neighborhoods in my city that I would've never gone to otherwise. I don't even play that much anymore, but I'll still hangout with people I met in the game years ago.
It's the first really succesful augmented reality game. It doesn't work by making a graphic overlay or anything like that, it's basically just a map on your phone that shows another 'layer' on top of the real world. But it makes me think about the world differently. After playing for a couple years I have a much better idea of things like how far away places are, how long it takes to walk/run/bike/drive to different places. How busy places are at different times of the day. I've also built up a huge collection of memories of different places in the city, good memories of hanging out with friends or exciting encounters or being cold and wet and popping in to a nice little cafe that turned out to be amazing. In addition to the real world, there's the ingress world and then there's this whole other layer connecting the two, it really has augmented reality.
Pokemon Go was itself based on an (unbranded) augmented reality game, Ingress. The developers haven't figured out how to keep players past a few months, with this game genre in general.
ALL of the Pokestops and Gyms in Pokemon GO are Ingress portals. Ingress has been out for a few years. I started playing it after GO came out and enjoy it much more.
It's good, my wife likes that.
I've just installed ingress (walk around the city, capture/attack things) and it's been encouraging me to go out and take longer walks which is handy because I work from home so it's easy to go a whole day and never leave the house. Since the locations you have to go to are landmarks / important / interesting places, I've already discovered a few new things in the city I've lived in for the past 7 years. (edit - just checked the figures, in the last few days I've done an extra 10 miles just for ingress so it's giving me a little push at least :) )
edit - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nianticproject.ingress
No no, unfortunately, that's not what's going to happen. It's just a GPS-based game. The same company (Niantic) made Ingress - this is the trailer for Ingress, and here is the real game (see screenshots). Notice how the trailer is similar with CGI and everything. So Pokemon Go will probably be similar (and you can see a little bit of the app's animations right at the end of the trailer for Pokemon Go).
It'll probably be really similar to Ingress (Niantic's other big location-based game). GPS-based. Go to locations to get items and stuff. Meet up with friends and do things at the same time for better stuff. Occasionally have a giant meet up for big events.
The big question for me is how Ingress is split into two opposing factions, which (I really really hope) shouldn't be the case here. In Ingress you battle over control of locations - that would be a terrible idea in this case. Hopefully they can make the translation to those individual / PvE / Co-op focuses.
I remember my friend sed to use a location spoofer for Ingress and they found out and banned his account. Might be easily detectable, but it might also give a higher chance for drops if you are using several accounts.
If you're possessed, you might want to consult with a religious professional. There's an app that will show you where your local churches are.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nianticproject.ingress
Be careful when installing this app as the developers give you the option to install useless and what some would consider malware by selecting the "Enlightened" mode. This mode slows down your phone and can result in the user experiencing delusions, poor decision making and diarrhea.
Not out yet but Night Terrors looks interesting (although I am genuinely worried I wont be able to live in my flat after playing it...).
Also obligatory Ingress mention.
Hi redditors of r/Serendipity ! I apologize if this is against the spirit of your sub, but your bot said this was here!
If you're not familiar with Ingress it's best known as the precursor to Pokemon Go -- we actually submitted most of the location data for the original pokestops and gyms.
While similar in layout, it's a much more social game that relies on team play and has evolved to include strong local communities of players and massive con-like events over its five years.
It's mechanically quite similar to Niantic's earlier game, Ingress but with Pokémon. I doubt it's going to get and stay popular enough to really notice people playing.
I'm not much of a gamer, but have really been enjoying Ingress recently. It is a pretty fun augmented reality game that was originally developed by Google a few years ago. Sort of a mix between geocaching and capture the flag. Since downloading the game a little over a month ago, I've logged 225 km (including several 15k-20k+ steps/day on my Fitbit), and gotten out of the house a lot more than usual (I like having an 'excuse' to go visit places that I haven't been before).
I love how when viewed on PC the site says INCORRECT PLATFORM, kinda hinting to trying viewing the site by other means.
I'm curious if they brought us to mobile to have us do some kind of mobile game similar to Ingress or maybe just some application with more clues.
Are you more in north or south scottsdale? There's a pretty healthy Ingress community in north scottsdale that could be a good way to explore the area. I can speak for the green side anyway. There's probably some decent blue players out there as well.
Kuo mažesnė žmonių populiacija teritorijoje, tuo mažiau visko rasi. Taip pat dalis pokestops ar netgi visos priklausė nuo Ingress žaidėjų.
It's actually because Niantic's other game, Ingress, has the feature where users submit real-world locations as "portals". Niantic likely took those location data and just copied it over on GO.
Yeah, there is something else. It's kind of a VR thing and I haven't used it at all, but a lot of people rave about it. Unfortunately, I forgot the name :(. I'll comment back if I do find it! EDIT: Found it. It's called Ingress
I thought only serious replies were allowed.
I play a little game called Ingress and it's filled with Google/Android fanboys (the developer was owned by Google for a while) and so HOs is used by most of the community.
I hate it, there are literally dozens of messenger apps that are better, less buggy, and with UI that was actually thought about for longer than 2 seconds.
Wow very cool, I enjoy that app too! I have heard nice things about Ingress which is another app I've been meaning to try, sounds kinda too good to be true though! :)
I definitely have a goal to run a marathon before 30. I was up to running 12 miles at a time 3-4 times a week in training for a half-marathon in Edinburgh, Scotland. And wouldn't you believe it, they cancelled it! :o Guess there wasn't enough enrollment. I was so sad. Kinda slacked off on the running. Can do 3-4 miles on a good week now but being sick I've taken the last two weeks off. Arg it's hard to get back up and go!
Ingress is one of my favorite games ever because you actually have to get up and move around to play it
Maybe Ingress Prime ? It encourages you to walk around your neighborhood or town and capture pretend futuristic power plants. It's a augmented reality game - somewhat like Pokemon Go.
FYI I did get a notice that I have to install ingress.
>Please sign in with your player account to continue. You are currently signed in as ***, but this account is not activated to access Ingress. Get Ingress on Google Play
I started playing Ingress. Itś a mobile GPS game where you have to walk around your local area to various landmarks to gain territory, vaguley based on geocaching. Totally cool to play on your own, but the more active you are the more likley it is you will meet other players.
When i started I didnt know anyone, and slowly i have made contact with a few active players in my area. It also made my number of steps per day go through the roof.
I am, but I get the message
>Welcome to Ingress.
>Please sign in with your player account to continue. >You are currently signed in as [my registered email address]@gmail.com, but this account is not activated to access Ingress. >Get Ingress on Google Play.
I've never heard of that error.
You don't have to download the apk manually, btw. Just install it through the play store:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nianticproject.ingress
Found an Android game that is similiar to your idea: Ingress .... hacking places.... and that stuff.... maybe you should take this idea to get your Skid.Inc into that.... ;)
> The game is out, or are you in beta?
You can always play /r/Ingress during your wait. PokeGo is based on Ingress and released by the same company (Niantic). You can play it worldwide even Bumfuck, Ohio. It works inside and outside and there are hundred thousands of players.
Edit: Here it is in the play store and here in the app store.
18/M/Student
2 power banks, one for phone and one for pocket wifi (necessary when you're playing Ingress, Phone and pocket wifi Handkerchief, Pilot G2 0.5 black pen, and when in school, a Pilot Rexgrip 0.5 mechanical pencil, Wallet, Coin Purse.
If with bag, baunang tubig, umbrella.
Did you have to go down to that McDonald's down the street to do the dungeon? If that real world part was fun for you, you may like Ingress.
I don't play it, but my wife likes going to places and taking control of things with the game. Last month she went to an event and teamed up with other people on her side of the game for this big battle thing. Not what I'm into, but she enjoys it.
Ingress! A free, no ads, GPS based moving game. Strategy or action, it's a little of both, depending on your style.
Google Play
Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ingress_(video_game)
I played it when it was very new.
I think "what it's about" is not the same as what the rules are. It's a team game to play with/against other people, and that's nice. It's also an excuse to get out in the world and find places in your city you've never seen before, and that's nice too.
There's a kind of mythology about a struggle that underlies the game, but it's not really important to playing.
It's really a game of geometry. Two teams compete to enclose the most space by making triangles. To make an edge of a triangle, you must have had someone stand at a landmark after having visited another landmark. Do that for three corners of a triangle and you get credit for the area inside. But, if someone makes a line across where you want to make a line, or the other team tears down a line (by taking over a landmark), before you can make a triangle, you get no points. Larger triangles get the most points, but that means it takes longer to travel between the vertices and that's time the Other Team could steal it out from under you.
So, you can play it on your own, but you can accomplish a lot more by joining up with others on your team.

Not sure if you're joking or not, but in any case, here is Ingress, a geolocation based mobile game made by Niantic, the same developers making Pokemon Go, thus quite possibly a slight indication of what we will be getting (in theory at least)
I would suggest playing a game called Ingress. In my quest to discover portals I have come across a ton of neat places and hidden public artwork. If you wander around aimlessly, this is a game that crowdsources neat places to check out on your wandering.
Not really an answer to your question, but if you like running around town with your face in your phone, check out Ingress. Haven't played it in a while, but it was a kinda fun way to burn some time on my commute back when I rode the bus.
Have you ever heard of Ingress? There are a few of us players in and around Athens. It is a mix of capture the flag and geo caching. It is fun for team or solo play.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nianticproject.ingress
There is an iOS version too.
ELI5: Install the Ingress app on your device (Android | iPhone). Enable GPS and turn a short 5 min trip to the store into a 5 hour portal adventure in your local area.
Two teams compete for control over certain localities known ingame as portals. These can be real works of art, significant historical sites or other man made items which have been added to the game by the players ALL OVER THE WORLD.
To have control over an area you have to interact with the portals by being within 40 meters of them, so you have to move around a lot. By visiting several localities you can connect them by linking, and create fields to earn points for your team.
It can be quite ~~a~~ social ~~game~~, and often you can spot a fellow ingresser quite easilly in the field.
TL;DR "Ingress: The Game That Forces You To Leave Your House"
Παίζει κανείς Ingress; Προσφάτως το ανακάλυψα και δείχνει ενδιαφέρον.
This is going to sound strange, but go play Ingress. It's a free GPS location game for Android and iOS that requires you to go to real locations in order to play. How can this help you in your situation? Surprisingly in many ways it sounds....
Just a word of warning, while there's really great friendly players.....a few of them can be dicks and take the game too seriously. Since there's two teams, there's sometimes animosity between teams. Sometimes a few people can take what you do in the game too seriously. As a new player though, I think most people will treat you well and be welcoming even from the other team.
Oh yeah, join Resistance (Blue Team). The other team Enlightened (Green Team) always seemed dogmatic and un-sciency to me....although I guess they're alright too. =P
Munzee, Ingress, or Geocaching.
Their all kinda silly for adults, but if you don't take them too seriously they can be fun. And they'll get you outta the house.
Well the Google Play store has it listed as Ingress Prime
If you like Pokemon Go, try Ingress:
r/outside, also this game
Here's a link to Ingress:

Ingress. Bright elements on a black background. That means no good for AMOLED displays.
It's not Ingress, is it?
Install Ingress, select Enlightened (Green) and start capturing portals.
It's not social work, but it gets you out of the house and helps you find interesting things in your neighbourhood.

Ingress is one you can try it's a game where you have to go to locations
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nianticproject.ingress
> Android 4.0 ICS.
I don't believe this was the minimum. Going through the Wayback Machine's snapshots of the old support.google.com/ingress page, I found a snapshot taken 26 Dec 2012 of a Supported Devices page that is dated 21 Dec 2012 that says "Android 2.3+"
[Edit: Even more definitively, here's a snapshot of the Play Store page from 17 Nov 2012, 2 days after release, that also says "Requires Android: 2.3 and up"]
It's called Ingress
Have you ever play ingress? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nianticproject.ingress
Have you tried Ingress? I mentioned it to the original OP too. It's a free GPS location game where you have to go to landmarks around you to play. The more one plays, the more other players will notice you and want to coordinate, help you, and hang out. The game community has already been setup by players in your local area before you, so it's a quite easy in with the whole community just by playing the game and talking to them in game. It's really quite different than other games in a few ways, gets you to visit areas around you and meet other players in person, and you can go anywhere in the world and talk to local players there and meet up.

http://www.androidcentral.com/app/ingress
> Ingress at its most basic is an alternate reality game (aka AR) that pits two factions against each other for control of Mind Units the world over.
And Ingress came out when 4.2 was more supported, they are up to android 6.0.1 and referencing Android M already also.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nianticproject.ingress&hl=en > Requires Android 4.0 and up
Also if you ready /r/ingress you would see people complaining about server lag and game large because of the intense animations, and people asking how to disable animations.
I know when I put my phone in battery saver mode ingress is unbearably slow.
Niantic knows what they are doing if they require Android 4.2 I'm sure it is for a reason
I play Ingress instead. * Bigger community, * active players and * good for making friends etc.
Ingress. Basically an instant eyeball game slash app.
so kind of like the opposite of Ingress?
Hmm, I've been in your position dude. Heck, I still go back to that place more often then I would like to. I've been kicked out of school, I'm living with my parents, I get stuck with crummy evening weekend shifts at work, my T1D acts up sometimes, etc.
Yet, I can't really say I'm unhappy. I found a group of people with a common interest, and I can honestly say they're my friends. My advice would be to find a hobby or interest you enjoy and seek out local people who also enjoy it. Just getting out of the house and taking a walk usually helps. This game could take you to a few interesting places.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nianticproject.ingress&hl=en
The game is called Ingress. Essentially, you walk to real world Portal locations and capture them for your Faction. The Portal locations can range from post offices, to libraries, to hotels, to museums. More then likely, there are a few around you.
Another trick that works for me is positive music. Here are a few good ones,

It's also on IOS
Remember there are a lot of different type of games. I've met a lot of cool people through Ingress
Not a game, but Spine is built in libgdx. As far as games go, Ingress (Play Store) by google looks pretty polished.
It's been out for a week or so ...

If you want or need an excuse to get social and meet other people who live in and around Davis/Woodland consider downloading the game Ingress.
Be sure to join the green team (Enlightened)!

Well that's fantastic! But for me and a alarmingly large number of other people right on their very own download link unfortunately do have problems. A large number of problems.
Be warned. Addictive.
