Hey everyone! The update is live, and full patch notes are here. Holiday Doubles and Holiday Social will run through the holidays (1/4), at which point we'll take a look at their population, game types, etc, to determine what happens to both of them moving forward. In whichever form they return, the goal is to add new content to them over time. Does "social" become one with Action Sack, with wacky game types, or do those stay separate, and social becomes sort of a "Team Training" from H2? What type of cool stuff can we do with Doubles that hasn't been done before? Thinking out loud once again, but these are all conversations that are underway now.

This may be an unpopular opinion, but I really like the menu we got in Halo 5.
It has a beautiful simplicity to it. The Infinity literally doesnn't move an inch - everything moves around it.
Halo Reach had the best menu though!
Extremely good points. Halo has always been a relatively simple shooter that rewards those who learn how it works. It's the reason the original trilogy was so popular.
There was a post at Halo Waypoint addressing many of the problems H5 has that need to be fixed in order to be successful as not just a Halo game, but a AAA game as well if 343 is hoping for any replay value and longevity in their game. Map was tuned a bit from the original, spacing issues were addressed and overall made the experience better to play on. 100% classic version is in the works still, just wanted to get the one that played better out sooner.

There have been leaks about the story(most famously 434 Architect from the B.net fourms), and Jason Schreier wrote an utterly fantastic article on the insane development which makes mention of some plot points that on their own are better than pretty much any story told in D1 proper(the stories told in the Grimoire are closer to what Staten wanted to tell in game, either through lore or actual cutscenes and dialog).
People are acting like this is unprecedented. Call of Duty actually has a F2P game in China, and all it is a re skinned MW2 with some maps from other games in the series. It's not some horrible evil plot by 343i to 'ruin the franchise', something this sub seems to think is their goal, but just Microsoft saying "Hey, we're gonna pay some other dev to port this to PC. We're gonna make it F2P since the piracy levels in Russia are insane and no one would pay for it anyway. If it goes over well, maybe we'll bring it to other regions,". I know someone is going to say "But it says 343i was INVOLVED! They were doing this and not fixing MCC!". 343i are the curators of the franchise. They have to, at least to an extent, approve these things.

The latest blog touches upon why Doubles (and other playlists) weren't permanent at launch, and also that we've heard feedback on playlists like SWAT and Doubles loud and clear - that you like them a lot, and you want them to stay.

Something that's a little interesting in this week's accompanying Canon Fodder is part of the flavor text for the Stinger armor: "Developed in conjunction with the AV-49 Attack VTOL".
The Hornet has the designation of AV-14. Two Halo Wars aircraft include the AV-22 Sparrowhawk and the AV-30 Kestrel. (The Falcon is designated UH-144 for those wondering; not sure why it's not part of the AV family)
I bet the AV-49 is a new UNSC aircraft in Halo Wars 2. I'd prefer a new UNSC aircraft for Halo 5, but I feel that's the less likely possibility.
The problem is half the people aren't actually quitting, they're disconnecting from the game due to a weird lag issue that many people have been having and 343 continue to ignore and not address.

For those wondering, yes the wheel spins. However, in my Alpine version I used timing scripts, so it was a bit jumpy at times. I'm currently working on a new method that will hopefully make it a lot smoother!
And also, yes the drop bridge works just as it did in the 3 previous Halo versions, the gate opens via a switch in the base, and there are destructible window covers in the main base :)

Honestly, I really don't understand how this is fun. There's a few people with 1000 plus games with 80% or more win rate, and all of the games look like this. For example, look at this guy, 2336 wins out of 2342 games What's the point? Why play 10 hours a day steamrolling the other team? It's no challenge, it can't be satisfying. You're going to spend more time looking for games, waiting in the pregame lobby, listening to Palmer, than you will actually playing the game. You're rolling 12 deep against 12 randoms, and slaughtering them in 4 mins. That'd be like winning a pick up game of football because you're an organized team of NFL players, vsing high schoolers, and winning before the end of the first quarter because you killed the other team.
Call me crazy, but I like close games. I like having to fight for the bases. I like trying to counter capture armories, trying to flank boss kills.
To each his own.

I'm one of these people. Am I quitting because i'm losing? No. Am I quitting because other people have quit? No. 80% of my games end in me being disconnected from the servers, sometimes it takes less than a minute and other times it can happen after 15 minutes of LAG FREE gameplay. I've lost ranks, legendary/ultra rare xp/rp boosts, and honestly I've lost patience. Don't get me wrong I LOVE this game which is why i've continued to(attempt to) play multiplayer.

Please 343i, I love your game but just can't play it :( this afternoon has been particularly bad as i've played 8 games, a mixture of warzone and arena and have yet to complete a single one. There was even one BTB Lobby I was disconnected from THREE times throughout the duration of just one game.

To elaborate a bit, I played a bunch of matches today and really tried to find where the differences are. When the control stick is fully extended it's no different in feeling. I tried to find a difference here - I made lots of circles fast and slow with the reticle but it was all the same pattern. However, when you want to make small adjustments, it's completely different both due to the stiffer stick and deadzones. When trying to make small adjustments, it's easy to push just too hard in a direction and send the reticle flying at full speed, which explains the problems people are having. On the original 360 controller, it's almost like there's a middle zone on the stick where you can make finer adjustments without moving the reticle at full speed. On the Xbox One controller, that zone is basically nonexistent. If we had some very granular sensitivity options it could probably be mitigated on the Xbox One controller (not sure about the Elite - I have heard it's different on it too, and that it has stiffer sticks).

Also, I know a lot of people complained about how diagonal reticle movement is faster, but that has always been the case in H3. I think people are just too used to the smoothed aiming in Reach onwards and forgot it was like that.

On occasion, players may not see their Post-Game-Carnage-Report. If this occurs, you need not worry as your XP and RP earnings are still being tracked and logged for your account. If you want to try this intro and menu, the files are located here.
Essentially all I did was replace the Bink video files with different ones. This isn't too difficult and you can convert your own videos using the RAD Video Tools available here.
The hardest part is getting the video in a format it can accept (AVI or MOV)(Or in the case of the menu an image works)
The menu is also able to be a video file, but I just replaced it with an image.
You can literally make them whatever you want.
There's a google chrome addon that allows you to mass-sell your REQ cards on Halo Waypoint. Hope this helps.

The latest update has said they're working on "matchmaking preferences". I'm really hoping this includes Good Connection or Quick Search.

Every other playlist is dead. FFA and Warzone Assault have never worked.

Why are so many of your games in Game History listed as you DNF (Did Not Finish)? Is this stat padding? Or is it so that you always stay in lower level so that you can dominate like this? It's just really fishy to me that you DNF more matches than you finish. Even when you are doing well.

The ability to party up with matchmade teammates was in MCC at launch until they decided that it was causing a lot of matchmaking issues. They removed the feature with one of the patches as a temporary solution to improve matchmaking results much like how they made all playlists 5v5 for a while. Give it time and I suspect it will be back in the game.
Edit: I went back to find the specific update that made the change. "Made an update to the high-level matchmaking flow that will reset lobbies after each match. Moving forward, players and party leaders need to press "B" after the post-game-carnage report, and select a playlist for their next match. This flow is consistent with previous Halo titles." Update notes 12-3-14
It doesn't say that it's temporary, however I'd be surprised if it wasn't. Halo 2 was the only game that returned back to the lobby after each game. All of the newer Halos have some sort of auto-search feature, so unless they drop all development once matchmaking is working I would expect them to at least attempt to put it back into the game.
At launch there is only one ranked playlist. This is because the ranking system they are using is new. They even said rank might be reset if it needs to. Here:

This is the first time we’ve built a Matchmaking and ranking system that will work across multiple games, and as a result, we’ll be rolling out ranking for each playlist post-launch, and will launch with one ranked playlist, Team Halo 2: Anniversary. As time goes on, we’ll be rolling out the official ranked version for each ranked playlist. For example, the Halo 3 and Halo 4 playlists will not be ranked immediately at launch (however, they will still have skill matchmaking underneath to ensure balanced matches), but will each receive ranked play post-launch. As this is a new system custom built for this game, we do expect some players to make every effort to exploit the system, and will be agile in issuing fixes and updates. Additionally, if needed, we will reset ranks after launch to ensure that all player’s ranks are fair, consistent, and accurate. We’ll provide more details on ranking and the playlist ranking rollout in the near future.

This is a BTB map that I Co-forged with lLSilentll. The map is inspired by the outdoor sections of the planet Requiem from Halo 4.
lLSilentll designed the center section of the map, the rock trench and the mid forerunner section. I then took his style and ideas and expanded it out to make a btb map.
The map features the center rock trench and garden area, a neutral forerunner building (monolith), and a cave system along the opposite side of the map that connect two forerunner bases with a large yard in front.
The center of the map has various vehicle lanes for the warthogs, gungeese, ghosts and a neutral mantis to traverse, but the map avoids large open spaces to keep the vehicles from being too powerful.

"Designed around the core matchmaking infection gamemode, Night at the Diner provides players with an infection experience that is fun for both the survivors and the infected. The Alpha Zombies have the upper hand in the early stages of each round--they spawn inside the diner at one of four locations and have the opportunity to ambush an unsuspecting survivor. This is the only time that the zombies can spawn inside the diner. Clear it out as a team and you can claim the weapons from the arsenal that lies within--just remember to lock down the two toggle doors first. After that, the zombies will spawn in every direction on the outside facing in; this includes the starting area where the survivors spawn. Survivors be warned, there is only one weapon that lies outside the diner and hiding along the outskirts of the map doesn't work for very long."

Just to clear up a misconception, your placement matches are much more heavily based on personal performance (if not exclusively based), while any games after that are entirely whether you win or lose. So going 10-0 doesn't matter for your placement, and going 0-10 because of bad teammates also doesn't. You're only "punished" for losing once the system says you've been placed with your equals (meaning bad randoms should theoretically be less of a problem).

Also, from what I can gather Bronze and Silver are meant to be below-average players, with Gold most likely being average. If you've ever played Bronze or Silver players you'd see why they're only 5-10% of the population.

Yes you should look up Project Orion(you find out in Halsey's journal that she named spartan II's "IIs" to pay tribute to the men that had come before in Orion which was never named Spartan that was coined by Halsey. There was a thread ) posted recently with a great download for Halsey's journal you should give it a look.
