he will not pick up the TV and will ask you to wire or send the money back (in some form other than returning the check)
the check may initially clear at the bank but will eventually turn out to be fake, so you will be out of the money you wire back.

I was testing out this app Nextdoor (neighborhood social networking). It auto-assigns you to a neighborhood, I was filed in one that went further down into Savin Hill.
I swear, had to leave that because of annoying house moms blasting out "black kids on bikes" alerts every other day.
(Not criminal activity, "saw them hanging out under a tree on this street")
To report things like this to the transit police you can use the MBTA See Say app. Available for Android and iOS. I've used it several times and they are always quick to respond.
You can include photos with your report. Just try to tell them which direction you are going, what station you're at, and what car of the train you are.
The checkpoint is in the SB Lanes of 93, between Tripoli Rd. And Waterville Valley. See Waze
If you want to avoid it, I recommend Rte3, from Lincoln, or SR 175, from Tripoli Rd.
Things* are not looking up.
I agree, since the last week or so they've officially entered the Death Spiral. Once they started the auto-loading of heavy graphics, hospice has been waiting by the phone.
In fairness, once they restricted the real news from it, it had no place to go... who could grow a PC buzzfeed with a local budget?
edit: *see grelphy's posts below on how this class of analytics are suspect.
The website looks like something from the early 2000's.
Your main goal is information. Don't use an image as a background, it's an eye sore and detracts from the main criteria of your site: information.
For the love of god, make the menu bar span the entirety of the page, and make it stay at the top of the browser like most new sites these days (example: https://angular.io/)
I'd highly suggest using material design on the site over it's current design. Look at sights like google now. It uses shapes and shadows to make things more minimalistic and informative. (example: https://colemanrollins.io/)
Don't cater to mobile. Please, if you want to cater to mobile, spend the $200,000 to hire and iOS and Android developer to hook into your API and provide a better experience.
Site definitely needs to be more responsive. This honestly looks like something that was scrapped together in a couple months without and real product ownership
How can 10 third party integrations include a responsive real time map of current stations, and the owners of the damn API can't put one together?
Edit: Your damn feedback form looks better then your entire site, I was about to say, take your feedback form and apply it to the entire site, but I now see it is a google doc.
If you are someone who ever hikes even small amounts, amounts much smaller than this, please, please consider investing in an emergency beacon like this one (Amazon link). When turned on, the beacon reports your position found from GPS through satellite. In other words, even in terrible weather in the middle of nowhere, you'll get the message through. It is an investment, but will very likely save your life if anything happens. I know there is definitely a feeling amongst hikers, sailors, etc, of "I don't need that" or "it's cheating" or "it's too heavy." But, I would never go on a major hike without one.
Often those who do these sorts of hikes are young and don't have a lot of money; if you are a friend or family member of one of those people, definitely consider pooling money together before they embark on a trip. This woman would absolutely still be alive today if she'd had a way to call for help that did not rely on cell service. These tools have gotten so good, so reliable, so lightweight, and so inexpensive that there's not much of an excuse not to have one anymore, especially if you are at risk (an older woman with a back problem on her own on a treacherous section of trail = extraordinarily at risk).
No, you may be thinking of a -30F windchill. Per weather.com. Coldest since Jan '57.
I get confused by the lights near Cambridge Common (the park, not the restaurant) coming out of the underpass on Cambridge Street, where there's a red light and a green arrow at the same time.
For those confused about the word "plan." In this context, it means "map." See definition 3 in the OED.
It's quite common for old maps to be called a "plan" of something. The important thing to note is that this was an actual rendition of how Boston was laid out at the time, not a vision of what someone wanted it to be in the future as in our more modern use of the word "plan."
Made me think of the three-way intersection on McGrath highway in Somerville.
In the book, High and Mighty, the author notes that the number one response (at the time) for why women wanted an SUV was to be able to see under the car to determine whether someone was hiding out there, waiting to assault them.
my kneejerk reaction was similar to yours: how on earth will the city track this info?
The answer actually happened to be on AirBnb's website. There's a lot of cities that already have "short-term leasing" limits, London is the most obvious one.
The cities work with AirBnb and have AirBnB track the individual homes and limit them: https://www.airbnb.com/help/article/1340/i-rent-out-my-home-in-london--what-short-term-rental-laws-apply
AirBnB has been scummy about what laws they want to scurt but when cities put their foot down and say "work with us or don't work here at all," they've complied pretty well.
> Starting from early 2017, Airbnb’s systems are automatically limiting entire home listings in Greater London to 90 nights per calendar year. The information below explains why we have implemented this measure, and how it will work.
You must be an awful driver and probably should not have a license.
Update: I felt a need to justify my stance. Take a look at this spreadsheet from the Census Bureau compiled from data gathered by the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AuSCFEIK0QyTdHNLVk1Kdm1rSU11eWgxNGNOMEg2WEE
I highlighted the bottom three states as determined by fatality rate and you'll notice that Massachusetts is always in the bottom 3, often with the lowest fatality rate. So, even if you still think we're shitty driver at least know that you have less of a chance of being in a fatal car accident than any other state.
I understand the criticism.
I would still like to explain my point of view. I am an hobbyist photographer, I do it in my spare time and just for fun. I have a full time job and taking pictures gives me the opportunity to do something creative out of my job. It is also a way to spend some time with myself and explore a bit the city.
I've seen this place in many other pictures, but I wanted to go there and take a picture myself. It's like when you learn how to play an instrument, you start by playing covers and that ability to recreate something you know and are familiar makes you incredibly satisfied.
I decided to post this picture because I was very happy with the result and because it was my first time using the focus stacking technique. I was happy with the composition, the tones and the overall result.
But it's not the only shot of Boston I took. I have been taking pictures of Boston since I bought my camera, 4 months ago. I have been exploring a lot the city. For example, this picture was taken from the top of the BU law building. I went there in the evening, took the elevator to the last floor and enjoyed that amazing view. The picture was taken through a window. I had to do my best to eliminate reflections and dirt from the window.
Thanks for the criticism. It's a way to understand what people like/dislike and get better.
The Union Freight Railroad ran from 1872 until 1970 switching freight cars between all the industries on all the piers along the waterfront. Boston used to be a much more industrial city and this was the backbone of the industries in the North End.
This locomotive is an Alco S2 either numbered 0600 or 0603 and at the time was leased from the New Haven Railroad, hence the New Haven lettering on the long hood.
In the later parts of the 20th century, most of the railroad operations were in the middle of the night. From time to time the train conductor would have to go into a nearby bar to find whoever parked their car blocking what looked like a long out-of-service track with a train right there. The tracks were embedded in the asphalt of Atlantic Avenue for the majority of their route and saw very little maintenance, in the 1960s the trains made a lot of noise and rocked dangerously from side to side as they slowly made their way down the track.
And here's an Amazon link to a facinating book about this railroad as well as other Boston railroading history (I am not the author nor am I in any way affiliated, it's just a great book if you're into Boston history).
The"discrimination" exists because male hormonal birth control doesn't exist. Recently an option was killed during the clinical trial phase after men experienced side effects they couldn't deal with (like acne and mood swings) and thus dropped out of the trial, and a review committee stopped the trial. Notably these side effects are comparable to the side effects women have to endure with hormonal contraception, but because pregnancy is riskier than female hormonal contraception, those risks get a pass (a woman is more likely to die during pregnancy or childbirth than from hormonal birth control). There's no equivalent with men - males can reproduce like bunnies without risking their physical health.
Don't like it? Start lobbying for male birth control options. Believe me - most couples (and women) would LOVE males to be able to carry some of this burden.
The solution is not, however, to complain about female hormonal birth control being covered. If a woman is having sex where she's using birth control to prevent against pregnancy, there is a male directly benefiting from that situation. Further he's benefitting with none of the physical side effects, and while some couples might share the costs of co-pays or deductibles related to birth control costs, many don't and it falls to the female to cover.
The "broken down car" scam is used pretty often and they always approach you in gas stations because you can't leave for the duration of the fill up.

A better way to look at it isn't picking specific dates, but looking at every day of the month and comparing to the historical average, as you can see here: https://www.wunderground.com/history/airport/KBOS/2017/10/26/MonthlyCalendar.html?req_city=Boston&req_state=MA&reqdb.zip=02155&reqdb.magic=1&reqdb.wmo=99999#calendar
By my count, we have had 18 days already (out of 26 so far) this October where the actual high was at least 5 degrees high than the average high temperature for that day historically. We have only had 4 days where the high temperature was at all lower than the historical high.
That implies this October is exceptionally warm for October in Boston as compared to the average.
The Youth On Fire drop-in center was established in the fall of 2000 to provide a welcoming and non-judgmental environment for homeless and street-involved youth. YOF is open five days a week and serves young people between the ages of 14 and 24. YOF serves the physical and mental needs of these youth.
The center offers basic necessities. YOF has onsite hot meals, clothing, showers, and laundry facilities, as well as weekly medical care, mental health counseling, and referrals to community resources. The ultimate goal of YOF is to help as many youth as possible to have a healthy lifestyle, and seek greater stability through permanent housing, employment, or school.
Youth On Fire is located at 1555 Massachusetts Avenue in Cambridge. P (617) 661-2508 F (617) 661-2805
DROP-IN HOURS
Monday: 11:00 AM to 8 PM
Tuesday: 1:00 PM to 6 PM
Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday: 11:00 AM to 6 PM
(hot meals are served between 2:30 and 5:30 PM)
The ticks are a parasite, and their spread is largely determined by the spread of their host species. Everybody knows that deer have been going nuts in this area for a long, long time, but the more notable harbinger of the Lyme bacterium is (the white-footed mouse)[https://www.npr.org/sections/goatsandsoda/2017/03/06/518219485/forbidding-forecast-for-lyme-disease-in-the-northeast]. Some folks think that since the timber rattlesnake is being pushed out of the area due to snake-panic, once of the major effects is the increase in Lyme due to these mice running out of control. The NPR article also breaks down how the fragmenting of our wild-lands is helping the mice too, by cutting down the hunting grounds of hawks, owls, and foxes.
Since you set it up, I highly recommend the book "Why are the black kids sitting together in the cafeteria?"
Not as uncommon as you might think. Those Pacific currents keep the large cities in AK at a pretty reasonable temperature. The people living in the very northernmost parts of the central US have it a lot rougher in terms of absolute temp. Minneapolis winters are on average a few degrees C colder than those of Anchorage. If you extend to medium sized cities, there are plenty that are chillier.
When Boston is colder than the Twin Cities, that's more notable :)
For CR, the real deal is the MBTA Rail app, thankfully unaffiliated with Keolis. I use it every day.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ech.mbtarail
Commenters are good about alerting to ongoing track changes that won't show up in the official app. Also useful for delays because the official MBTA alert system apparently uses carrier pigeons or something.
Unpopular Opinion: Concerts at Fenway are trash. Might as well buy one of those handheld/portable TVs with the antenna, and watch a prerecorded concert on that, because that's about as good of a view as you can get.
Go for a walk and stop in a liquor store, grab a couple of nips of Dr McGillicuddies and a few scratchies, then slip her one of these Will you marry me fake scratchies. If you do it in the store you can ask them for the security footage.
Idk man, you can read the letters he wrote to his wife. Looking at his personal conversations and relationships, he definitely didn't think he was peerless or walk around like his shit didn't stink. He spent a lot of his time self deprecating and being overall pretty down on himself, thinking at first all the other guys were gonna have better farms than him, then even once he "made it" worrying he wasn't gonna have much of a legacy. But I guess the average Masshole recipe does generally call for a healthy dose of self-loathing.
Shameless self-promotion: I made a similar app for Android to teach myself coding and to learn how the T's predictions system works. Mine has prettier colors and uses your phone's GPS to locate the nearest stops. It's also probably buggier ^because ^^I ^^^suck ^^^^at ^^^^^programming . Any feedback and criticism is welcome.
If you want to maximize the effect, launch an Echo app to make their own music unlistenable by playing it back at them, with audible delay.
Ouch. Do you walk, bike or drive? I would never live somewhere where I had to commute 32 minutes a day personally. 8 minutes or less each way for me. I started using one of these recently and it cut down my commute to 5 minutes. Also, the company I work at has THREE ping pong tables in the break room, and my luxury apartment building has a doggy daycare. I don't yet own a dog because my playboy bachelor lifestyle is incompatible with the care of another sentient being, but it's really comforting to know that I have the option.
If you have an Android phone, download this app for realtime bus arrivals. It's maybe 3 minutes early on the bus arrival times, but otherwise works very well for me.
Do you know what area you're thinking of moving to? I lived in the Brookline/Allston/Brighton area for 5 years... it was great during college, but commuting to work on the green line is a bitch. I'm glad I moved to the other side of the river (Cambridge).
My favorite bars are:
The Lower Depths (Kenmore Square). A ridiculous amount of different types of beers to choose from, and very delicious food. They do a ton of beer socials with both local & non local breweries; if you "Like" them on facebook you'll be in the loop.
The Silhouette (Allston). Complete dive with darts & popcorn.
Clerys (South End/Back Bay). I only like this place because they open up the downstairs for dancing on Friday & Saturday nights. No cover, and you're not in a gross club downtown with clearly underage ladies and eurotrash.
People's Republik (Central Square, Cambridge). Kinda divey, good beers and lots of darts (yes, I like darts a lot!).
Wally's (South End). Jazz club, and lots of interesting people watching. It's REALLY cramped, but I've always had a good time there.
There's many more great bars, but these should help you get started. Hope this helps and good luck with your move!
what's great about craigslist is they're committed to being like the old classifieds and NOT getting involved in the communications or transaction.
to be fair, they're pretty clear about scams on their site and they even remind you when you post your ad:
To add a bit more nuance to this, read People Before Highways. It details the diverse activist movement that put a halt to several planned highways in the city's urban core and ultimately resulted in the orange line realignment and Southwest Corridor Park.
It's not as bad if you can knock yourself out to sleep.
I've flown to China on United (RIP) and I ended up paying the 20-something bucks for WiFi and was able to play around on my phone for most of the flight.
Also, apparently this is a LPT:
Basically, a lot of airlines require you to use your own phone to stream the inflight entertainment now. A lot of them also require you to download their app in order to do so. When you follow the link to download the app, it will temporarily give you an internet connection to do the download. Instead of downloading the app, move the app store to the background, and browse away freely on the internet.
And the one in 2024 is going to be much better for us.
I believe we're at about 90% totality, with 100% being easily driveable.
This picture is a 3 shots panorama. Each of them, is composed of 3 shots taken at different focus points and merged in photoshop, in order to obtain the details both in the chain and in the background, increasing the depth of view.
More on my instagram.
It was a large studio with a full kitchen and the pool, hot tub, and roof deck were shared with the building. Private balcony was all ours though.
Edit: here you go! Same building, different apartment. $145 a night. https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/14105831?guests=1&adults=1&children=0&infants=0&s=9TLG7EbA
This is actually a 1 bed too, not a studio, though not as well appointed as the apartment we stayed in.
Edit again: just found the exact place. It's actually listed for $79 but we paid $200 cuz we went on a prime weekend in August. Still an awesome deal!! https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/4746470?guests=1&adults=1&children=0&infants=0&s=lFKbGilg
Agreed. Old pension programs are a drain, look at the U.S Postal Service. It also doesn't help that the state dumped the whole Dig Dig debt in with the MBTA. http://finance.yahoo.com/news/debt-big-dig-hampers-mass-160821739.html
I briefly scanned your history thinking/hoping you were either very young or a foreign traveler returning home. You are a 29 year old American child, get your shit together man.
wow, I actually disagree with nearly everything you said but it was especially interesting that you brought up the "coffee lawsuit". I assume you're talking about the McDonalds one, right?
Turns out, they were serving their coffee absurdly hot (to cut costs). The ultra-hot coffee caused severe (3rd degree burns I think?) burns and the victim sued just to cover medical costs. McDonalds then went on a smear campaign against "frivolous lawsuits".
here's a good summary of that one.
There's more where that came from though if you want a different source.
Thanks for the video; I'll have to watch it later.
I noticed the Globe article this morning. Jeff Speck ("Mr. Walkability", and a Brookline resident- https://www.amazon.com/Walkable-City-Downtown-Save-America/dp/0865477728) apparently designed or helped design the project
Sorry to be a dick, but we get questions like this all of the time. You'll get the same responses. I'm sick of seeing this shit on my homepage.
READ THIS: http://wikitravel.org/en/Boston
READ THIS: http://code.reddit.com/wiki/help/faqs/boston
Edit: Actually, I'm not sorry about being a dick. Go to Boston and you'll realize what I'm talking about.
Largest available scan with some context for the lines. Of all of these proposed extensions, only the Braintree Branch was actually built as intended. If you're curious why a line was or wasn't built (or why the route was chosen) I can probably answer.
They are the regular metered spots, you just pay w/ the app on your phone instead of putting quarters in the meter... The meters have stickers with a Zone on them, you punch in that zone number (they get very specific; zone 240 is Lincoln Street between Kneeland and Beech) and your license plate # and you're good.

It's called ParkBoston
Have you checked out Airbnb? There are postings like this one that mention they're looking for 1-3 month rentals.
Also, if you're coming with a group of students, I presume you're going to have a sponsoring university? Perhaps they have something available for the month and a half.
I would head out to Bolton, Ma. It is beautiful. Bolton Spring Farms is one of many nice orchards out there. Then I would go out to eat at J's Restaurant. It is a great place.
Do you need a door-to-door solicitation permit in Boston? I know a lot of mass towns require it and involves a criminal background check. Here's a nice one from these folks in Quincy last year.

Can also geo-report graffiti and potholes and such
A few exceptions:
If you find yourself using commuter rail a lot, use the community developed app called "MBTA Commuter Rail Tracker". It's leagues better than the official one in detail and accuracy.
If you want to be a power user of the T, the MBTA Tracker app is good because it shows you the raw location of trains/busses. Why is this helpful? If something goes south on the red line and trains get backed up, all Transit will tell you is there are 3 trains 0 minutes away. MBTA Tracker will show you that there are three trains stacked up next to each other. It will also tell you that the train hasn't moved in X minutes which can help you make a judgment about how bad the delay is.
Plug for /r/MBTA!
The design of the poster leaves much to be desired, but this was back in a time when I believe the MBTA actually used to have a design team within/connected to communications. I have a pamphlet from this era - also from Ward Maps - about Red Line and Green Line major capital maintenance projects preceding this one.
It seems like that team got canned somewhere in the '90s because that's when good communications material like this disappears and then we start getting shitty copy-pasted press releases 'designed' by line managers and dumped onto seats as 'seat drops', a once legit strategy MBTA employed last decade for communicating major system outages...
Might be better weather for running in all honestly. The past three springs have been the absolute pitts. I think it was so cold in 2018- close to freezing-that some runners got hypothermia.

Hey, I can't host you at my place, but if worse comes to worse I will pay to set you up on a couch with airbnb and I will drive you from wherever you are to there and to your flight. (or arrange for transportation if I am at work.) I can also make sure you have food.
https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/4913392?checkin=01%2F12%2F2015&checkout=01%2F26%2F2015&s=nnid
I've been in the situation of not having a place to stay for a few days. Its a miserable experience. I slept on a porch for a couple of days.
Also if you can find something else on airbnb or similar at a similar price that works better we can work that out.

Mt. Auburn ranked higher than Tufts and Beth Israel but lower than Newton Wellesley, Brighams, Faulkner and Carney in your area. ymmv.
I live in a ground floor studio with huge ass windows. It works. Got my place down to like 75F during the heat wave. Hand me down from previous tenant, so it’s about 5 years strong no issues
You can get a new gauge on Amazon for under $20. I hate to throw fixable stuff out but you have to consider the value of your time and repair cost.
Not sure which model canner you have but if it's an AA this one should work: https://www.amazon.com/All-American-pressure-cooker-guage/dp/B000S8I0YW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1480102836&sr=8-1&keywords=all+american+pressure+canner+gauge

The answer, posted multiple times, was that there was a third option. I was looking for a third option and I found a third option.

Some of them do have apps. Somerville Green & Yellow Cab, for example. So does Boston Cab.
Never used it. No idea how it is.
I think the online search tool isn't very good for this particular query. I downloaded all of the contributions by 'Union/Accociation' and then filtered by those that included 'police' in the name. Probably could do better but here's the result in a tsv: https://gofile.io/d/ZFEp4P
looks like there's been ~50,000 dollars given from 2018 to present.
> Sharing Facebook messages, although pretty shitty, is not the same thing as hacking into someone's account.
US law would disagree with you. He accessed her account which he had no authorization.
> What's your definition of doxxing? Nothing he revealed or mentioned was already publicly available.
Publishing someone's personal information with the intent to humiliate or harass. Which he clearly did. Just because somewhere there's a piece of public record with the information doesn't mean that his intent was clearly ill.
> The nude photos were taken by a professional.
Again, he did it to humiliate and harass. Also, as they were taken by a professional, he violated copyright law.
> What else do you want to misconstrue?
No, I stand by what I said. The more I read about Gjoni, the worse excuse for a human being he becomes. Oh hey, I noticed you like to post in KiA a lot, but what's weird is you're posting in the Boston subreddit while appearing to live in Canada.
If you and/or the kids are up for a hike, my favorite short-ish hike in the White Mountains is hike up to the Lonesome Lake hut on Cannon Mountain:
https://www.outdoors.org/lodging-camping/huts/lonesome
The hike to the hut (really more of a lodge) follows a stream all the way up with lots of waterfalls. The lake is really peaceful and pretty, and in season (June through October) you can get a hot meal at the hut. The trail map can be found here:
https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/new-hampshire/lonesome-lake-trail
The couples that stay in the city also tend to move to the streetcar suburbs within Boston where they are close to everything but can live in a place with a driveway and a backyard.
MBTA recently upgraded their bus predictions, and as a side effect of this change, they stopped supporting NextBus api. They still have their own api available for developers. I am developer, and I built MBTA Tracker app (however it's only for Android). I live in Boston and I commute daily to my work. I made the app the way I like it as a user. It's using latest MBTA api version 3. It's not MBTA endorsed app, but I got feedback from many users saying that they like my app more than officially selected Transit app. If you are on Android, check it out: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.konos.mbtatracker
To add to this, you can buy a paper ticket at one of the fare vending machines / windows at Back Bay, or you can use the mTicket app (iPhone, Android) to buy a ticket, and then you show the conductor your phone on the train.
If you get on at a station where you could have bought a ticket, they'll charge you an additional $3 on top of the fare to pay with cash on board.
Except that OP's test case doesn't prove that.
Trigger can write data to re-writable NFCs, but thanks to its cloud-based storage system, it can pretend to do so with read-only cards seamlessly:
> Now supporting read-only tags & allowing you to write any amount of data to any tag using Tagstand's cloud service. This allows you to use your tags just as you would any writable tag without worrying about size.
you know I thought it was decorative until I saw a recent episode of boardwalk empire where there was a bathroom scene that had light beaming in from the sidewalk...extremely coincidental actually.
"If you live in a sufficiently old city in the U.S.,Canada, or the UK you've probably seen these set into concrete sidewalks or the panels of cast iron steps. Termed vault lights in the U.S., pavement lights in the UK, and sidewalk prisms in Canada, the glass insets were originally clear and intended to produce daylighting in subterranean spaces. The ethereal purple color results from the glass's manganese content being exposed to ultraviolet light over time. Many vault lights or sidewalk prisms are in poor condition, but some are being repaired."
Not much online but you can have a look https://www.google.com/search?gcx=c&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8&q=sidewalk+vault+lights
A comment from Dan on the same post:
> King Triton was a former USCG small inland buoytender that was bought by the City Of Boston and used by the Harbormaster to service the city mooring fields. It was called the “Probably Cause” until the mooring field was turned over to a private club and the boat was sold to Triton Diving, and is used as a commercial dive boat/workshop.
And from tugster himself:

The Whale Watch out of Aquarium is overpriced. $53/ticket? GTFO. I picked up some tickets off Groupon for $30/piece (Groupon is littered with Whale Watching coupons), the boat sailed out of Gloucester, it went out 10 miles or so. If you enjoy boats and wildlife, you'll love it! Try Groupon. I'm cheap so I wouldn't pay more than $30 per ticket. Plus Gloucester is a quaint fishing community and is a much better place to sail out of for whale watching.
Well, I don't have any textbooks but I loaded it up with my laptop and two the biggest books I own and here's how it holds up.
Honestly, I never put a lot of weight in it and was surprised about how comfortable it was. Didn't really hurt my shoulders too much and I definitely think its doable but I would worry if the stitching on the straps started to get a little loose.
The quality isn't bad but it's not something I expect to last me longer than a year or two. That's the problem I find with Primarks products. I also use this mostly for when it's a little bit rainy out. It's absorbs a bit of water but what I've had inside has stayed relatively dry(papers haven't ever been waterlogged or anything).
I generally don't use this bag when I'm carrying my laptop because I use my Kenneth Cole messenger bag which is an absolute STEAL for $80. I picked it up in December of 2014 and it's such a great bag. Has definitely started showing some wear but I love it. Let me know if you have any questions about it.
> We’ve been conditioned since infancy to ignore most of these fatalities, along with the behaviors that cause them. If you’re a typical American, your first experience of speeding was while strapped into a car seat, and you rode past half a dozen fatal accident scenes before speaking your first complete sentence. A lifetime of exposure has convinced us to normalize, dismiss or ignore most traffic violations, to the point where we routinely exceed the speed limit despite the knowledge that speeding causes more than 30% of all traffic fatalities.
>This normalization is entirely a product of exposure, and that’s what makes bikes so comparatively frightening: we prefer the devil we know, even when it’s infinitely more bloodthirsty than the one we don’t.
How about you actually look at the sources because all of the ones I linked have multiple days (except maybe 94). What about the week long highs of above 60 in 1930. Don't be a dick just to be a dick.
Are you sure it's only $9.00 a month back? I've been using Schwab for a few years, and always thought it was unlimited. Their website still advertises it as unlimited, too: > * Unlimited fee rebates from any ATM worldwide^1
Grubhub delivers from Flour Bakery. I would recommend the 6" Boston Cream Pie. We have enjoyed a version of this for every occasion from a phD defense to July 4th celebrations. https://www.grubhub.com/restaurant/flour-bakery--cafe-190-massachusetts-ave-cambridge/131800
It a cake not a pie in reality.
This Needham/Dover Loop is one of my go-to routes when I want to get in a quicker ride:
https://ridewithgps.com/routes/13393322
If you're looking for group rides, I highly recommend Ride Studio Cafe in Lexington and Quad Cycles in Arlington. You can take Mass Ave or the bike path straight to get to either, and riding from the city gives you a nice warm-up ride.
That’s borderline misinformation. Masks do work. The question, however, is what kinds of masks work in what way and for what purpose. Cloth masks will, generally speaking, protect others from yourself but not yourself from others given Coronavirus is mostly transmitted through the air. Medical grade masks like N95/N99, however, are a different story. Here, too, however the story is not as simple as the main criterion is fit, ie are you breathing through the air holes on the side or through the mask (the former will not protect you (much), the latter will). Those masks do protect both you as well as the other person. This is true for N95/KN95/FFP2 to some extent, whereas a recent study in the UK clearly demonstrated the effectiveness of FFP3 (so N99) masks. So yes, masks do work.
More generally, it is hard to measure the effectiveness of masks which lead some people to the conclusion that they don’t work. That is not true. Often mask mandates are being introduced with other measures and as such it is hard to identify the efficacy of masks once cases go down because you can’t say whether it’s people not going out, wearing masks, most things being closed down, most people interacting outside, etc. Add to that, that people can still get infected while mask mandates are in place; think college students that meet in a dorm room and don’t wear masks although they should. In addition, “masks” is a very unclear term as effectiveness differs between different types and, importantly, fit. But that does not mean that masks are not working (you think they wear these in hospitals for fun?).
Aren't they just pink straws? Amazon sells them.
I don’t think it has to be a Dunkin’ reuseable cup? Surely you could get a more durable cup on amazon or something. Here’s a stainless steel one for $20:

MBTA Tracker works well; if you go to your route/stop and tap on a bus that has a vehicle assigned to it (meaning it's receiving live data), you can see where it is on the map and how long ago it was updated. The predictions are pretty accurate too.
For Android I'm very much partial to MBTA Tracker. Tried a bunch and this is my favorite. I think I remember liking Transit App, but this is much simpler and to the point imo.
Works great - my favorite feature is that I can make shortcuts to specific routes/stops/directions I use every day so it's an easy click to know the status (no need to wait for GPS to lock on and load up). If you just need arrival/departure info for specific stops it's great stuff.
“For every one person they count, there are about 10 people who go to the doctor and don’t get a stool culture,”
Here's an article from today with a little more details.

> One of the few AirBnB's to openly condone parties: https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/497810
Under house rules, it says "Beer Pong must be played with water in the play cups." I don't think I've ever seen an AirBnB post that didn't say "no parties allowed," so bizarre seeing one with party rules.
Nice thread!
*Always sprint when you think you're about to miss a bus/train, you never know when someone is gonna hold it up. I've made a bus sprinting from 4 blocks away (f yeah)
*Move to the back of the bus, don't be that clueless person that stops by the second door and causes a bottleneck.
*Be mindful of your bags, I've been hit in the head by thousands of purses over the years.
*Learn to use all the buses that are near you. I'm always surprised how many people live here for years and eschew to take 20 minute bus rides instead of 45 minute T rides.
*Don't be afraid to ask to sit next to someone or ask them to move their bag. People are often hesitant to sit next to me (I'm a big guy) but I don't mind, even if I did, so what it's a city.
totally worth doing, even loading up pink floyds echoes during the last 20+ mins
Unless you have active records, everyone thinks this. This actually has records, and it's basically the same. It just feels like October is the epitome of fall.
Here's an article about the trial, and [part of an article](http://pqasb.pqarchiver.com/boston/access/663765681.html?FMT=ABS&FMTS=ABS:FT&type=current&date=May+13%2C+1983&author=Jonathan+Kaufman+Globe+Staff&pub=Boston+Globe+(pre-1997+Fulltext\)&desc=3+EVERETT+POLICE+OFFICERS+CONVICTE...) about the conviction of 3 and acquittal of 2 of the officers.
appears to be two places on Abnb that are 30/night.
Montreal is the exception to the rule, which is why I left it out. It was also almost 40 years ago, almost 50 by the time the 2024 Olympics will take place.
Olympics in First World nations in general have not cost anywhere near the true cost of their infrastructure improvements, which is the whole point.
edit: Even Sydney, which is often reported as having $1.3BN-$2BN in "losses", got $3BN worth of permanent infrastructure and venues that are still in use out of the deal.
This is the correct answer. We are pretty much close to the average where temps are concerned for April. With the warmup on the way we might even wind up +1 or +2 degrees higher than normal for the average.
Cool stats: https://weatherspark.com/m/26197/4/Average-Weather-in-April-in-Boston-Massachusetts-United-States
And timeanddate.com has some yearly weather data. (Pinging /u/alphacreed1983 so they see this and /u/giacondasmiles since they pinged me above.)
And for specifics to Boston: https://www.nytimes.com/books/first/g/gamm-exodus.html
"Real estate brokers just didn't show houses outside of the lines marked on the map by the banks because if they wanted to make a sale, it was fruitless. They knew the banks would reject them," Sadelle Sacks explained to the Senate subcommittee. "In fact, when the line was announced there were many families who were caught in negotiating for houses just outside the line, some even just across the street, who had to give up on the houses. They couldn't buy them. The BBURG coalition had decided where the black communities could live." As the New York Times reported in 1971, "Loans from the pool were made to blacks buying homes within the boundary, but no loans were made for homes outside it."
> A Roman Catholic grammar school located near Boston has pulled out of the city's St. Patrick's Day parade in protest over organizers' decision to allow a gay veterans group to march in next month's event.
Just south of White Mountains is Chocorua. Great hike for a mild challenge. 2 hour drive (about the same as Monadnock) but far less crowded. Includes some above treeline scramble. https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/new-hampshire/mount-chocorua-loop-trail
A bit closer with a better view to effort ratio would be Mount Major. Spectacular views of Lake Winnipesaukee from the above tree line summit. Will be slammed with people. https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/new-hampshire/mount-major-and-brook-trail-loop
Genius! I did some digging and found https://unlocator.com/ which doesn't give me the privacy of a VPN, but also doesn't slow my service down or mess up my ability to get US-only services like HBOGo.
Took some finagling, but I am now streaming MLB.TV on my Roku. Good thing this game is in the 15th inning so I had plenty of time to figure it out...
Read an interesting book with this thesis (among others) many years ago, called "A History of the World in 6 Glasses":

(Other drinks of historical import are wine, spirits, tea, coffee, and soda)
I don't believe in busing. Instead we must address the lack of diversity inherent in these neighborhoods.
The lack of diversity is by design and is encoded in municipal zoning codes that are set up in such a way to exclude poorer people from certain areas.
Take West Cambridge or Belmont for instance. In these areas it's almost all expensive single family home; plus one needs a car to get around. Cheaper type of homes like apartments are illegal and buses don't run often or at all. This keeps out poorer people and increases segregation.
This was done on purpose. Richard Rothstein wrote a whole book about the topic called The Color of Law: A Forgotten History of How Our Government Segregated America
To address segregation, we must reform zoning, allow plentiful housing, and build neighborhoods where people of different backgrounds can live together.
Hijacking this comment to make a PSA that every single person driving in Boston SHOULD be driving with a dashcam.
I moved here from the midwest for my job two years ago and driving is a nightmare. No one follows the traffic ~~rules~~ suggestions and people bully their way into your lane. It feels like the car with the lower sticker value has the right of way.
I bought a dashcam off amazon, and have been hit by two drivers in the last couple of months. They tried to argue that they were in the right and told the insurance companies bullshit stories. But as soon as I showed them my dashcam footage the companies called in my favour (not at fault) instantly.

I have this model and would highly recommend it.
Cheapest way would be having a friend with a truck that’s willing to do it for gas money. Second cheapest would be finding someone via Craigslist/Facebook to do the same, but I imagine that would cost a hundred or two, plus the hassle. How attached to the bed are you?
A few years ago I moved from Boston to NYC, and I also don’t drive. Spent the first week or so with an air mattress. Spent a little more on a queen sized double-high, which honestly was pretty great, and I still have it. Useful for when friends crashed.
Amazon has mattresses like this which I am happy with, and most friends have commented on liking it. They come rolled in a box so easy enough to carry up a flights.
I paired it with this because of price - no box spring needed either. It folds flat so also easy to carry the box up a few flights. Storage space under the bed is a bonus.
A couple years later, I ended up moving back to Boston. Got rid of the bed again, and made the same purchases again. It was just way easier.
If you have that many bags of groceries, you might want to look into getting one of those foldable rolling carts to hold your groceries as you push the cart. Will probably make it a lot easier, while avoiding the costs of a car.
Edit: Something like this https://www.amazon.com/Wellmax-WM99024S-Shopping-Collapsible-Foldable/dp/B071NL7BG8/ref=sr_1_10?dchild=1&keywords=foldable+push+cart&qid=1600110454&sr=8-10
I see quite a few people pushing these around when i go on grocery runs.
No public transit directions, no street view, no navigation on iPhone 4, and perhaps most importantly the TomTom maps just suck and lack all the detail the GMaps have.
