Wayward Souls is pretty nice and not just a button mashing game. I play it with a controller but I dont think the touch controls are too difficult to get the hang of.
Multiple classes and similar to a souls like game

Wayward Souls, one of the best. A slick, charming hack and slash with great control implementation.
Mindustry. An excellent factory builder/RTS similar to Factorio
I have Wayward Souls and I have to say that I probably enjoy it more than BoI. If you're looking for a similar high-quality rogue with high replayability, give that a shot.
Wayward Souls sounds pretty close to what you're looking for. It's an overhead roguelike action-RPG with different playable classes. One time purchase with no IAP. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.noodlecake.waywardsouls&hl=en.
I enjoyed it quite a bit and it has very good reviews. http://www.metacritic.com/game/ios/wayward-souls
I tried Implosion a bit and it felt like a hack and slash game.
You might like Wayward Souls, unlock six classes, hack and slash, earn gold to get permanent upgrades, mostly randomly generated levels, find forges that change abilities in that run, start over at beginning or waypoints when you die. Paid, no ads, no IAPs, no timers/stamina limiting gameplay time.
Another Oceanhorn. More like a Zelda game. Available as a free, short, demo with a single IAP around $5 USD for full game.
Holy Hell, how has no one mentioned Wayward Souls? It's a dark fantasy roguelike, right up your alley. Very hard. Have fun.

Very good action-roguelite with an amazing soundtrack.

I always keep coming back to Wayward Souls.
It was the first "complete" game experience I had on mobile. It's an excellent, challenging, top down hack and slash with rogue lite elements and great atmosphere.

While i agree that Grimvalor and Castlevania SOTN are great games on their own, they're not exactly alike Dead Cells in what for me is the most important point, they are not roguelikes.
Roguelike means every time you die you start over from level one but with some key differences each time, for example the map could change, the enemies are different, the items you found too can be completely different than the last time you played. And that gives roguelikes very high amounts of replay value. Meaning that you could play them for months and still feel them fresh.
While Grimvalor and Castlevania have excellent exploring mechanics, completing the games could take you from 4 to 8 hours approximately depending if you want to finish the games at 100% finding every item and secret or just going trough the linear story and kill the final bosses.
Sorry for the long post, just hoping it helps you, and here is another truly fun roguelike game like Dead Cells.

And it's on sale for $1.50, so you should grab it now if you like.
Linkme: Wayward Souls
One of my all time favorite rouglikes. 3 unlockable classes, and you start with 3 basic classes. No ads or iaps. I think it's a premium game but worth the money. Linear story, but procedurally generated levels. Some loot and upgrades that only stay with you during your runs, some that can stick with your character for the entirety of the game.
Edit: since I cant figure out the linkme bot...

Wayward Souls
Not free. Don't remember price I think it was $5 when I got it. I haven't played Solomon's Keep but I peeped some screenshots and this looks similar.
Super fun roguelike with unlockable classes and permanent upgrade progression. No ads or IAP after purchase. Rewarding combat where you can learn to defeat anything.
Not too similar, but you might also like Crashlands. By far the best Android game I've ever played. Also features PC/Android cross-saves.
Trailer here: https://youtu.be/gbgFkrKvYpU
Wayward souls is pretty amazing. Challenging and with tons of replayability, also has good music.
Best played with a Gamepad but the touch screen controls are really good.
or you can get Drastic, it's an nds emulator but a damn fine one
While not exactly a port or very popular (ported from Android to Windows), I LOVE Wayward Souls. Hands down probably the best mobile game I've ever played.
It has a decent story and a beautiful soundtrack and atmosphere (highly recommend playing it with headphones). It's also a roguelike and it can be rather "hard to learn, harder to master" but that's exactly why I love it - you always discover new things you can do every few games or so which makes the replay value for this game very high!
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.noodlecake.waywardsouls
It's not a platformer like Rogue Legacy, but you may like Wayward Souls. You can unlock up to six classes by playing. The dungeons are mostly randomly generated. You find forges that upgrade or change your abilities. When you die, you start over. There's some progression by using gold you find to permanently upgrade the character abilities.
You might also like Downwell
If you tried Mage Gauntlet, what about Wayward Souls?
It is a fun action RPG / hack and slash game. Maybe a bit more like Secret of Mana combat than SNES Zelda combat.
You start with three different characters to choose from. Play until you die. Depending on how far you got, you unlock new characters, up to six total. Use the gold find to upgrade abilities. Premium game, no ads, no IAP.
Also, if you like action RPG hack and slash games, you'd probably like Crashlands.
Wayward Souls. Fantastically well made hack & slash dungeon crawl that plays (and looks) similarly to Secret of Mana. It has a bunch of different characters/playstyles and randomly generated dungeons.
It's also very difficult. You progress by collecting gold and when you die you can use that gold to purchase new abilities for your character that make you more powerful and allow you to go a little deeper in the dungeons.
Well worth a purchase, and it has zero IAPs, although there are some cosmetic items (hats) that you can collect...lol, jk you get access to all the hats when you purchase the game (you have to find them in the dungeons, they're rare drops).
Has no one mentioned Wayward Souls yet? /r/waywardsouls https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.noodlecake.waywardsouls&hl=en
It's basically a roguelike with three initial classes, and you unlock the other three by beating the bronze, silver and gold dungeons respectively. Each class is quite unique in tactics and playstyle. I've gotten a lot of hours out of it so far and I still haven't unlocked the sixth character.
Its a rouguelike game. I would like to try it. I love 'Wayward Souls' on my android phone. If its like that then I would play the shit out of this game.
edit: I just saw that TB has recommended it as well. So, yeah!
It's a mixture of things:
With all that being said, quality games do exist, but they are mainly made by indie developers who do it for the love of gamemaking, rather than a fat paycheck (games like Wayward Souls spring to mind). But their goals are far different from those of the big corporations and sadly, those types of developers are far and few between.
This is the final version of my list of recommended games :) i apologise if this came across as spammy, but i was looking for feedback to make it amazing.
Games (No particular order) | Quick review from my perspective and experience |
---|---|
Wayward souls. | The most challenging and fun game i have played in a while, where skill and a bit of luck go hand in hand. |
Knights of pen and paper +1. | Charming, simple, deep and complex. A bit too grindy sometimes but never a boring moment with this game. |
Final Fantasy VI. | Childhood favourite and a proper mobile adaptation, for the best nostalgia trip a SNES emulator would work just fine, but the QOL additions of this version make up for it. |
Chrono Trigger. | Another childhood favourite like the previous game, i recommend playing this one with a gamepad. |
Kingdom rush vengeance. | A proper sequel to the previous games but IAPs are way too OP for my liking (looking at you doomtank), still challenging and super fun to play but not unbeatable or frustrating, on the downside, it's a bit too short, but the strong replayabilty makes up for it. |
Iron marines. | One of a kind, truly a fresh game with StarCraft notes here and there. |
Crashlands. | No review needed, just buy and thank me later, think about Don't Starve but in space. |
Sonic the hedgehog 2. | Gotta go fast! Definitely a classic game. |
Fancy pants adventures. | Anyone from 2008? Armorgames era? When i wasn't playing RuneScape i was playing this on my Dad's PC. |
Metal slug 3. | The best game to play with a gamepad, somehow the 3rd game of any franchise tends to the best one and this is no exception. |
Phoenix Wright - Spirit of justice. | If you're into visual novels and pointy words staggering through your heart, then this is a no brainer, great music, visuals and story. Is lacking some Cases from the DS Version however. |
Galaxy on Fire 2. | This one bring back fond memories of the good old Java Days, when everyone i knew had this phone, also the first Galaxy on Fire game was the absolute best at the moment, and fortunately that legacy carried over in GOF2, this game is definitely a must play if you like Open World Space Exploration games. |
RuneScape 3 Mobile - Closed beta At the moment. | The game itself is a port from the Desktop version, it feels a bit cluttered at times (even on larger phones) but runs surprisingly smooth, recent bug fixes has made it quite playable now, but some FPS drops happen when too much particles are on the screen, which may be taxing for your device. |
DraStic DS Emulator. | Honestly the best NDS emulator on the store, I use it to play the PMD Games and it's an absolute blast, i cannot recommend it enough. |
Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath. | I still can't believe how good the controls are on this game, besides, the nostalgia is super strong with this one, definitely a gem of a game you should play at least once in your lifetime. |
Bonus Links | RuneScape classic soundtrack & RuneScape orchestral soundtrack if you liked this iconic Game OST. |
Poweramp music player | You know it folks, this one does not need an explanation, one of the best music players in the store. |
PokeType-Dex | If you play Pokémon Competitively, this is an essential app for you, it even has a battle simulator (BETA) and a teambuilder, overall the perfect Pokémon Companion App for the competitive player. |
Simple Gallery | One of the best, if not the best, photo galleries out there, really really worth it. |

I am very very very picky with my games, I haven't updated the list but Stardew Valley will definitely be in that list, i just need to get the moolah first :p
Here's some games that are probably considered action RPGs and are kind of like Soul Knight. Heavy on the action, light on the RPG - which usually just consists of weapons, spells, and maybe leveling up.
Wayward Souls. Premium, no ads, no IAP. Excellent game. Multiple classes and semi randomized dungeons.
bitDungeon. Premium, no ads, no IAP. there's also a sequel of this. Note: the sequel ran horribly on my newer phone and dev still hasn't update it. So refund the sequel if it runs choppy.
Heroes of Loot Premium, no ads, no IAP. There's also free version with ads and also a sequel.
Quadropus Rampage. Free with ads and IAP.
This one is more of an open area, not dungeon, and has crafting:
Crashlands. Premium, no ads, no IAP.

HiWayward Souls is a top choice for sure. Such a fun rogue like game and I enjoy the stat progression aspect. Just wish I could play in portait.
Other must plays: Kingdom, Meteorfall, Downwell, Crashlands
Games to watch Beat cop, Backfire, Troll patrol, Card crusade, Modest kind

I spend most of my time in Clash Royale, and I only added the last 3 games since browsing a similar thread last week :)
Here are a couple, although neither of them are as deep or complex as something like Grim Dawn or Diablo.
Wayward Souls is a fun action RPG / hack and slash game. The fighting reminds me quite a bit of Secret of Mana for the SNES.
You start with three different characters to choose from. Each character has a regular attack, a charged attack, and a couple spells/abilities that require items that drop from monsters and chests. The game uses a virtual control pad, so imagine sliding your left thumb around to move and tapping or swiping or your right thumb to attack and cast spells. It works pretty well after you get used to spell/ability system.
The game is play until you die. When you die, you reset but keep the gold which you use to upgrade abilities. Depending on how far you got, you unlock new characters, three more for six total.
The levels are mostly randomly generated, so there is a decent amount of replay without it getting too stale. There is a waypoint system you can use to after you defeat a boss. You find shrines and potions that buff you. The are forges that let you optionally change your items/abilities. Like maybe you play as a warrior and find a forge to turn your shield into a larger shield that blocks more, but makes you move slower. Or you replace your sword with an axe that turns your charged sweeping attack into a whirlwind.
Premium game, no ads, no IAP.
Another one is Crashlands. This is more of a crafting action RPG / hack and slash game. You run around gathering items and killing monsters to get items to build a base and craft gear.
The controls are tap to move. You tap near a monster and you run up and auto attack, you don't repeatedly tap to attack. You win the fights by watching for the enemy attacks and timing your movements to dodge. Tap the bottom row to use items and consumables. The beta has support for a physical controller, so that will be in the game soon if it isn't already.
There is a lot of game play here. The different areas you go to are randomly generated maps so you can replay and get a slightly different experience. You can defeat monsters and get eggs you can hatch into pets that follow you around and help you fight. One common complaint you'll read is the game gets repetitive. You reach the next area and find yourself building yet another crafting station. I still had a good time playing this and beat the last boss. I gathered a lot of the pets too, but gave up on upgrading every single one. There was recently a new area added in for free that I haven't tried out yet.
Premium game, no ads, no IAP. Has a cloud save system that lets you play the game on multiple systems, but you'd need to also purchase the PC version on Steam if you wanted to also play it there.
edit: both of these are offline games. The Crashlands cloud save uses an internet connection, but it is optional and you can just use a local save.

Wayward Souls is currently on sale, I believe.
Have you tried Wayward Souls?
Wayward Souls (RocketCat, ported by Noodlecake for Android) is a roguelike that's much more action-oriented. The RPG elements are limited to buying character upgrades between runs with in-game earned gold, selecting from a choice of randomized weapons while playing, and picking collectible cosmetic hats to wear. All movement and attacks are done via taps and swipes. Each character has two different tap attacks, and most have two different swipe attacks as well.
It'll probably be a pretty long game, with 6 characters (3 starter, 3 unlocked via gameplay) who have individual progress through 4 sequential story dungeons and 2 optional challenge dungeons. It's quite tough to get through them all as each new area ramps up the difficulty and it takes a while to adjust. But IMHO it does feel pretty rewarding to finally beat them after a long string of frustrating failures. (There are also official cheat codes available to unlock the various areas and extra characters if you get really stuck or somehow lose your progress due to a glitch.)
Plus, the devs have been working on porting it to PC with lots of added content, and are planning to backport a lot of the new stuff to mobile once that's done, though I wouldn't expect that to happen anytime soon. But there is plenty of replay value already with randomly added bonus story encounters and mini-bosses and treasure mazes which have a chance of showing up on any given run.
Anyway, the subreddit for it is /r/waywardsouls and if you're interested, you can have a look at how the tap and swipe moves work in assorted YouTube videos of people playing the tutorial which is a mini-story in itself. I recommend the one from Touch Arcade's preview stream and also the Giant Bomb Quick Look for a decent look at the gameplay of the initial characters without too many spoilers for the storyline.

I spend most of my time in Clash Royale, and I only added the last 3 games since browsing this thread :)
Had this been on Nintendo 15 years ago, it would have been a classic
I found Wayward Soul handled exceptionally well.
