Faeria is gone from the playstore for now, can't find it, but do try the pc version
Edit: Found Faeria, wasn't compatible with my device it seems: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=be.abrakam.faeria
I think they do have one (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=be.abrakam.faeria&hl=en) though it says incompatible with my android devices. I personally play it on an iPad. A phone version would be great though I worry about screen real estate with the board.
I know what you mean about heaven strike, something bored me to tears too.
Check out Faearia, recently updated for phones, very tactical despite the ccg aspect. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=be.abrakam.faeria
For truly free and open with tons of room for experimentation and creativity, lightweight download, while still having plenty of great campaign mode content, works quite well on phones, check out Age of Fantasy.
Lastly another hefty download - Legends of Callasia. It is tactical but also Risk like, and Civ like. While you are at it take note of the Dev's upcoming follow-up game.

I'm from South Africa and can install. Don't know if it is a mistake, but I'm certainly not going to complain. Loved playing the beta version. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=be.abrakam.faeria

~~I think they are still testing it, they don't want to do a wide release. Not sure exactly where all it is available, so it might be available to you. I'm actually in the U.S. but I cheat by going to the store on my PC browser, it lets you remote install wherever you are... haha.~~
~~Here's the Faeria link on browser play store~~
Edit
Ah, you were asking why I recommend the game. I feel like it has a lot more depth than HS as well as a good bit less RNG. The game is played on a hex board, and the players build the board as the game goes on, so each game is really different and it opens up a lot of interesting strategic choices. Because creatures have positions on a board, the abilities seem more diverse than with other card games. The "mana" in the game (called faeria) also stores instead of getting lost at the end of your turn, so the playstyle is very different from HS in that way and it is a bit slower paced. It does all of this while still being pretty easy to learn and pick up.
There are also no classes. There are 4 colors in the game, sort of like MTG, and you can mix multiple colors into a deck to get come interesting combos (at the cost of making it more difficult to field your creatures and spells with multi-colored decks). The hex lands that you build are associated with a color, and you've got to have a certain number of lands of a color to field certain creatures (no colored mana like in MTG).
So yeah, it REALLY scratched the strategic itch that HS was seriously lacking for me. HS is easier to pick up and play a quick round with, Faeria takes a bit more mental investment for each match, so it's not going to appeal to everyone.
This is the correct link for Faeria - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=be.abrakam.faeria
No. Read the "reviews"

There are currently three games I've got saved in my wishlist, that the play store tells me are not available in my country. It's been like that for a while for all three of these. Does anyone know if these are eventually coming to the US?
It is on the store... https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=be.abrakam.faeria&hl=en
I'm guessing you don't have a tablet, which I think may be a requirement for this game.
Isn't Faeria still there? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=be.abrakam.faeria
I'm able to play just fine using WiFi on my LG G4.
