If you're one Android, I certainly recommend https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ru.orangesoftware.financisto
I use it to track every transaction and see how much I've spent in different categories
Or use an app. I have been using financisto for years. It has a nice widget that helps you enter transactions quickly from your phone's home menu.

I use Financisto Android app (free) to track my expenses - manually enter and categorise. Also allows me to more easily make decisions on the go.
Then put a monthly summary on Google sheets for analysis and ease of comparison.
I am currently using Financisto.
Pros:
Cons:
I tried other apps but some of them were too complicated or didn't have the features I was looking for.
To give you some idea, I know how much I spend in each category (food, tax, house, ...) and I also can control savings. So far I could control my expenses and save per month a decent amount.
I use an app called financisto on Android and categorise transactions, then summarise this on Google sheets each month and calculate savings.
I too, like another poster, use the pots method - high interest regular saver for car costs, a separate savings account for saving for gifts/presents, and use Starling for saving for other smaller yearly costs. All this goes out at the start of the month.
This means, all going well, my savings targets can be met.
I use Financisto: play store link. I have set up categories for typical transactions so spending can be easily entered and tracked on the go. I then take a summary of this data and put it on a spreadsheet for me to analyse as I see fit.
Works well for me. Been using the app for ages now.
I believe Financisto may be what you're looking for. Can also do a ton of other stuff. BU to cloud, receipt images, account balance recording.
You might not care much about it, but if you'd like an open source application for Android, I've used this one for a while and wouldn't change.
Hi guys. Any apps like Financisto?
I like the app but it hasn't been updated for sometime now.
Financisto maybe?
I use Financisto, but it may not meet a 'pleasant appearance' criteria. Very functional though.
