I reached the same point as you and have been using Ghostery Browser by the same team that does the Ghostery Chrome extension for desktop. It's fast, lightweight and blocks trackers. Only downside is the lack of chrome sync features but its worth it for my use. Occasionally I use chrome for something I need to use the sync features for.
Try Ghostery. Google thinks it's Firefox, so I think it's essentially the Firefox browser with ad-blocking and tracker-blocking.

I do not personally have an Android, but I know Ghostery makes a browser for the platform. Cannot comment on how well it works.
I've been a fan of Ghostery since my Galaxy S5 days, pretty happy with it in terms of ad blocking. Granted, it doesn't work well with sites that create a pop-up on your first click / press, but other than that, I like it
Have you tried other browsers? You got Firefox, Opera, and Dolphin, among others. Ghostery even launched its own browser recently.
I'm not suggesting that you make a full switch -- I'd just try running a different browser so that you could establish a basis of comparison.
I'd use Ghostery. Swear by it on desktop, assume it's excellent on Android as well.
I use Ghostery on my mobile. Majority of ads are gone.
Ghostery also has one and is a very good mobile app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ghostery.android.ghostery

Fennec is just firefox for the f droid store
"Mull is kinda sorta Tor Browser Android, but without routing over Tor network and upstream Firefox. It enables many features upstreamed by the Tor Uplift project through @arkenfox and @pyllyukko's user.js projects. It was originally created as builds of the patchset from bug 1419581." https://github.com/Divested-Mobile/mull
"Ghostery Privacy Browser integrates the powerful ad blocking and tracker protection of the Ghostery 8 control panel with improved web browser functionalities. We’ve cut out extra bloating for you - so all you need to think about is which site you want to visit next." But i don't believe ghostery is all that private. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ghostery.android.ghostery&hl=en_GB
TOR is just TOR mobile.

"Iceraven Browser is a web browser for Android, based on Mozilla's Fenix version of Firefox, GeckoView and Mozilla Android Components. Our goal is to be a close fork of the new Firefox for Android that seeks to provide users with more options, more opportunities to customize (including a broad extension library), and more information about the pages they visit and how their browsers are interacting with those pages." https://github.com/fork-maintainers/iceraven-browser
Hope that helps. I haven't actually looked properly at the majority of these or how safe they are.
Alternative is Ghostery Privacy Browser https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ghostery.android.ghostery&hl=en
Give Ghostery a try
A page did that to me the other day somewhere and I finally broke down and installed the ghostery browser.

I highly recommend Ghostery and Dolphin Zero. Both are privacy focused browsers. Ghostery does a great job at blocking scripts, ads, and other behaviour data trackers. Dolphin Zero just clears all caches and history when you exit.
