There are some handy phone apps, will get you same info in half the time. If on an Android phone, this one, is one of many.
Helpful way around this is the Journey Planner app. Helps to manage the three major transport links in Dublin and gives you expected prices for your trip:

You can also try the Dublin Bus app to check bus routes, live data for some stops, etc. while on the go. There should also be an app called Journey Planner and that includes all public transports. Hope it might help you. For places to rent, I guess you already know the site daft.ie
Edit1: Here is the app link for android, not sure for apple/ios: Journey Planner Ireland https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mdv.IrelandCompanion
It can be done with a visitor's Leap Card, between the buses, Luas, and Dart the Dublin area is easy to get around. As someone mentioned you can do tours out of Dublin. There is also a fairly good bus and train system further out.
