Back again to post about our app Karkoona, which allows you to send prefab messages to other Karkoona users by searching for their license plates.
Imagine being able to inform that poor sod who forgot his car lights on that he left them on - he won't be back to the nasty surprise of a dead battery!
Or imagine being informed yourself that your tire is flat and that you should probably pull over and use that spare one you have!

It looks like there was an app called Karkoona that meant to do what you talk about, but it just didn't take off. Also, I'm not sure how thrilled I am to input my license plate just to use the app.

Karkoona is an app we've been working on for quite some time. It allows you to search and message other vehicle owners by their license plates, when you want to contact them, for whatever reason.
Maybe they have a flat tire but they still haven't realized it. Send them a message and let them know. Maybe you forgot your car lights on and your battery will be dead by the time you get back to your car. It doesn't have to be like that: another Karkoona user can search for your license plates and send you a push notification on your phone!
All messages are prefab so there won't be swearing and abuse. It's super easy to register and we have a great, modern web app and a Material Design-infuenced Android app that super easy to use!

Hi there! I first introduced our platform and Android app Karkoona last week. Karkoona allows you to contact other drivers by searching for their license plates and sending them prefab messages (for various reasons we chose to go with prefab messages) or even directly, after both parties agree to a direct exchange.
We went for privacy, safety, respect and some lighthearted humor. That does not mean we are not serious about this: we really are.
Today's update introduces A LOT of bugfixes (we just launched last week so we got a lot of non-beta feedback). We're proudly Android-first (Pushbullet, you're our heroes) so an iOS app is planned "for the future". Exactly when we can't say. When it's done is the best we can give. :)

Our app Karkoona allows you to send messages to other vehicle owners by searching for their license plates!
Imagine forgetting your car lights on and getting a message by someone else letting you know that you better get back and turn them off if you're not some sort of dead battery fetishist.
Or you letting someone else know that they are driving around in with a flat tire, saving their life in the process and becoming their hero forever!
And so on!
Registration is easy, website is super-lovely, the app even more so (I'm the Android dev, so... :p ) and you get quite a lot of functionality, especially as users increase, so please spread the word if you like the idea!

An app that lets you tell a car owner if their vehicle is having an issue. Great idea, wish more people used it.
Karkoona lets you communicate with other vehicle owners by searching for their license plates! Just search for their license plates and send a message from a variety of prefab messages that cover a lot of cases:
- Did someone forget their car lights on?
- Did they block your exit?
- Are they driving around with a flat tire?
Notify them (or be notified yourself)!
This week's update brings an awesome new feature: Unregistered Messaging! You can now send a message to someone's plates even if they are not registered on Karkoona. They won't receive it until they register but it will attach any upvotes or downvotes that the message contains to their license plates and they will be brought up when their license plates are searched! Know who you're dealing with!

Today, I am very excited to announce a new app/web app/service we have been working on for the past two years! It is called Karkoona and it allows you to contact vehicle owners by searching for their license plates - as long as the other vehicle owner is registered to Karkoona, you can send them a message!
We just launched this week at the Web Summit 2015 at Dublin and we were surprised by the response: tens of people (way more than we expected, honestly) stopped at our booth and told us how excited are by this.
While we are really happy about this, some people expressed some (understandable) concerns about safety and anti-texting laws so we want to be clear about something: most of the (pre-made, so simply click-and-send) messages you can send are for parked cars and parking violations / help / information. Moreover, you can't start swearing at other people (or get sweared at) since the messages are pre-made. We have a Scolding category with some lighthearted messages mostly inspired by memes but that's it. We also reveal NO personal info (other than the plates, of course but you had already seen those!). Finally, some people were disappointed that you can't send your own custom messages to other people but we always thought that this was unsafe and even dangerous/creepy if people start swearing or stalking/spamming each other. If you must contact someone directly, you have to explicitly ask for it and the other vehicle owner has to decide to contact you back, if and when they want. Until then, no direct contact can take place.
With these out of the way, let me go over the good stuff! Positive messages have upvotes associated with them and negatice messages have downvotes associated with them. Some messages are neutral (eg. "You forgot your pet in the car" or "You have a flat tire"). Based on your number of upvotes and downvotes, we have a nice badge system with some funny/cute badges you can be awarded.
You can also set a status for your vehicle, such as "For sale" so that when other people search for you they can contact you. Other ways to use it would be to set it to "Be right back" etc if you have blocked some other person's car. The possibilities, as they say, are endless.
As soon as we get a decent amount of users (remember, we just launched) we are planning on adding more features, like a city-wide theft alert, so that if your vehicle gets stolen you will be able send a message with its description and license plates to other users. We are also looking into adding local hubs for cities worldwide so you can make location-based announcements (for anything, including car- and traffic- related stuff).
For the time being we have a web app and an Android app (all four of us are huge Android enthusiasts so that was bound to happen) with an iOS app planned "for sometime in the future" (nice to be on the winning side of this for once, right? :D j/k ).
You can only register at some countries for the time being but if you want your country added, please let us know and we'll add it. We're pretty fast about this, it should only take a week at most!

Our app Karkoona allows you to search for vehicles through their license plates and then send prefab messages to those vehicles' owners!
Until recently, this only worked between registered users but since last week or so, if you are registered to Karkoona you can also attach messages to license plates whose owners haven't registered yet. The owners won't receive the messages, obviously (since we have no way of contacting them) but any upvotes or downvotes that are contained within the messages will be associated with their license plates and will be visible when searched here:

We went for simplicity, with a frictionless interface (both on Android and the web app), nice Material Design-inspired assets and we have really tried to respect you privacy (only an e-mail, your license plates and your country of registration are required).
"What would I use it for?" I hear you say. Some examples include sending a message to someone who is driving around with a flat tire and hasn't realized it yet or receiving a message from someone else that you forgot your car lights on. There are lots of other cases that you could use Karkoona in!
