I personally use this app. While I'm doing the lessons, I have a pen and paper and I copy down the characters, pinyin and translation of the sentences and phrases.
I also have a pinyin keyboard because the app calls for input of Chinese characters sometimes.
I'm still working on finding a tutor. Until then, just practice and learn at least a new word each day.
I use this app (Chinese Skill)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.chineseskill
I had zero prior knowledge of reading Chinese. This app is really easy and fun to use. In less than a week I can recognise people words, several verbs, colors, food, numbers, days of the week etc. Really cool!
I found Rosetta kind of boring, and dropped it after one week. Voice recognition was buggy too. I'm glad I didn't buy it. I've never tried ChinesePod, so can't talk about it. But I've tried Pimsleur and it was even more boring. They were okay to listen on long train journeys to help me sleep, but I don't think any of these is worth the money. This is just my opinion, I know people who have enjoyed Rosetta, but it just didn't work for me.
Here are my suggestions:
www.memrise.com This is my favorite site ever. I'm still amazed of how much I've have learnt already, and I'm enjoying it a lot. This is a nice starting point: http://www.memrise.com/course/541/hsk-level-1-introductory-mandarin-with-audio/
www.yoyochinese.com I've recently finished the beginner's course and began with intermediate. You can check some free lessons on Youtube. It has a lot of material, well scheduled courses, clear explanations, street interviews,... they are now releasing a new course on characters, which seems very interesting. I feel Yangyang is like a tutor. The team is very helpful and have always answered my questions very quickly.
www.pleco.com Pleco dictionary is a must.

ChineseSkill App: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.chineseskill
Here's a resources list: http://chinese.stackexchange.com/questions/1120/resources-for-learning-mandarin-chinese
There are a looot of free resources, blogs, books, podcasts, radios, and also professional/semi-professional/amateur courses on Youtube, some better than others, but I've found really interesting, helpful and entertaining stuff there. For example:
https://www.youtube.com/user/DongyuOfficial/playlists https://www.youtube.com/user/youkuChinese/playlists
Hope this helps. Good luck!
There's an app similar to Duolingo you can use in the meantime.

There's an amazing app I've been using. Just a 5 minute lesson everyday and I've been progressing real fast.
If you have access to an Android or iOS device then I'd recommend the free ChineseSkill app. It's a complete Chinese course up to HSK4 and has free practice games built in.

https://apps.apple.com/us/app/learn-chinese-chineseskill/id777111034
If you need to use a web site, Duolingo.com has an ad supported Chinese course that's pretty good for a beginner, but I'd recommend supplementing it with another free course if you can.
There are also loads of free learning resources on YouTube, and several good free flashcard decks for Anki, but I'd recommend starting with ChineseSkill and Duolingo before picking up those, they worked really well for me to start with.
Assuming you mean how to pronounce all the sounds represented by pinyin, try this playlist from Yoyo Chinese:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q2hrlAGewvY&list=PLioS_-8erSI1B8dEErLr28sdgsHMui1d-
And the free chart that goes with it:
And this compilation video from Chinese Class 101 with the sounds and pronunciation explained in a different way:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oCQ2k85MUyc
The Free ChineseSkill app also has an 'Alphabet' section for listening to all the initials and vowels in pinyin and free practice games where you match sounds to pinyin:

https://apps.apple.com/us/app/learn-chinese-chineseskill/id777111034
Hope those help!
If you have android, Learn Chinese is free and has that feature. They also have ton's of learning games which might help too?
This is what I use, but I'm a beginner so it might not fit everybody:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.chineseskill
ChineseSkill on the Android Play store.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.chineseskill
It's what I use. App is the best out there of it's kind.
/u/Sapiogram /u/UberMcwinsauce /u/Supreme_panda_god I kinda want you all to see this - this https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.chineseskill is a really decent Mandarin Duolingo clone for mobile and frankly I really don't buy the "bad platform" excuse. Using an ime or pinyin>Han keyboard on mobile isn't really that hard, and learning characters aren't much more complicated than learning English words anyways. Although I do suggest - honestly, with any Duolingo thing as well - reading a bit about orthography (and grammar) online anyways so you know how to decompose characters and make pneumonics for yourself.
