From what I have seen HM/AF relationships are dysfunctional. Especially if the AF is a FOB. Regarding the police issue, no one is arguing that legitimate criminals shouldn't be persecuted, but often times a black/dark mixed person are viewed as more "inherently criminal" as opposed to a whiter person. This translates to those with darker features being suspected of wrongdoing much more often than their lighter counterparts.
Aww I wish I knew more. I had a Korean friend in high school who transferred from Argentina. On another tangent, I had a Japanese friend that's family was from Peru (..or maybe it was Brazil?) because there's a lot of Japanese in South America/Mexico too. Sadly, I think a lot of it has to do with displacement from war/tumultuous governments, but I know that many Koreans/Japanese moved for business opportunities or for government programs. I think for Koreans in Argentina, there may have been a religious aspect as well, but I don't think it was a driving force at all (I only say this because my Korean Argentinian friend had a pastor father who was really active with the community there.)

Do you know what pinyin is? It's basically system that PRC China came up with (there are lots of systems around), that uses Roman letters (ABC's) to represent Chinese characters. ie Beijing, Nanjing, Shanghai etc. Peking and Nanking was Beijing and Nanjing using a different Romanization system.
There are word processors and keyboard entry software that lets you use standard QWERTY keyboard to enter pinyin, and then it converts into Chinese. Basically, type in Beijing and get 北京.
If you're asking how cuz you want to do it, well, there's Chinese word processor like NJStar, or you can use Google Pinyin Input, there are versions for Windows, Android etc. lets you toggle your keyboard back and forth between English and pinyin Chinese input.
NJStar is nice because you can hover over your Chinese text and get pop-up pinyin, definition and other info. It's pretty helpful if you're trying to learn how to read/write.
So, you could for instance install Google Piyin Input, fire up Microsoft Word, switch to pinyin and start typing Chinese characters. It's a little more involved than that, but thats essentially it. You do need to know Chinese and the pinyin system.

Most likely it never happened in Korea or Japan because they're a subjugated people. Taking the Atlanta Spa Shootings as an example, the shooter denied his actions were racially based. I would suspect that stereotypes toward Asian women played a part in it regardless of what he said. We live in a society and the influence is all around us.

i think hapas might be surprised at how asian men feel. i know a lot of asian guys who would love to have white features. i guess for me, even though i relate to what you're saying, my dad always took an interest in teaching me asian culture as something to be proud of. we'd go to taiwan every year, celebrate new years, etc. additionally, something i've done in college that has been therapeutic has been exploring my asian identity more--meeting more asians, learning about my heritage, etc. i think feeling racial pride as an asian--even if you have to discover it yourself--is one of the important things a HAPA can do. some black men also lack father figures and experience crazy amounts of racism, but some of them are able to navigate out of it by racial self-pride and education (i.e. "The Autobiography of Malcolm X, also recommend its Asian cultural equivalent, Eddie Huang's "Fresh Off The Boat").

Dunno why Asian guys paint these couples as being such happy lovey dovey people; they're dysfunctional as hell. I don't think anyone here realizes just how fickle women are and marriage essentially means very little in terms of everlasting devotion to ones partner. While my mother wasn't cheating on my dad it was obvious looking back at my baby pictures that she hated him as soon as my brother and I were born. He just completely starts vanishing from photographs.
Go on Facebook and just search randomly for like normal Taiwanese or Hong Kong couples with kids. Look at their body language. It becomes fairly easy to tell the difference between love and something else just by seeing couples that actually love each other.

He was bullied as a kid, but it wasn't too bad. In fact his experiences being bullied as a kid mirror my own experiences but I was called blatant racial slurs. I'm not throwing myself a pity party, but to be fair his childhood seems fairly normal for any kid who has been bullied. I don't think his experiences being bullied were so severe that that was the main reason he went crazy. He was called some homophobic slurs before though, and I wonder if that spurned his obsession with sex. He did mention in the writing his obsession with sex began after he caught a kid watching porn. He didn't seem to mature past middle school, and he held on his resentment. It was when he was in high school when he began having revenge fantasies. He attended an alternative high school. He suffered from a lot of social anxiety, and I think his obsession with getting laid didn't help him out at all. Still I think it was his inability to communicate with people well that was his main issue growing up, more so than being bullied. I'm a talkative person, and I at least have the social skills to carry on conversations. However Elliot didn't have that ability to carry on full conversations well. In one of the interviews of people who knew Elliot Rodger said he barely spoke to anyone, and only muttered a few words after an incident where he threatened to push girls off a ledge at a party. He ended up getting beaten up ,and he lied about his role in instigating the fight. It was this incident that set in motion is plan for the mass murder. The best thing is to read his manifesto, and other online postings. It gives some clues to his psychological profile but obviously since none of us never knew him its hard to make judgments.

Hey, there's a podcast called Radiant Mix created by Hope McGrath which touched on this in an episode with Tetsuro Miyazaki about being hāfu, both in Japan and internationally.

The problem is that half of us aren't yet 18 years old and the other half who are act like unweaned little boys and girls in regards to self-respect, white worship, and living life with a purpose. It kind of sucks trying to lift myself up all on my own and would be nice to casually encounter a stranger in real life who has self-respect, so that I may respect him/her.

I don't think you see the bigger problem of Asian men representation in western society. It was true the original writer form ejinsight was shortsighted/wrong, but that was one reporter opinion form a small new agency. He didn't represent Hong Kong men as a whole ,there was no opinion poll, interviews or survey. It was just this one guy. Why do Hong Kong Men/asian men have as a responsibility for his actions. This article was so critical of Hong Kong Men/Asian men , and those interviewee responses were harsh . The way it was written made is sound like facts rather than opinions. Isn't it also suspicious that the news agency ejinsight ,is only for local Hongkonger ranked 16724 and ranked gobaly 178765 with 263k hits daily. Would get a qz article ranked 73 in US and 2,204 globaly with 23 millions hits daily. To me it just shows that western media takes any chance to push it's anti Asian men, pro western narrative.

I actually made this archive of all the posts on /r/hapas. Quite interesting to see how the sub has changed over the years - and seeing its progress in its infancy. Like asian men, no one really cares about black women. Asians do prefer whites , but the 1% with white women is pretty good.If you look at intermarriage rates, a huge percent of latino men are with white women. Also, if you go on match.com, you'll see that the preferences that women state are invariably both white and hispanic andnever asian or black. I do think darker hispanics struggle though.
I have had plenty of friends and relatives who didn't have a serious boyfriend/girlfriend/spouse in their late twenties/early thirties. Eventually some of them found someone more towards their mid-thirties and I still think the rest will find someone in due time. A couple of them have even frozen their eggs after realizing it may take a bit longer to find the one.
Dating apps help a lot, even though they require a lot of time and effort on the way to finding someone you actually like and who will reciprocate the feeling. It also sounds like you have difficulty making friends in general in your current area (something I can relate too, as well). You can try meetup.com to find some people outside of work. Again, like online dating, the process sometimes feels unnatural and it could take awhile to find someone you really mesh with but I would really start from building a friendship with a couple people -- and then pursuing the dating stuff more. If you want to find someone with similar values as you, you could also try a church group but I'm not sure how religious you are.
Just as a side anecdote, my friend met her friend-turned-now-serious boyfriend on reddit after never having a boyfriend during her teens and twenties, so you could even find someone here!
Well, I can give you my thoughts, but I don't speak for everyone. I barely knew any other part-Asians when I was growing up, but I hear over 10% of children in California are now mixed-race, so maybe life won't be so difficult for your kid. (Depending on where you live)
I don't know how you're going to force him to be interested in Chinese culture if he has no natural inclination. In my case, my white parent was a native English speaker, but he took Korean courses to advanced level and was somewhat familiar with the culture. I think as people get older they revert to what makes them comfortable, so I saw him show less of an interest in Korean culture as he got older. I didn't mind that much--I got sufficient exposure to the culture through other family.
Some of the other people here are fear-mongering about Asian fetishes. Maybe their parents had bad relationships. There's no reason to fixate on that just because you're an Asian woman. That's like saying you might get raped every time you go outside.

I see, I haven't really read any actual books on the subject of being hapa/asian in the US. But I remember vividly during middle school, I stumbled upon this comic book in the library. It is surprising mature for a children's book and deals with identity, self-hate, racism, bullying, emasculation of Asian men, which I think hapa males can relate as well.

Yep... I'd say you got about a 1/3 odds, depending on location, political views, empathy, cultural respect. You get those down, and there's a very high chance your kid will be fine. Get's to the heart of what you want. No "you're so progressive" fluff... just a nice distilled "what do I do with my biracial kid" book.

Its about angry hapas who feel discriminated against. Its supposed to be set in Harlem, which I think is silly, since the writer really doesn't seem to know much about Harlem's or America's culture. I tried reading it, its not all that good, and I couldn't finish the first volume.

That one (of like the three hapa-specific books) When Half is Whole covered an incident very similar to this w/ an Okinawan Hapa talking to the author (also hapa), and he's just soooo mesmerized with coming to America, finding dad, and finally being free of being ostracized in Okinawa... and ofc, felt bad for him in it, but it was just too ironic that he didn't see his own grass-is-greener mentality when he's dreaming of finding a foreign soldier who abandoned him. His mom is way more on point with this.

As far as I know, this is correct. There is research to suggest that children who are exposed to pets, dirt, germs are healthier and less likely to have allergies. I read a book on this a few years ago, it's a fairly interesting topic - Good Germs, Bad Germs.

I read this book a few years ago and one of the steps before writing is to imagine what opposition the reader could have before buying your product (or accepting your conclusion) and address it in the main text in descending order from most to least important.
