I uploaded this level and another one I made rather quickly. The first one is the one you see in the image, but after my friend dicked around in it. You get some pretty chk chk diamond armor, lots of TNT, eggs, arrows and stuff to fuck around with. Also, if you need to get across the lava, just dump out a bucket of water, let it disperse a little, then pick it back up Boom. Instant circle of obsidian.
The other one is a bit more of a bizarre switch. You spawn inside the nether, inside the real world, but without any ties to the real world. You are totally on your own. SOLJWF.
And then the other one is the root that I used to create the nether from the first one.
Here's what you do to avoid the SOLJWF situation in the second map: When you have your virgin map, the one you're going to insert hell into, keep moving in any one direction until you've loaded several chunks. Then, when you replace just a few with nether, you'll still have some earth ground to fuck about on.

DVL, like most gimmick distributions eventually do, went the way of the Dodo.
The board is shorting. The Compaq Presario V6000s were recalled by HP for motherboard defects. They used the same boards as the HP Pavilion DV6000 laptops - also recalled. This was known many years ago, yet the laptops have continued to be sold as recently as last year. HP is no longer required by the terms of the class action lawsuit to maintain the page on their website, but I saved it as a PDF before it got removed. They were moving the page frequently, so every time I'd try to print out the "Warranty Enhancement" page for a customer, I'd end up at a dozen or so dead links before finding it. It was easier just to save it as a PDF.

Having taken a undergrad in Biochemistry, I have to say that transitioning from math/physics/computer science to life science is probably much easier than going the other way (personal opinion); which is good news for you:)
The amount of biology you need to know to do bioinformatics varies, and obviously the more you know the better, but at a minimum you need to know the logical connections between the various nodes in the specific area you're working on (i.e.: if you're working on apoptosis, you need to know the various pro- and anti- apoptotic proteins and how, logically, they interact with each other; I refer you to this Review for a much better example than I have provided).
So yeah, coming from computer science, you should have the more difficult part down already (how to program, statistics, modelling, math in general). Keep in mind you won't be working alone either, so your peers who are trained in the life sciences can help you understand, from a biological perspective, how the system works. You just need to be able to figure out how that translates into a logical system and/or what it is they want you to look for.
As for resources for learning by yourself, here is a link to a pdf of a book by Uri Alon, a prominent systems biologist, written as an introduction to systems biology. Yup, that's the full book:P

It's an 18 part series, kind of tough to find the complete set online but definitely worthwhile. It's out there as a zip archive if your google-fu is sharp enough. Chapter 5 - Jnana Yoga is my favorite, the speaker leads the audience though a variety of mental exercises which demonstrate various yogic meditation techniques.
