Reminds me of THIS
Probably sacrilege here but if your work involves opening a lot of packaging/boxes I’d recommend one of these
https://www.amazon.com/Slice-10562-Folding-Utility-Friendly/dp/B07J53NKHW
I got one and it absolutely murders boxes even months later on the same blade. I’ve also saved myself from stitches more than a few times.
With none of these guys being knife guys, I'd consider a cheaper alternative. I could see splurging for your best man and getting them a bugout, but spending around $100+ on each one for a knife that who knows what they will do with (Not that I matters if its their knife.)
I would get them Rat 1 or Rat 2's depending on their comfort levels of carrying one. If you want to spend the money on them, splurge elsewhere like a nice waterbottle filled with Nips (I did Klean Kanteens) and since none of my groomsmen were knife guys either I stuck with Swiss army knives.
That's not to say you couldn't go with some other knife, like a Delica some other equivalent from another company.
I picked myself up one of these https://www.amazon.com/dp/B078ZL8Q99/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_kMwDCbDMFXN03
About 3 months ago and I love it. It combines the utility of a box knife and the blade shape of a regular folder and rolls it into one. As someone who cuts a lot of boxes, but also cuts other things frequently enough at work to need something that does both, this knife is perfect for me. Blade gets dull? Change it out, or since it's got the form factor of a regular blade I can use one of those shitty knife sharpeners that eat the blade steel to squeeze more life out of it.
Introducing the new Benchmade Passout.
Edit: I shouldn't have been surprised by how much clickbaity shit comes up from "most expensive bottle opener."
Drawing the stone too far back too fast, slow down. Get a Japanese rust eraser set off Amazon yellow boxes for a few dollars to blend the scratches. Japanese rust erasers
This idea has been around for awhile now and a quick search brings up a bunch of these types of things.

Amazon link, also contains links to several other similar contraptions.
I've just realized that you can make something similar with a rat skull and lower jaw. It's easy because halves of the jaw are connected with cartilage only.
OK! That's the kind of consensus I was hoping to see. Wish it was assisted open, but can live without that. The only Rat in D2 I can find on Amazon is the Carbon Fiber handle at $62.
What's the realistic difference between D2 and Aus-8 (which is what all the other Rats seem to be)?
EDIT: Nevermind, found this one OD Green D2: https://www.amazon.com/Rat-OD-Green-D2-Steel/dp/B01HSF41MM
Hollywood played a large part:
>In the 1950s, there was great public concern about juvenile delinquency. This concern was exacerbated by popular motion pictures of the day, such as Rebel Without a Cause (1955), Crime in the Streets (1956), 12 Angry Men (1957), and The Delinquents (1957), as well as the very popular Broadway musical West Side Story. These stories included violent scenes featuring the use of automatic knives by fictional delinquents. Partly because of Hollywood’s sensationalism, the public associated the switchblade with the juvenile delinquent, who would flick the knife open at the commencement of a rumble with a rival gang or some other criminal activity. This was an important part the origin of the many statutes imposing special restrictions on switchblades.
That's from Knives and the Second Amendment, by David B. Kopel, a scholarly legal analysis of the subject that is the title of the article.
What the above quote leaves out is that, probably as a result of those movies, switchblades were hugely popular in the years preceding legislative action against their possession: "A Senate judiciary report published in 1958 estimated that more than 1.2 million switchblades were purchased in the United States each year." That's from Paul A. Clark, Criminal Use of Switchblades: Will the Recent Trend Towards Legalization Lead to Bloodshed? (2014) 13 Conn. Pub. Int. L.J. 219, which I've downloaded from Westlaw and uploaded to Scribd for your enjoyment: https://www.scribd.com/doc/251889518/Criminal-Use-of-Switchblades-Will-the-Recent-Trend-Towards-Legalization-Lead-to
Section IV of the Clark article is specifically about why they were banned.
It looks alot like it, but it's actually a knockoff she saw on Amazon while her mom was looking for something. I guess when dad always searches knives and your daughter is really into mermaids, the Amazon recommendations tend to cross over a bit.

This was the design that Dave was considering before deciding on the final design. I've owned both and I gotta say that I do prefer the F3 that he is making now a bit more, but I this one is really nice too. Ergonomically, this one is miles ahead. One of the smoothest knives I've owned too.
Here's a video of the action: https://instagram.com/p/zqDFX1CsYo/
Yes, the graphic is immensely hokey (I have some fun mods planned out for this though). That aside, what every one has said about this knife is absolutely spot on; THE best bang for buck your money can buy. My jaw dropped once I had this in-hand. Solid, simple, smooth, centered, and sharp. A handy 3.1 oz chunk of sharp steel that slides in and out of the pocket with ease. I am very impressed yet again with SRM! Just get one and see for yourself.
I have two more 7010's coming in of various finishes to make some frankenblades with, as well as modifying them for tip up carry, sanding off that heinous laser etch, perhaps sand blasting some, stone-washing others- gonna be rad! Stay tuned for updates.

Seriously. Neanderthals were capable of surprisingly good craftsmanship with extremely limited resources. Much more attentive workmanship than the linked knifemaker manages with 21st century tools.

I own one of these and took it camping once. Unfortunately the instant I started chopping a downed tree for firewood, a big 1 cm chunk of the front corner edge chipped off. I was really disappointed. The vids of it being used on YouTube showed that it withstood all kinds of abuse. Maybe I got a bad one. Havent given up on it yet. Gonna resharpen and take it camping again someday.
I think the Kershaw Scrambler gets overlooked a lot, and I'm not sure why. The G10 handle piece is very nice, and the coating that matches the handle looks great.
It is a cheap Chinese 8Cr13MoV, but all the knives in this thread are that or AUS-8, which is no better. So that shouldn't hold you back

> Marfione would first need to prove that statements against him were untrue. Good luck with that.
Marfione has already admitted to stealing the ZT0777 design. He claims that he only stole it because KAI threatened to copy his scarab design but since that never happened that claim isn't going to hold up in court.
Tony is suing because EDC wrote an article on something Tony already admitted to? What the hell is he thinking?!
If you want a poll, here's one that I set up for the Skyline. Talked with /u/10042011 and we pretty much agree that a year + wait is too long for a group as loose as knifeclub.
https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/ZVG9GTN
Post it up if you want and I'll be glad to share the results, or I can modify it to be more general than just the Skyline (though honestly I think the Skyline is one of the best possible models to shoot for in this case).
On the topic of collecting money, I think the best-ish bet is going to be to run it through kickstarter or something similar. KAI's not going to collect money from 1000 individuals itself, and I doubt we're going to be able to get a dealer backer; they've usually got plenty of irons in the fire themselves. If we want to do it we're going to have to organize it and centralize the money ourselves.
I couldn't find it using the search function so I had to go back into my orders and search there. I actually have ordered two of them because it's so cheap that I felt like it had to be a mistake but it's still at the same price. For 10 bucks I was willing to take a Gamble and figured it would probably be garbage but it works really well even on my higher wear resistance steels. I use the balsa wood for the three micron and the leather for the one micron.. the balsa is a little less forgiving with angles but still much more so than a stone would be. It's perfect for taking off the microburr after one sharpens. I could still slice through paper just fine without doing that before but once I figured out how to do that, it really took the edges to the next level. Took me sharpening probably 500 kitchen knives before I would put even my cheaper knives on there. At this point I've done well over a thousand and I still see plenty of opportunities to improve but at this point I will put a better Edge than any knife I have came from the factory with.
With that strop I've managed to get 3 months out of my s35vn sebenza using it every day. Still razor sharp, just touch it up every couple days. Honestly it might be sharper than it was out of the box and it was sharp.
I just got this bad boy the other day because my old scale was terrible and covered in weed from my old roommate... ahhhh, to be back in college

You could look at the Civivi Elementium, it's right at that $50 budget and is a pretty highly regarded knife for the budget. I personally have one and it's awesome, the action is smooth and it cuts great.
The one thing you have to keep in mind with it or any other D2 knife is that it's not a stainless steel, so you need to care for it to prevent rusting.
Spyderco Salt I Plain Edge Yellow H-1 Steel Knife https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0017UZJ9Y/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_IUkOub07BSJ8H
How about this one? But it is $15+tax above your budget. But the Spyderco Salt series is probably the best for anti rust knives. And they all come in the yellow handle. There are other models on Amazon if you type in "Spyderco Salt". Multiple tests have proven it is very corrosion resistant. Of course, I dont know much about the Navy or A school or how much salt water contact they actually make.
From Amazon.
As for wearing the watch on the inside. It's about not having to stick out my elbow to read it. Which makes it easier to check the time without people noticing.
Amazon, it took a little while to be delivered, the guy makes them as the orders come in, here is the link Titanium Deep Carry Pocket Clip for Spyderco Folding Knives Titanium Deep Carry Pocket Clip for Spyderco Folding Knives
Since no one recommended it yet, I have to chime in with the Tangram Santa Fe. $30 new on Amazon, I like it better than knives 5x the price. I'd stay away from assisted opening knives personally.
I ordered this knife from amazon, this link: https://www.amazon.com/Benchmade-Knife-940-Plain-Handle/dp/B000QA9G2W/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1511052177&sr=8-1&keywords=benchmade+940
I have a box with the tags and the little bag and everything and it feels just the griptilian I own. But the action isn't as smooth at my griptilian and there are the main concerns listed in the album. I don't understand why it says 'benchmade.com/pat' and it doesn't even seem very centered or aligned.
Is this a fake or real?
Also worth noting is the 0450cf is heavily discounted ($140ish)right now on Amazon - See r/Knifedeals https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01B77720A/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_lh7eAbJREF8QP.
It is the black coated version, which may not be what you are looking for if you wanted to admire the smooth grind on the steel? I have the 0452cf and it is a little big for me (someone make me an offer!) But the overall shape of the grip and blade is both super sexy and functional. The one thing I would say is the tip comes to a pretty wicked point and might be a negative if you really put your EDC to work, but then against some people are harder on their knives than others...
I'm going to say the Tangram line by Kizer is a good way to go. Sub $50, with a few good options. My personal favorite is the Santa Fe, which is a 3.35" blade, with G10 handles, and an Acuto 440 blade. Mine has held up great so far, and it's plenty light.
EDIT: Here is an Amazon link. It's plenty under budget, and my favorite budget knife overall.
I just remembered this lol: https://tacnwo.com/collections/knives/products/josar-tac-26-tactical-folding-knife
This is a high quality Native 5 copy. People think it's either Spyderco factory-seconds rebranded or some kind of manufacturer parts refurb. The good thing about it is it has real s35vn steel with a 3" blade. Not gonna be as high quality as Spyderco but hey, it's a fucking knife, it will cut, it'll hold an edge, and you won't cry if you lose it because it's $30.
Here's the Amazon link but they sold out there: https://www.amazon.com/Folding-Knife-S35VN-American-pocket/dp/B074B9HLV8
Thanks! Been meaning to get a BK 2 for a while. It's a beast! The sheath is not near the quality of hedgehogleatherworks, but it fits the knife well and was only $40 on Amazon. Curious to see how it holds up. Link
This is the one I started out with. Right now it's $139 on Amazon. It will get you into the full range of colors from bronze to green
TwoSun is a Chinese company, they produce some cool knives at a fair price. They’ve even produced a few designs made by KnifeClub members. Their downside is that they don’t do any of the knife websites, only Amazon and eBay.
Tiny framelock flipper in m390
You can find one on Amazon. Although it's marketed for Hot Wheels and Lego people it beats the hell out of the stupid shit they have for knives.
Edit: Every other shelf comes out for a little peacocking, and the door has two locking latches.
Honestly if I was trying to defend against a dog I’d rather have a collapsible baton. It’s longer and would probably be pretty easy to break bones with it.
A knife needs to be CLOSE in. At that point any knife would work. I would probably just go with some simple fixed blade. A Mora knife. It’ll be useful day to day for other stuff.
One could see the argument for a serrated blade as a strictly “kill” knife, but I don’t know that that extra tissue damage would really matter that much.
Bottom line is the LAST thing you want to be doing is fighting in close with any sort of animal, if you have the option stay back and use a baton or cane or walking stick to maintain distance and break bones.
An Ontario RAT 2 would serve you well. They're $25 on Amazon and some of the best budget knives you can buy.
If you want to step it up a little and throw in $5-$10 on top of the gift card type in "CJRB" and pick pretty much anything. I have a Large Feldspar and adore it. The small one here is $35 and would probably make you really happy. Great action and build quality, just a step above the RAT.
I was interested as well so I went to go find it
"Budget" and titanium are almost mutually exclusive when it comes to knives. The only knife I know of that I would consider budget that had titanium handles is the Byrd Meadowlark in Titanium.
If you're looking for a knife in the price range that most people consider "budget" (<$50) then titanium is not an option. If you're looking for a good value folding knife with titanium handles, you're looking at $100+ for the most part.
With that said, can you give us an actual number value for your budget? That will be incredibly helpful.
It's Deliveries. It's great. You have to enter your own tracking # and description, but it tracks perfectly, and the $1.99 premium version will cloud sync all your entries to multiple devices.
Hey, I have one of those too! That's a great find. They're very old (early 1960's) and hard to come by. Where did you get it?
Here's mine with some other old OTFs I've collected.
I suspect they're just reselling some piece of junk from AliExpress.
>And now I realize I'm not the only knife maker that does this
I'm heavy into Fallout 4 and Elite right now. My partner just got a joystick to play Descent Underground and Elite as well.
>Any tips for someone starting on making Japanese cutlery?
If you have any specific technical questions I can refer them to my partner who is the proper bladesmith. My experience level is more at "enthusiastic apprentice". However, I'm working on my own nakiri right now and from my perspective the key points with Japanese cutlery are: a) thin and light blades b) very hard heat treatment and c) geometry. A thin, light, hard blade with the right geometry will be dangerously sharp before it's sharpened for the first time.
Don't do MultiOrder, that's just for the US.
The only way I have been able to find this link is to go to google and search "Paypal link to ship now" or something along those lines. It's weird how it is hidden like that.
See here how the cutout is very shallow on the finger side, compared to the spine side?
Ha, thanks that makes me feel good, because I'm a graphic designer! Website is down the road, but I put most of what I am doing on Instagram here https://instagram.com/rivenknifeworks/.
It's weird, most knife makers don't put a huge effort into their websites, most of them sell on the forums (USN, Bladeforums etc.) or right on Instagram. I'm not really cranking them out so hopefully I can sell the few at a time I put out on IG or here - I've sold a few here.
I used a warm mason jar full of This . Warming it up mitigates the violent reaction you get while doing this. But the fumes produced are still abundant and incredibly dangerous. Some really nasty stuff you’re working with to get this result

The quality difference is obvious. But so is the $300 in my pocket.
Non-titanium pieces will sap power and create inconsistent colors and or burn marks. It can be done. But definitely not ideal. If you must...attach the wire to the center where it isn't visible and the sides (button areas) should still come out consistent.
You can also use another piece of titanium. If you happen to have a sacrificial titanium fork or whatever to hold onto it with.
Are you sure those are titanium though? I thought they were aluminum. That said I've never owned a Benchmade in my life so IDK.
That's what everyday kiridashis like this one are used for. Every Japanese student used to have one, takes up less space than a twist sharpener in the pencil box.

My favorite has always been this Wiha 11-piece set. It's very compact and easy to use. If you don't need much torque you simply put the bit into the little metal bit holder and use it like a little pencil or what have you. If you need a lot of torque you insert the metal bit holder into a hole in the plastic box itself, which acts as a handle.

Yeah I am looking at the sharpmaker now, and the kit on amazon is $62 and then an additional $47 for the diamond grit triangular stones. Although tempting, I just don't know if I am at that point yet haha. That would be more than double what I paid for my blade. Hmm... I think I am going to have to look into a cheaper solution.
So, it doesn't have to be diamond grit to sharpen the 14C28N Steel? From what I have read it takes 4-6 swipes on diamond grit to get your edge. Does that mean it just takes more swipes on a ceramic grit sharpening tool? I am trying to understand whether diamond grit is the only way to sharpen this type of steel, some of the reviewers on amazon have confused me a bit.
Also are you refering to a sueshiro such as this combo?

My Victorinox Swiss Army Waiter arrived! It was supposed to arrive on Monday, but UPS lost it. Amazon had the replacement sent to me quickly and now I have a new keyring!
I took it to the sharpener right away, gave it a nice shiny 18° per side grind and then a 20° microbevel on the Sharpmaker.
Now I just have to get down to Costco and buy some wine.
Yes, that kit is the one I have. The UK Amazon might save you some money over the link you shared.
I have the arkansas hone in addition to that kit, but I'm now finding that I prefer the toothier edge of the 600 grit finish. I also use a leather belt to strop.
I have no experience with or knowledge of ceramic sharpening implements. Sorry.
I got it off Amazon.. It does the job but I think I'd prefer something a little bigger and without the glass door.
I think shipping's going to be the issue.
I haven't shipped to Finland before so I don't know if there's a significantly cheaper option than USPS, but the cheapest I'm seeing through them is $33 for shipping alone. The Kershaw 4007 only runs $25 on Amazon US, but getting it to you (for under $40 including shipping) is the problem.
Wiha is great. But I've found a cheap set on Amazon that actually isn't shit. It's from a company called Nanch. The bits are made of hardened S2 tool steel and feel very robust. The handle is also great. Worth a look.

Generic Dell OEM board that came with my work PC, you can buy em on Amazon, they aren't bad for a membrane board, though I tend to prefer the old Dell QuietKey when it comes to non-mech boards
I stumbled across this Rust Eraser Sabitoru Medium and Fine 2-piece Set on Amazon a few weeks ago and it's great. Literally just like an eraser, clean your knife off, wet the eraser, and the rust comes right off.
Just to throw another choice into the mix, the USA made Buck Knives 302 Solitaire is also a great choice at $23.04 on the Amazon.
There is a hardshell case from carbonfibergear.com and the trim is just a skin picked up on amazon. I dont recall which vendor I used but it might have been this one here. https://www.amazon.com/Zwish-Keyboard-Protector-Palmrest-Removable/dp/B01ELLAOAO/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1505044901&sr=8-3&keywords=carbon+fiber+skin+for+macbook+pro
