Cuurently playing a lot of Meltdown, Rebuild3 and I recently reinstalled Combo Crew after a year or so and am enjoying it.
I'll start with a few of my favourites, I think some have been mentioned already.
Co-op games where each person uses their own device:
Meltdown: Free/Paid version with additional content, 4 player co-op, shooter. Controller support
Iesabel: Paid app, 8 player co-op RPG hack-n-slash
Minecraft: Paid app, local co-op, open world, controller support
Dual: Free/Paid app(for co-op), free version is vs, one player must own paid version for co-op, no controller required.
Bombsquad: Free, co-op and vs, controller support
Soul Knight: Free, co-op, 2 player, rogue-lite shooter, controller support
Space Team: Free, co-op, group work pandemonium
Co-op games on the same device:
Badland: Free, 4 player, same screen at the same time, no controller required.
Superhero Fight Club: Free, 2 player, 1v1 2 button fighting/flying game, NOT co-op but this category is lacking so I thought I'd add it here.
Multiple bluetooth controllers required on same device:
Meltdown (Arcade mode): Again, Free/Paid version with additional content, 4 player co-op, shooter, each player requires a connected controller.
Age of Zombie: Paid app, 2 player on same screen with 2 linked bluetooth controllers, twin stick shooter.
Pass and play same device:
The battle of Polytopia: Free, pass and play, 2 player turn based game
Pandemic: Paid app, Pass-and-play, 4 player co-op board game adaptation
XenoShyft: Paid app, Pass-and-play, 4 player co-op card game adaptation
Use android as controller for a PC game
Jackbox games: Many games to choose from, PC (or other console) acts as base station and everyone connects their phones, from 1 to 100 players apparently, have found it works well for groups of around 6-8, mostly vs games, may be team based co-op?
Eon Altar: PC steam game, tactical RPG, co-op of up to 4 players
Hi there! It looks like you're asking:

I've enjoyed playing this with my wife: Meltdown
Also try:
Armajet (Action Shooter)
Brawlhalla ( Action Fighter)
Hades's Star (Strategy/asynchronous)
Also try: Soul Knight - action, our favorite coop game but only on LAN - there are forums that show how to connect via internet
Also, Not sure if/how these work in coop mode: Vampire's Fall Origins & Eternium
I think I played that game. Was the soilder blue by any chance?
Edit: this is the game I'm thinking about https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bulkypix.supahtroop
