Here's the full video, with audio
We've been putting a lot of time and work into offering quality games on AirConsole and we're pretty proud of these new additions.
But of course, there's always new stuff to add and things to improve, so if you have requests for games that you'd like to see on the platform, or if you have some impressions/comments from the video that you'd like to share, I'd love to hear them!
I can give out a few codes for a free month AirConsole Hero in return for valuable feedback, if you like :)
In case you're not familiar with AirConsole : it's a website where you can play local multiplayer games using your smartphones as controllers. There's a free version, and a full version (AirConsole Hero) for 2.99$ per month.
We have two games on AirConsole (phone as controller) that work in this way:
The former is a Werewolf-like (and venetian masquerade-themed) game that you only need 2 players for - it's more fun with a slightly bigger group though.
The latter needs 5-10 players to play and is space/scifi themed.
Both give you a secret role and don't require a game master. MM works with audio a lot, while Simoria is mostly text-based apart from the tutorial.
One player will need to start a Hero subscription to be able to play with more than 2 people (first month free, 2.99$ afterwards if you decide to stay).
To anyone who hasn't heard of us: AirConsole is a web-based platform for Local Multiplayer games played together on one big screen but controlled by smartphone.
We will be launching 1-2 of these games every week in the months to come, meaning you'll be able to play them for free on airconsole.com :)
If you want to stay up to date about new games on the platform, we try to keep people updated via /r/airconsole
Lastfight by Piranaking. https://store.steampowered.com/app/443450/LASTFIGHT/ The arenas are smaller than those of Powerstone 2. The variety of object is lesser. But you can spend good time on it with some friends.
DirectInput works great out of the box on a lot of indie games (especially older ones) and emulators. If you want a DirectInput controller to work on XInput games however you'll need to use some sort of compatibility wrapper that creates a virtual XInput device and maps your buttons to it.
A lot of people use x360ce. I've never messed with it myself, but it's supposed to work pretty well. It is unfortunately another thing you have to have running.
Alternatively Steam has recently added the ability to treat any controller like a Steam Controller, and thus can be used to map a generic input device to any gamepad or keyboard inputs you want. That said, it's still in development, and I've found this to be a bit finnicky to set up.
There are various games on AirConsole that support 8 or more players (there are 70+ games, player numbers are labelled in the store)
There was also this thread a while back about "8-12 player local multiplayer games"
This is a really good point. Inducing alliance between people without forcing it through gameplay creates amazing social interactions. We also though about asymmetric gameplay because of the feeling of being "the king of the world" for a moment is so thrilling. This is why small browser games such as agar.io became so popular! When a player becomes the biggest, everyone turns against him but he has the most power to beat everyone. This is something we'll try to create through our combat game.
Thanks for the game suggestions! We've played crawl and it is definitively a lot of fun! I've heard about Hidden in plain sight, but have never given it a shot! Will sure do!
Hey everyone, we just released an awesome little local PvP called Platfall.
As a bit of background, we have recently decided to spend a few weeks upping our game by taking on the game a week challenge. This is our first release in the series and we are really happy with how it turned out, but please do recognize that this was built in 7 days so it's not entirely finished.
http://www.kongregate.com/games/FieroInteractive/platfall
We would love to hear any feedback so don't hold back!
Also, our next weeks game (release on Monday NZ time) is another local PvP so we'll be including that in the next weekly thread :)
My Local Mutliplayer game is a brawler but I think it's strength comes from it's accessibility. Everyone I've shown can pick it up almost instantly but there is also quite a high skill ceiling where I feel like now, I am locked into a proper duel with my friends instead of just flailing our swords around.
http://www.kongregate.com/games/charlie_bror/gladiator-guts
Give it a go, If you like it I can send you people a PC version with controller support.
Hi there! I'm the game designer of a 4 player competitive hack 'n slash called Super Slash 'n Grab. We released the game in December, but we were involved in the Intel University Games Showcase competition at GDC where we won third place in the 'best gameplay' category. I figured I should share the game here, as it's exactly the sub our game was made for.
You can find the full game download at http://www.indiedb.com/games/super-slash-n-grab
Thanks for checking us out!

New updated page. Please follow https://store.steampowered.com/curator/32660802-Intro-Gaming-Significant-Other/ instead!
I'll definitely look into more single player share experinces now. I highly reccomend Stardew Valley if you guys are into that.
Hey! This Friday we produced the first update for our game FATAL ERROR, which is currently in Early Access.
The game is a competitive dual-stick shooter where camouflage is key for 2-4 players. The latest update introduces the ability to play 2vs2 matches.
Here's the game on Steam: http://steamcommunity.com/app/384100 We're also trying to do a really open development process, with this Features Board: https://trello.com/b/YM4O95Z9/fatal-error-development
I use dualshock 4s using DS4Widows. If I don't the controllers aren't detected by nucleus unless directinput is anabled in the script, which it usually isn't (for good reasons). If you have older version dualshocks you will probably need something similar designed for the version you have. Hope this helps, good luck man!
Angry Arrows is dirt cheap and most people tend to instantly love it. Super easy to pick up and fun to master. Has both versus and coop modes and an indie bundle has it on sale for $1 at the moment. One time I complained of a glitch in my steam review for it and the dev patched it up in the same day!
Grand Class Melee 2 is a battle arena that has similar combat to Legend of Zelda Link to the Past but with Final Fantasy Tactics job class system. Game has been out for years and still is receiving great content updates with a big one on the way.
Crawl is very unique but I have yet to play it four players. It's an action rpg dungeon crawler that pits one player, the hero, against the other 3, the monsters, at all times. If a monster kills the hero they switch places. First to kill the dungeon boss wins!
Here's my party game collection, it's a bit old so there's not much super recent stuff there (I haven't organised a local multiplayer session in a while), but they're all games I've had fun playing in a party context (so that might mean some of them might have a beer-goggles bias)
The first game my colleague and I made for the platform was sort of Mario Party inspired: Silly World Series.
We're a team of two and we worked on it for a year, so naturally, it doesn't have nearly the amount of content something like Mario Party is, but it is for 8 players.
We've been a bit hesitant to spend time optimizing games for 8+ players since so few people actually use that. (in Silly World Series, only 0.8% of sessions are played with 8 people, for instance)
I'm not one of the developers, but I was involved in consulting and porting support. I never know how to add that to post titles, so I hope my flair will do in order to distinguish this as a self promo post. :)
Sorry for the title-gore, but I wanted to have as much info as possible in there and the rules specify that self promo has to be clearly disclosed ^^
Definitely going to suggest Duck game and wand wars.
Just in-case, you can be in the same team in duck game if you choose the same hat.
Also a little plug if you don't mind, Ufo arena is an android game that has a local 2v2 football mode you can check out. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.RfriXy.UFOArena&hl=en
Hi, Would you consider this game accessible to the casual gamer? I run the steam page https://store.steampowered.com/curator/32660802-Intro-Gaming-Significant-Other/
and I'm wondering on your opinion on how long it takes to get used to these mechanics?
This game looks perfect for my steam curator page:
https://store.steampowered.com/curator/32660802-Intro-Gaming-Significant-Other/
Great to see more developers getting into the local co-op genre.
" I found there was a point in the game where I could not progress because it was simply too difficult for my partner. " - This is exactly the same wall that I hit with my partner. Yes Overcooked was fun, in its chaos. But Diner Bros looks like a more stable game, where both people contribute to the same goal equally, but in different ways. I applaud your approach to game design and applying your own experience with your partner into the game.
This is exactly the type of game that belongs on my curator page of games to play with a less experienced significant other: https://store.steampowered.com/curator/32660802-Intro-Gaming-Significant-Other .
Would you consider this game accessible to casual gamers or would the skilled players dominate?
I'd love to feature this game on my page:
https://store.steampowered.com/curator/32660802-Intro-Gaming-Significant-Other/
Hey mate, I created a steam curator page specially for this reason.
Check it out here:
https://store.steampowered.com/curator/32660802-Intro-Gaming-Significant-Other/
It makes looking for games for your partner alot easier
Hey mate,
I recommend Sacred 3, its up to 4 players RPG. It's probably what you're looking for.
Check out my other reccomendations here:
https://store.steampowered.com/curator/32660802-Intro-Gaming-Significant-Other/
Looks fun! Questions:
What was your inspiration for this game?
What software did you use to make this?
What is next now that this is released: hookers and blow with all the itch.io money or straight to coding a new project?
Why does your twitter have such big gaps? Multiple comas?
Color Ninjas
Have you ever wanted to punch your very own friend in the face with shark? Now you can!
Color Ninjas is a versus game that is all about randomness, power ups, cowardice and shouting at each other!
Go grab your favorite kid and discover the ninja arenas filled with random power ups in local / online multiplayer MADNESS!
Have a good time! :)
Are any of these downloadable? I saw the page for Laser Chain and read "2v2v2v2" and that alone got me excited.
edit: I see some of them are, such as My Little Battle Arena
edit3: Obsessive Compulsive Deforestation .exe download doesn't work. Error message states that it needs OCD_data folder
> , yeah i know it would be better to have controllers, but for some people dont have any controllers this is a great potion
Have you considered playing anything that uses Phones as controllers, or are you set on the keyboard?
If phones are an option, check out AirConsole.
(see this thread for more)
It's technically possible to do that with AirConsole games (the ones that aren't action/timing based anyway). No integrated screensharing, but you can use something like Discord.
Some of our games are party games similar to what Jackbox offers.
Neither of you needs to 'own' the game, but there's a subscription that one of the players can get for the best experience.
There are several games that allow up to 8 players (and a handful that allow more) on AirConsole.
You'd need a premium account (2.99$/month) to play with that many people, but there's a free trial month if you just wanna give it a go.
I posted about the game's initial release a while back: so far, it offered 17 co-operative levels, but now you can also battle each other. Playable right here, have fun :D
We just released a game called Penny's Farm on AirConsole. It's still an 'early' version (more content and an 'endless mode' will be added), but we already had tons of fun playing it. Link.
It won our recent game dev contest and I'm super stoked about having it on the platform.
8Bit Fiesta is the 51st local multiplayer game on AirConsole :)
This game just won our game dev contest - it wasn't originally designed for AirConsole, but released on Steam in last September.
I'm not involved with the development of the game itself though.
^^I ^^hope ^^with ^^my ^^flair ^^declaring ^^me ^^as ^^part ^^of ^^the ^^AirConsole ^^team, ^^my ^^post ^^title ^^is ^^okay ^^regarding ^^the ^^self ^^promo ^^rules.
Congrats on the launch!
When did you first start working on this and what did you use to build it?
I can't find this on itch.io at the moment despite the logo at the end of the trailer. Is that coming later?
Bought this which is 2 USB wired controllers for $23. They work fine but they're definitely cheap and do the job.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0B6HRVLZN/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Yeah... So im plugging my own really old flash mp game here. I designed and drew it.. I don't get any money since the primary acct links to the programmer friend whom I've lost contact with.. But it's free, on pc and hopefully gives you both some laughs in between the heavy stuff. Go get him tiger!
there is a free one on itch.io that is super fun called reopaf. it is essentially a bullet hell, four player, single screen game. before each match you choose three different shots and assign them to different buttons. each shot is wildly different and they are well balanced with different cooldown periods. your characters are witches, so there is even a bonus for catching the dead witches hats that is a nice touch
I used a Steam Link for a long time, but as others have said they're discontinued now and you could probably use a Raspberry Pi at this point and have it work just as well. If your main PC is wired into your router then the quality is okay but it's noticeably blurry at 1080p on a 4K TV.
Lately I've been plugging a laptop into my TV and using Moonlight but I think that will only work if you have an NVIDIA graphics card. I've had mixed luck streaming games from PC Game Pass to my laptop.
HI mate,
I made a curated list of games specific for people that are gaming with someone that has less experience in gaming.
Check out the "casual games" list on:
https://store.steampowered.com/curator/32660802-Intro-Gaming-Significant-Other/
Would you consider this a game that's accessible to casual gamers or is it geared for a more experienced audience?
I would love to feature this game on my page: https://store.steampowered.com/curator/32660802-Intro-Gaming-Significant-Other/
I would love to feature this game on my page:
https://store.steampowered.com/curator/32660802-Intro-Gaming-Significant-Other/
Would you consider this game an accessible title to casual gamers or its geared more to those that have played games before?
The game has to support some kind of input API. Xinput is the easiest one for developers to use and that is what they noways usually implement. Direct input is the older API and if the game wants to have more than 4 players then it must support direct input or both at the same time. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DirectInput#DirectInput_vs_XInput
Xbox pads works mostly fine with dinput. The only problem is that the triggers share Z-axsis and it can be a problem if the developer of the game has not though about it.
I think that four pads that are first connected try to work with xinput and if you connect more pads then they will try to work as dinput. The ones that have lights on the guide button are the xinput ones.
Edit:
better explanation of the dinput vs xinput: http://pinnaclegameprofiler.com/forum/showthread.php?22133-Guide-Xinput-and-DirectInput
And in case one wants to use DS4 controllers for non-Steam games there're always tools like DS4windows which emulate a X360 controller: https://github.com/Ryochan7/DS4Windows/releases
Hey guys, thanks for purchasing the bundles. Upon request from itch, we extended the Summer Moon Bundle.
Across all 5 posts, only 5 people commented. So... CONGRATULATIONS! You’re all winners! Thanks for participating. Expect a DM in the next couple minutes (If I missed you, please dm me). To play Meexarps, visit our homepage. You can also play other airconsole games too! I hope playing this game brings you and your friends/family closer together!
>The trouble with AirConsole is that they want to be a "platform" (yet another rent seeking startup).
Uuuhm. Yes, we're a startup and we're trying to make a profit so we can stay around and become an actual business. If we didn't try to make money, AirConsole would not be around, that's just how it works I'm afraid.
>There are apps that just do the part of using a phone as a controller.
The reason why we (AirConsole) develop our own games in-house and commission developers to make games specifically for our platform is because not every game works with a smartphone for a controller and many games require adjustments for it to work well, or need to be made from scratch in order to fully use the multi-screen potential.
A good example is No Heroes Here: if we had just tried to paste their controller layout onto a smartphone screen. In order to port the game to AirConsole, we worked with the devs to adjust the control scheme slightly so we could keep the interface on the smartphone simple enough that you don't accidentally press the wrong buttons all the time.
I'm absolutely ready to receive feedback from players about AirConsole, I realize our platform is not perfect and I'm always glad to learn what should be priorities in our further improvement of it. But I'm afraid disagreeing with our existence as a platform isn't really feedback that I can forward to my team in any way that makes sense.
>I often host people at my house and we all like games but normally the best we can do is jackbox party pack where the good ones tend to only be up to 8.
Check out AirConsole, if you haven't already. It will require a subscription to play with that many people, but we do have a bunch of games that are fun for 8+ people.
For example: (you can find these in the AirConsole store, connecting a phone and browsing the games does not require an account)
Heyo
You may find more stuff that you can play without a lot of American English knowledge on AirConsole. Same concept as Jackbox essentially (various small-ish games that can be controlled by using phones), but a lot more different games, many of which don't rely on language at all.
For something a bit more casual (less long-term progression) but actually split screen on one computer, check out Penny's Farm on AirConsole.
You might check out AirConsole. It plays like the Jackbox Party Packs in that you use your phone to play, but the games aren't trivia-esque only. They have up to 32 person games, I know, though I haven't done that many. Also, all games are free, but ads are played, iirc.
The games I did play were reasonably good quality, though I did have some latency issues being in the US. I imagine their servers are overseas, since the company is.
Not the developer here, but: While the footage above is from the PC version, there is also a version of Basher Beatdown on AirConsole that you can try already here :)
It hasn't got all the content and is not suuuper ideal for AirConsole's touchscreen controls, but it should serve to give you an impression.
We've already got a variety of 6+ player games on AirConsole, and I'm currently working on something new.
I'll post updates on /r/airconsole and my Twitter, if you're interested. :)
It doesn't have the boardgame part, but the project I've been working on for the past year is a minigame collection partly inspired by Mario Party.
Give it a go if you like, it's free: Silly World Series.
Yeah, it's known as Telephone Pictionary. You can get the gist of it just by looking at this example image.

You have any good recommendations for USB hubs?
Also do you think this controller is good for it's price? I plan to buy 4 of it
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07WD4TSNQ/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A1QSHC1AY9G6NX&psc=1
I had already a ps4 controller and a wiiU controller and what I did was buy 2 of these https://www.amazon.ca/Mayflash-Magic-NS-Wireless-Controller-Nintendo/dp/B079B5KHWQ/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1545511325&sr=8-2&keywords=mayflash
And they work absolutely amazing. I can use joycons on pc. You can even use wiimotes on switch I think (without pointer cause that needs a sensor bar) but I havent tried it.
10/10 would recommend.
This is the one I used for my laptop: https://www.amazon.com/Anker-4-Port-Portable-Aluminum-2-Foot/dp/B00O0KISQE/ref=pd_sim_147_1?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B00O0KISQE&pd_rd_r=489QEWG9DFFXEM0F6PWJ&pd_rd_w=usKGN&pd_rd_wg=cAAL4&psc=1&refRID=489QEWG9DFFXEM0F6PWJ
Idk about the one you were looking at personally, but I can vouch for the one I just put up there. However, I have since switched from laptop to tower gaming and have been using this one since the power adapter didn't matter to me: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00DQFGH80/ref=twister_B00FB50S0Q?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I have never tried an extension of the USB cable, but I have actually used a longer HDMI cable. You could potentially get a longer HDMI cable to plug your laptop into a central location or a location near your chairs and then plug the controllers in that way. Unfortunately I have no experience with USB extensions so I don't want to misguide you with any guesses.
It sort of is... though, the game engine we used packaged the android version with odd default permissions, like access photos, and check internet connection? Need to sort that. Also the install size is over 1gb compared to iOS' 400MB due to some broad packaging compression settings.
We foolishly limited the available devices to a select few when testing too. The next job is to make it available to all the other devices. As such we've made it free on Google Play - Link for the time being - help yourself! If it's unavailable, then comment your phone/tablet model, I'll enable it for that one first. It's such a big job going manually through all the 13,899 android devices one by one, filtering out smartwatches and tvs, won't lie, been putting it off...
