I found some a while back and the FPS was really bad, and battery use too. Would not recommend.

Real-time audio vu meter with a homescreen widget available. Currently using Music VU and it's the closest I've found ... but not perfect.

And if I can dream ... I'd like both a horizontal and a vertical widget display. Thank you very much!

EDIT - reason it's "not perfect" - it seems to lag behind actual audio being played. Makes me wonder if it's just RNG actually.
