I found MyPhoneExplorer the most useful. You'll need the mobile client and the desktop program installed, then you can activate "multisync" to automatically sync everything when you start the desktop program. Connection is possible via wifi, bluetooth and USB.
MyPhoneExplorer for android devices works great if you use Windows and the phone app. Free too.
For backup to PC I recommend MyPhoneExplorer.
I'm using this app for about 10 years (before smartphones where a thing) with all my phones.
You need to install the software on your PC and the app MyPhoneExplorer Client on your phone to connect the two devices.
Feel free to ask if you have questions!
I use my phone explorer app and pc client to access files over WiFi(it also work over Usb). You can copy folders over Wi-Fi to your PC.

I have been using Myphoneexplorer for quite some time.
When you boot up your PC, if your phone is in the same network, it automatically detects, gets connected and syncs whatever you want to get synced. Also realtime notifications, call alerts, messages, contacts, file access, everything is in there.
It works flawlessly for me.
I have used Your phone app as well, but it's a hit or miss.
Dell mobile connect also functions in a similar way.
There's an app MyPhoneExplorer (desktop/client) that could be useful, but since it has not been already installed on the phone, while at least minimal interaction would be required (Wi-Fi PIN, screen mirroring mode confirmation), if the touchscreen is completely inoperable I don't know how to help you. Sorry.
To access your Android phone from a PC using MyPhoneExplorer (MPE), please follow these steps:
Download the newest version of MyPhoneExplorer for PC
Install the software on your PC.
Connecting via WiFi:
Note: your cell phone and PC are supposed to be connected to the same WiFi network.
Note: you did it.
Note: if your touch screen is not operable probably the only option you would have is to try the installation directly on the Google Play website from the PC. Google verification to be required in this case.
Note: this is the most difficult part of the play if your touch screen is operable only in the lower part. At first, you need somehow to start the app on your phone. Then you need to provide a special WiFi PIN code for security reasons. If you've already managed to launch MPE maybe either you'd succeed to set up a somewhat simplest PIN code, e.g. 00000000, 11111111 or so with your partially operable touchscreen.
Start the MPE on your PC.
Go to File -> Settings.
In the Connection Tab under Phone Type choose Phone with Google Android-OS and in Connect via... choose the option Autodetect or WiFi.
Confirm your choice with the OK button.
Connect with your phone using F1 or File > Connect.
Now you're granted to access to your phone (contacts, calendar, SMS, photos, user files) from your PC via MPE.
You may try MyPhoneExplorer (free).

Can use WIFI, Bluetooth or USB
I've used MyPhoneExplorer for years, now... It's available for PC and Android (unsure if it exists in the iTunes store or not) but it has a fairly intuitive, if not a little outdated interface, but it provides security, bidirectional syncing, it's portable on a flash drive (to get around corporate installation rules), it's light, absolutely no adware or ads, multiple connection options (i.e. Bluetooth, wifi, or USB), the ability to view and totally control your phone from your pc screen, which came in particularly handy when I broke the screen of my otherwise-functioning Note 4 that I needed to back up data from, a task/note type app that also backs up to your calendar, and it integrates with outlook... Did I also mention that you can download this for free? The developer merely asks for a nominal donation (for which this app is worth every penny) but his site is nowhere near pushy or intense about asking for the donation.

Might not be the fastest or most fluid, but I use "My phone explorer". Its decent, but completely local without cloud services. Have an app on your phone and on the pc - you can use both bluetooth and wifi. Set up sync/ backup or simply browse the content of the phone from a pc, copy/ paste stuff.
Even write messages from the pc, but I dont really use that function.

I like to use MyPhoneExplorer. <- that's the PC client
And for your phone: MyPhoneExplorer on Play Store.
Works flawlessly with any Android phone / tablet I've ever had (plus some older Sony phones).
Connects over WiFi, Bluetooth, USB or Ethernet.
I mostly just use it for file transfers (camera, music, etc) but it also handles sms, calendar etc.
(I'm not affiliated, just a fan.)
I dropped my phone right on the corner of the screen once, rendered the display completely unusable, just blackness. I downloaded MyPhoneExplorer and it worked great. I was able to mirror the screen to launch apps although it was pretty laggy, but it worked. I may or may not have already had USB Debugging enabled on my phone, that might be important.

Also there's a Samsung-specific app called SideSync that might work too: http://www.samsung.com/in/support/convergence/sidesync/
Also I can't believe I have to say this in 2017 but...Make damn sure all your contacts are Google contacts, not local phone contacts. There should be an option to make that the default. You can check (on a normal working phone) by going to Contacts, "Contacts to Display", select "Phone". If you see anything in there besides yourself, export those to your SD card then delete them, and import the ones you just exported into your Google account. There is no reason to lose anything if your phone gets lost, stolen, or destroyed - they provide us with tons of built-in backup/sync functions to make that a non-issue.
MyPhoneExplorer
I've used it for years now- it hasn't gone through any huge changes-
It allows you to text out from your phone, in addition to some very powerful file sync'ing options to/from pc/phone
No cost- no ads on either the app or desktop client - donation supported
If you manage to set it up you could use USB-cable or BT or WIFI to access all via PC (which will mirror everything you have synced - so what you see on the PC is saved) https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fjsoft.myphoneexplorer.client Test it out with a working system... Sure you need a working phone with a signal for handling normal SMS unless your carrier/contract is web-based
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fjsoft.myphoneexplorer.client (controling only via usb cable, viewing via WIFI)
and SOTI Pocket PC Controller...was better than all other methods but they restricted it to original Samsung and Motorola phones and i cannot use it anymore...and you might find it anymore... ;-(
IFTTT has functionalities where you can save all newly received text messages to a Google Drive spreadsheet, same for call logs. Haven't used it in a while, but it can be a nice feature.
If not, there is a Windows based application you can use which requires you to install a client app on your phone and PC. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fjsoft.myphoneexplorer.client

No USB Cable required and it is fast.
Ja, genau. Und diese App: MPE
Check out MyPhoneExplorer. You can connect your phone to your computer via USB or WiFi, and you can pull files off your phone via WiFi.
I don't know it if is as handy as ES File Explorer, but you can do a lot with it. Back up your sms's and contacts, browse your phone's files from your computer. Etc.

always works like a beast!
MyPhoneExplorer.
A tool to sync your phone with your computer in many ways. You can also send/receive phone call or text message directly from your computer
About the design? Ow my dear... It's back from the dead.
The website, the Android app, the Windows client... Everything on this this app will make your eyes bleed and I'm pretty sure the developer is still playing Duck Hunt on his 4:3 TV.
But once it's correctly setup it works pretty well thou.
Due to various problems with the Microsoft Your Phone Link to Windows app, I switched to the free app MyPhoneExplorer Client for Android and MyPhoneExplorer for Windows. It works wonderfully and if there are any problems, the support is excellent.

You may like MyPhoneExplorer , it has a clipboard sharing feature plus a tonne of other.
Highlights:
- File sharing
- Contact, message and file/folder backup
- It let you sync your windows sticky notes to android
- Notification sharing (android notification in PC)
- You can mirror your android screen to PC, like we do with Scrcpy
- And of course there is clipboard sharing feature (it's in the extra menu)
This software is an equivalent of KDE connect (Linux). Even though there is a Windows version of KDE connect available, I found it very buggy. But this works great on my Windows machine.
Note: you can install the Android client from here
in your LAN with https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fjsoft.myphoneexplorer.client and the PC program
