Dealing with abandoned bikes is the Ordnungsamt's mission. Download their app and report the incident, and they'll take it from here.
> Or is there any period of time after which one can claim something which has not been used?
With something like a bike chained to a post, no. Had you found an item just lying on the street, you would be forced to hand it over to the Fundbüro, and then, if nobody claims it after six months, you could keep it for now (but still have to to give it up if the owner eventually shows up and asks for it back.)
A month ago u/withu told me about the Ordnungsamt App.
Some neighbors like to pile trash in front of the Building. Normally it stays there for weeks... After trying the app the trash was gone in 1 day. Thanks!
don't forget to report the Spermüll with the Ordnungsamt App.
It takes a while for them to pick it up ( usually around 2 weeks) but it works and they let you know when they do it.
That's sadly vandalism too.
OP should contact the Ordnungsamt, they even offer an app, do they act? Not really but it's the best shot. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.berlin.ordnungsamtonline
die app funktioniert aber gerade nicht, serverfehler. Vermutlich überlastet.

Finde das schon ganz nett um Müll zu melden. Fragt man sich natürlich, was dann passieren soll. Immerhin sollen auch bei sichtbaren kennzeichen oder personen keine strafgebühren oder anzeigen geschickt werden.
You could use the Ordnungsamt Online app to report it. (app store)
It's not the best, but also not the worst! https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.berlin.ordnungsamtonline
Gibt es schon lange. Hier auf Berlin.de Und hier im Play-Store, sowie im iTunes App Store
Believe this is the one - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.berlin.ordnungsamtonline&hl=en&gl=US
And yes im not condoning their actions, hence I went for ESH
I find posts on this sub asking about cases where they called the police are often just attempts to placate ops own guilt. You knew what was likely going to happen when you called the police, which is fine, but you have to accept that "guilt" (quotation marks as that feels too strong a word but not sure what else to put)
