Ovo, a simple and aesthetically pleasing egg timer app. Wind it up for up to an hour and watch as it slowly counts down; I use it mostly for cooking and keeping track of when my laundry will be done. Hasn't been updated since 2014, but still works like a charm on Android 10.
Truly the glowing slab is full of distractions. Were it not extremely useful in aiding my prayers and communicating with my brothers and sisters, I would denounce it as a tool of Broki.
Heed brother /u/BrosusChessiah 's advice and set a timer, friend. If you follow the Way of Android, I recommend Ovo. The spinning motion gives me mad thumb gainz and it's easy to rep timers, say in sets of 5.
I don't have an impressive home screen worth showing off, but I did setup Nova Launcher to open Ovo Timer when I do a two-finger clockwise rotate gesture on the home screen and it's very, very satisfying. If you have Nova and use Ovo, I highly recommend it.
Ovo - A super sleek little kitchen timer
That's not the OVO people are looking for. This is the OVO people are looking for: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.ilumbo.ovo
I can't find in google, but not when searching in play store, here's the link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.ilumbo.ovo
I did my own app as my second app and god knows how I did it so early in my career but it's actually a pretty nice to maintain app in terms of code. About 10 KLoC, so nothing too complex, but there's a lot of custom graphics code in it. Reopen the app in Xcode, fix 5 new warnings (hey it's Objective-C) add a new feature, publish, done. But it was actually an official release of an existing Android app with quite a bit of users, so not really an app I completely did myself from the ground up.
Enough ideas, but not enough time to build my own app to my quality standards, let alone market it. But back in the day (dunno 2012? 2014?) having your own app in the App Store was kind of the bar to get hired for any project, so that really helped my early career.
If you lack ideas, you could always create a framework out of something you already created. I had a merry band of files that I copied over from project to project and to help back porting features to my older apps I turned my autolayouts wrapper into an official framework. In 2021 it still helps to have some (clean!) code publicly accessible, also handy to demonstrate that you understand stuff like Git flow and Git in general, know how to use an issue tracker.
Figure I'll toss my junk on the pile.
Gestures:
I don't have any icons on my home screen at all. I'm able to fit everything I use relatively often into 2 docks, 5 apps/folders on each.
There are some other interesting things that you could do by throwing Tasker into the mix that I haven't gotten around to messing with. One idea would be to have a task associated with the swipe action on an app/folder that triggers different things based on how many times you swipe it in a small amount of time. So you could have one icon trigger A for a single swipe, B for a double swipe, and so on. A similar technique could be used to create convoluted pin codes of sorts, where an app that is hidden from the app drawer is able to be run by swiping icon A, then icon C twice, then B once or something like that.
Make sure you include an icon for… ovo!
