Funny thing is I barely use that toggle because when I need a flashlight I want it right away, so I use Power Button Flashlight instead. Glad it was added though.
What I really like about lollipop is Smart Lock. I never used to use screen lock because I use my phone too much and it is annoying entering that every time. Now, I've setup encryption and a PIN lock because with Smart Lock I get to bypass that at home, at work and when I'm paired to my car bluetooth. That's where I'm at most of the time so when I'm out and most vulnerable to losing my phone it stays locked.
The rest is really just aesthetics at this point in terms of user experience.
Power Button Flashlight/Torch If you don't have Xposed. The triple-tap sounds great in theory but I could never get the cadence of it right. I'd always need to try multiple times just to get it to launch. Also, you'll need the full version to turn it off via triple-tap.
Xposed Torch if you have Xposed. This is what I'm using now but it only works when the screen is turned off and it requires at least two attempts to get it to turn off. I've found long-pressing the volume-up to be more reliable than triple-tapping the power button.
Please use BetterBatteryStats to get the details of your battery drain. It's such a useful app for those with root access to be able to figure out exactly what's going on with the battery usage. No more guessing :)
Did you happen to use the flashlight/torch quick settings tile?
There's currently a bug in AOSP on mako that causes a kernel (Android OS) wakelock indefinitely after using the flashlight quick settings tile. You can open and close the camera app after using the flashlight to clear this wakelock as a workaround, or disable flashlight tile and use a cool app called Power button flashlight for now.
Not lockscreen, but easy to use: Power button flashlight. No root required; 3 clicks of the power button to turn it on.
A flashlight that uses your physical button, and that way making your phone a real world flashlight, since you can start flashlight without even looking at the phone. Here it is: Power Button Flashlight
Seconded. I use this one which lets you turn on the light with three presses of the power button within three seconds.

Is a one way, push the power button 3x to turn the flashlight on and 4x to turn it off.
Power Button Flashlight is one great productivity app, since it gives you the ability to start flashlight with the Power button - and that is FAST, since its a hardware button. No ROOT required! Disclaimer - I work for them. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.brink.powerbuttonflashlight! Linkme: Power Button Flashlight / Torch
