The absolute worst is this mobile wallet and payments app. Instead of the app name, it's "Mobile Recharge, UPI, Bill Payment, Money Transfer". This is disgusting to me.

Yup, android.permission.GET_ACCOUNTS
is the technical permission defined by Android SDK which is needed to fetch your GoogleID. This is of course displayed on the Play Store as just Identity. As for reading the SD card
, the required permission is android.permission.READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE
. The user-friendly name for this permission is Photos/Media/Files.

Well, think about it this way. Why does Paytm App ever need ANY extra permissions at all to recharge your mobile? Even if you open your browser and visit https://www.paytm.com, it should be able to validate you and recharge the phone right? But if you do it on a smart-phone, it will block you and force you to install an app instead!
And yes, Paytm app does need these two permissions to work (apart from tons of others). A visit to Play store and clicking on Install/Installed will confirm this.
Please note that I'm not specifically targeting Paytm here, all apps do it. The user is a product concept applies to lots of apps and especially those which need more permissions than needed to work.
Downloads doesn't must they are currently using it
