Get yourself the Buycott app from any app-store. Add Nestlé to your boycott list and use the app to scan products in supermarkets you think about buying. The app will tell you whether it's a Nestlé product or not.
Haha, forgot about that, thank you
Hijacking this comment to share this app that lets you scan barcodes and tells you if you should boycott them https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.buycott.android&hl=en_CA
There is an app called Buycott that tracks this and is usable when at the store via barcode scanner. Great way to keep track!
iOS: Buycott on Apple AppStore
Android: Buycott on Google Play Store
For anyone wondering how to keep track of what's Nestlé:
there is a smartphone app called "buycott"
It lets you scan barcodes from products and has a database of info on who it's produced by.
You can select to boycott Nestlé and the app will tell you when a product is from a Nestlé brand.
If you want to boycott Nestle (or any other company) I recommend getting the BuyCott app. It scans the bar code and identifies what company creates it.
We still currently have Buycott (that's the Android link; it also works in iOS and Chrome). It doesn't draw dead children on products, but it shows you what products use child slavery if you scan their barcode.
I recommend getting the BuyCott app. It scans the bar code and identifies what company creates it.
there are apps that can tell you which corporation products belong to when you scan the bar code, so you can avoid them, i used this for a while: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.buycott.android
> Probably any of the warehouse employees, since they all have barcode scanners on their machines and trucks.
Or you know, anyone with a phone.
I think Our Groceries deserves more recognition than it gets. Back in 2010 when my wife and I got our first smartphones, even back then there were a lot of grocery list apps. I let her pick, since she was adamant to try them all, and she picked this one. To this day, I think it's still the best. Free with ads and no feature restrictions; $4.99 removes the ads. It is a bit high but for what it does, I think it's worth it.
It's a basic list app that syncs between phones and the web. The first user inputs their email address, and any other user has to be confirmed by the user of the first address. Web access is managed in the same way. You can use the lists beyond shopping if you want (it's great when a lot of people want Taco Bell or whatever), and you can have a picture and barcode associated with each list item, for when you absolutely have to have a certain variation of something and you want there to be no confusion. Like my vitamin water packets. There's plain grape, energy grape, and vitamin enhanced grape. I only like the vitamin one, so I took a picture of the box, so my wife knows exactly which one to grab.
Piggy-backing on this.
For android, this one is free. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.zxing.client.android
There's free ones from Apple too but I don't know what they are.
Our Groceries
Great grocery app that is cross platform, multi user, and does near real time sync. This means that my wife and I can start at opposite ends of the store and not wonder if the other has already picked up something. Or, if shopping alone and someone else adds something to the list, it just pops up. Use it daily.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.headcode.ourgroceries
Find even more with app sales. There are other sales monitoring apps available that other people use, app sales is just the one I watch.
I don't know if over a million installs counts as obscure, but OurGroceries.
For the longest time, the S/O and I struggled with the best way to use Google Keep for grocery lists. It never worked correctly, or it wouldn't sync fast enough.
OurGroceries lets you take photos of the item and attach it to said item. If you're like me, and you can't tell any one of the 90 different kinds of tomato paste apart, this is a LIFESAVER. It also lets you enter in UPCs, for that extra "make sure this is what you get" kick.
In addition to being cross-platform synced, it will remember the order in which you placed items on the list, and let you re-order them. That way, you can have milk at the bottom, and bread on the top, if that's how you go through the grocery store.
You can make several lists for different stores (Aldi-specific items aren't available at Jewel, for example), make recipes with specific stuff and add multiples just by adding the item again.
Cannot say enough good things about it for people trying to run a household with multiple adults who do the grocery shopping.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.buycott.android&hl=en
There you go. Exactly what you wanted. I love the internet.
There's an Itunes version by the same name, but I'm too lazy to dig up a link.
Chinese stuff maybe not, but Ive been doing nestle for a while now without a single problem.
For everyone interested: Id recommend the app <strong>buycott</strong>.
Buycott is an app that lets you scan a product and see the corporate tree responsible for it. Makes it easy to boycott Nestlé and the Koch Brothers!
This is why I use Buycott on my phone when trying new foods. There are a good companies I absolutely refuse to buy from because of this type of shit, regardless of the product they make. Just scan the barcode and it'll tell you who's behind the product.
Stores all my nonessential, points cards on my phone and brings up the barcode and card number when I need it. I keep a pretty thin wallet now.
For fuck sake, how hard is it to put your damn money where your mouth is?
The only reason they're rich is people keep buying their shit. It's as bad a those that vote against their own interests. Take the time to know what to avoid, and get everyone around you to do the same. Band together and pressure stores to stop carrying their products. Boycott the fuck out of them.
[Edit] There's an app for that!
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.tsapps.appsales
Found this mentioned on the sub a while back. It's great for never missing a sale. Gives you a notification every day of any new sales that have started.
There's an app called Buycott that lets you scan an item's barcode and tells you if it belongs to a company you or others are protesting.
I got you fam.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.buycott.android
Edit: After remembering what this app actually does, it helps make informed choices at retail locations. I haven't found anything yet that rates other companies.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.buycott.android&hl=en
The app lets you select which things matter to you and warns you if whatever company that sells a product is involved with any of them. If even lets you know if they are involved in a positive way so we can reward them for giving a damn.
There are a few. I use one to figure out what brand Nestle is currently pretending to be as I refuse to give those ass hats one red cent.
Not sure if this is it but its the same idea.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.buycott.android&hl=en
I'm surprised no one has suggested the Buycott App (Apple link, Android link). This is my go-to app for making sure I don't support companies I don't like. You simply choose the campaigns you want to support and the level of importance, then you scan the product and it tells you which campaigns it supports and which ones it conflicts with. It can be difficult to keep track of every parent company or cause. If you decide not to buy it, it will give you the option to send a prewritten tweet to the company. Even companies I assumed were innocent turn out to do things like refuse to disclose where they source their Cocoa from (looking at you Lenny and Larry's All-natural Complete Cookie).
EDIT: fixed a typo
If you're android there's an app call stocard. I use it all the time and carry zero cards with me.
Stocard has revolutionized my wallet. It's a loyalty\advantage\points card storage apps which lets you scan all your cards and present them at the store through the app, so you don't have to stuff your wallet full of plastic just to get that 2 for £5 on fish cakes.
Barcode scanner only requires camera permission. It's light weight, fast, fairly feature complete and been around since the stone ages.
I also boycott Nestle and all of their vertically integrated products because of their water-hoarding, among myriad other despicable crimes that define the difference between legality and morality.
If you feel overwhelmed trying to trace the family tree for a product, try Buycott, an app that lets you see who you're paying
There's apps for it, dude.

I personally use Stocard, but that might be Australian stores only. You can add whatever cards you want as custom cards, though. I accept it's personal preference if you just prefer having a wallet, obviously.
> "sleep as Android" [...] requires a third party qr code reader app and those almost always spam your phone all day.
?
It works with "Barcode Scanner" by ZXing, which is the same barcode scanner that Google Authenticator automatically prompts to install if you try to scan a QR code. It's safe to use.
Make sure to check out app deals (especially some paid icon packs become free for limited period)
Raves: I was beta testing Cinnamon Grocery List for /u/ProfessorOakTree and not only has he been awesome for feedback, he's also made a fantastic app. I'd totally recommend trying it out.
Rants: People are gonna buy the Note 5 and the Edge+. They will say how great they are, and that they're inevitably better than this year's Nexus phones. And in 6 months it'll all be regret and 'why aren't I on 6.1.1?".
Also, there is absolutely no way that /r/Android will be happy with the new Nexus 5. We'll hear all this jerking when it comes out defending it, and soon after a counter-jerk about how other phones are better and why is everyone saying this phone is so great. Or god forbid, it might have the 810! What'll happen then? /r/Android will lose their collective heads.
Oppure salvarlo come immagine e caricarlo dalla galleria del cellulare. Stocard, almeno su Android, richiede un sacco di autorizzazioni e non capisco perché.
Unfortunately it often seems near impossible to avoid their products. There are so many that aren't branded as Nestlé. It's insane that apps like buycott are a virtual requirement to successfully avoid such a deplorable company.
Walmart and Real Canadian Super Store price match, painlessly. Use the Flipp app. No need to visit any specific store in this day and age.
> We need a complete list of products containing Koch products and companies that do business with the Koch companies.
> Most apps are just awful when it comes to QR readers. Haven't seen a good one yet.
Barcode Scanner has worked perfectly for years.
Looking for a app (or maybe even some webservice) that reminds me when specific apps are on sale.
Would be especially nice if it can automatically use my wishlist from the Play store, and when one of those items is reduced in price, send a notification.
I have only found AppSales but it doesnt access my wishlist, and it doesnt really work very reliable it seems.
I can't think of any communities, but if it helps find better games even a little bit, I use an app called AppSales that lists discounted/free apps and games on the Play Store when they go on sale: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.tsapps.appsales&hl=en_US&gl=US
This is just me personally, but I'm kinda getting into a mentality that the better, more unique mobile games out there will have price tags on them.
This app on the Google play store may be what you need. I believe they have an iOS version too. Simply scan a barcode and it'll let you know when you're at the supermarket: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.buycott.android
Out Of Milk.
Really, really nice shopping lists that sync across your devices and computer. It remembers your entries so you don't have to manually add items you buy frequently every time you make a list.
To-Do Lists
Pantry to keep track of stuff you already have.
Recipes via Epicurious
Local grocery deals
Bring! grocery shopping lists does exactly this. I use it with me and my wife. You can edit the list, and the other person will receive a notification that you just changed the list. Its been very handy so far.
Copy of my comment:
Get yourself the Buycott app from any app-store. Add Nestlé to your boycott list and use the app to scan products in supermarkets you think about buying. The app will tell you whether it's a Nestlé product or not.
that subreddit is amazing. if you don't want to check it manually or not using an Rss notification, you can download App Sales which tracks sales and warns you for wishlist apps (you need to add them manually though)
Just went through that entire list. Outside of the occasional pack of pre-made toll house cookies and some of the candies at Halloween, I actually do boycott them. It was unintentional, but I'm fine with this.
There's an app, can't remember the name, but will tell you who owns what brand. It's for when you actively try to boycott something. I actively avoid any Koch Brothers brands. It's hard as fuck. They own every major brand of toilet paper. The only two they don't own in some way is Kleenex brand and Charmin.
*Buycott. And it's a free app
If you really want to start making a change, you can get this app. It tells you what kind of corruption which each company is up to. Just scan the barcode.
Flipp is really awesome because you can easily clip coupons in the app and it adds the items to your list for you. It also shows you deals on items on your list. And when you're inside some grocery stores, it actually tells you which aisle things are in.
OurGroceries. No idea about Alexa (doubt it), but I've tried a lot of them and it's by far the best.
I was a stay-at-home dad for 2 years, dealing with feeding 6 people a day. I set my recipes' item lists in the app and got on Google calendar and the OurGroceries website and made a 2-week meal plan. You just hit add recipe to populate any number of lists you set up. Individual items in the recipes can be added to any list you want. They can be sorted any way you want (isle, type of food, etc).
You get to the store, check them off on your watch as you go. The watch has the ability to add items via voice/keyboard, I use the phone to add things to the list throughout the day.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.headcode.ourgroceries
Barcode Scanner is still free and works great for QR codes. It's based on the open source zxing.
this is really useful for seeing everything that's on sale or free. I come here mostly for the comments to see if any of these games/apps are worth my time.
I can save you the hassle of dragging yourself to the kitchen. OurGroceries (iOS | Android) syncs a shopping list across all devices that updates as you need it. The premium version allows photos to be attached to the items.
Can't recommend it enough, because I'm the kind of person who always forgets a paper list when I'm tasked to go to the grocery store, but never forgets my phone anywhere.
Buycott allows you to join a campaign to boycott Nestle (amongst other companies) and scan all your products before purchase to determine if they are indeed made by Nestle.
It's a pain in the ass, but they're literally stealing the worlds water, so I'd say it's worth it.
I know this isn't as good as wishlist sales notifications implemented directly into the Play Store app, but there is an app called AppSales that you may find useful in the meantime. It tells you about various sales every day (which is pretty meh IMO) but I mainly use it because you can search for an app and add it to your wishlist in the AppSales app. Then you'll get a notification if that app ever goes on sale. It also displays a price history for any app in general, which lets you see if the app has gone on sale at all over the last year. It's pretty nifty.
Es gibt sogar ne App namens Buycott dafür, die ich mir spassweise mal installiert habe.
Soweit ich mich erinnere, waren die Einstellungen extrem einfach formuliert, a la
"Was willst du boykottieren?"
[ ] Nestle
[ ] Fleisch
[ ] Palmöl
...
Dann einfach Barcode from Produkt scannen und grünes Häkchen oder rotes Kreuz bekommen. Funktioniert halt am besten mit Produkten grosser Marken, weniger mit der Supermarkthausmarke von Butterkeksen.
I can join the Google+ Community, and also the Beta program.
However, when I try the download link (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.imdevgary.cinnamon&ah=ZmEQsNRANhW_S3cUxZ1T1gyZXys), I get:
> We're sorry, the requested URL was not found on this server.
I recommend using Barcode Scanner to read the code. As for plugins, you can get those at the plugin store of your browser of choice.
You can download the Stocard app.
It’s an app that you can save all your rewards points and cards to.
It has a vaccine records blue square that you save your QR code to (by uploading a pic of your QR).
Super handy app to have and I used it as Apple wallet didn’t let me save my vaccine records to it.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.stocard.stocard&hl=en_GB&gl=US
Näköjään siihen on jo joku toteutus, mutta kotimaisten arvostelun mukaan suomalaisten tuotteiden kattavuus on heikko.
En sitten tiedä auttaisiko tohon tuo u/Ignorogh huomaama juttu että viivakoodissa pitäisi löytyä valmistajakoodi. Toki niistä pitäisi sitten vielä selvittää omistussuhteet.
OurGroceries Cross platform, family shareable shopping list (or todo list or any other kind of list...). Google Assistant and Alexa integration, and WearOS companion app available.
I usually just google "android gaming" and look around at some websites for news/reviews. I also check out nimblethor and tinylittlegames on youtube...sometimes they find some awesome games that I missed, even tho most of the recommendations come from this subreddit. I also have installed AppSales and check it every day for games that went free or have discounts. And lastly,I check a website which I won't name (I can message you the site if you want) ... it offers games based on whatever genre you want and also has a section for games that are "Coming soon",which is nice to see what titles are gonna appear (it includes some unknown titles which seem awesome)
It would be nice to have a website or something that lets you browse games based on phone orientation, portrait or landscape...maybe somebody knows ?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.zxing.client.android
This is the one I use. It's been on the Play Store forever and doesn't ask for anything egregious permissions-wise (and they explain why they ask for what they ask). No ads.
Not self hosted, but Our Groceries just works. Seamless and near-instantaneous syncing between phones. My wife and I have used it for >1 year, and it just works.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.headcode.ourgroceries
With current technology that allows for lightspeed flow of information, I'm surprised there isn't a global boycott on these shady companies. Companies are quick to disassociate themselves from controversial individuals for the fear of bad PR through association but why aren't we pushing for more?
There needs to be a global list of corporations that need to be boycotted. Brands to which we ethically should not and cannot be patrons. We, as a conscious and mindful society, must continue to be informed and aware as well as act on with our solidarity. Any corporation that violates human rights should be punished, if not by the law, then by the boycott by society.
Edit: found a list - http://www.ethicalconsumer.org/boycotts/boycottslist.aspx#s
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.buycott.android
I wouldn't recommend using Google Goggles as it is no longer under active development. I switched Barcode Scanner after I noticed the last update to the app was back in 2014.
I never thought about looking for an app like that and thought it was a super interesting idea.
No idea if you use android or what, but I found one that could potentially be useful.
This ones called Buycott. It's got a scanner for when you're at the store. I haven't downloaded it yet but I assume it's got a search function as well. The screenshots of the app even show what it looks like if you add Roundup, and it looks like there's lists that show conflicts with other items.
There might be others but I'm missing them in the ocean of Boycott Trump and Boycott Isreal apps, lol.
There is the BuyCott app. It scans the bar code and tells you what company creates it.
It doesn't work 100% of the time, but I'm always getting a good number of results, even with just a few hundred books that I added.
I've used both in the past before moving onto Grocy (which is lightyears more work, not a casual list share), but I can say that Cinnamon's dev is extremely responsive and very open to feedback.
>Does anyone else maybe have an idea how to do this automatically on android?
Android was the only OS capable of doing this until a couple of years ago. I see iOS finally caught up. This app is the one I've used for years. You should be able to install Google Camera though as well.
I really like the Our Groceries app. It lets you take pictures of each item, and save it as well. I've purchased the "plus" version (one time purchase), so I don't know if the photos option is on the free version or not. I also list all the stores as "Categories", so I know if I have to get one thing at the grocery, then another thing at the pet store, then to Target, etc.
As for listing the price, I don't see a separate field for that, but you can make it part of the description (e.g. "Eggs $2.99"). That's what I'll do sometimes with Costco, but for the aisle listing: I'll always forget that olive oil is on aisle 53 (and they're sure not going to list it), so the listing for that product for me is "Olive oil, aisle 53" under the category of Costco.
Nothing on this app addresses your wheel of food question.
Hope that helps!
Here is one that I have seen: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.stocard.stocard
Pretty sure you can add anything...
Found out last week that an app that I've been using for a while to hold my loyalty cards (Stocard) also supports Apple .pkpass files. Some airlines (e.g. WestJet in Canada) allow you to get the .pkpass file, and you can open in Stocard. It's nice because it auto-maxes your brightness when you open the boarding pass ... Scanned nicely at the airport from my Pixel 3.
Stocard (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.stocard.stocard).
There's a QR code scanner app for android that predates public releases of android. They've had the capability to integrate it since literally day -1, yet never did
My boyfriend and I have tried Out of Milk, and my parents have tried Our Groceries. (I provided the Android links, but they're also available for iOS.)
Google Keep isn't bad either, if you don't need an app specifically for groceries.
In case anyone is looking for a good QR scanner, Barcode Scanner is open-source and quite widely used.
https://www.reddit.com/r/AndroidWear/comments/70sofh/lg_watch_style_alwayson_vs_tilttowake_battery/
I'm happy with it. Yesterday I put it on around 7:30AM, took it off at 2AM (L-O-N-G day!), and battery was at 52%. I have the watch face off to reduce burn in (OLED). Also, the always-on display isn't visible in daylight anyway, making it a waste.
More active users will be disappointed. The most I used it for was checking off my grocery list while I was shopping, and responding to a few texts.
People don't care for the most part. I'd even bet you have their products in your home now and you'll have more of their products in a month. Same goes for me and mostly everyone else here bashing them. If they did really hate them as much as they suggest, then this wouldn't be a problem.
I use this app to boycott them for the most part, but I don't boycott everything because I do enjoy the pizzas they offer for the price.
Do you have Stocard installed on your phone? It occasionally pushes 'new offers' in stores you have loyalty cards added in the app for to my watch, which look similar to this.
It is like bar code, you point your phone camera at code using qr code reader app and it will decode and give you text. I use this app (link) on android.
Wikipedia link for more info http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/QR_code
If you have to do it all day, I'd recommend the old-school app 'barcode scanner' by zxing. Free, no ads, open source. It was originally written in like the early 2010s so had to work on really bad cameras with limited CPU. Now, on modern phones it is just stupid fast.
They have stopped updating it, but tbh it is feature complete. Just scans barcodes of any kind, including qr. I haven't tested it against the camera, but couldn't hurt to at least try it if you have to do it a lot.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.zxing.client.android
That's an upside down DataMatrix 2D barcode.
If you're on Android, this app can read it: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.zxing.client.android
You may have to turn DataMatrix on in settings.
It has been a few weeks ago my friend, sorry you missed it. I reccomend you install this app and put it in the wishlist. It will notify you next time it will go on sale.
Good time to link a useful play store app: Buycott
Select a campaign in the app, for example, Nestle boycott. Then you can scan barcodes at the grocery store if you're unsure if it's made by a subsidiary of Nestle and the app will let you know.
Out Of Milk fonctionne bien chez nous. Possibilité de partager la liste, de mettre le prix des articles, de classer les nouveaux produits dans les catégories, d'en mettre des nouvelles...
Here is an app that almost does that. You can select causes you care about our companies you want to avoid, and when you scan stuff it tells you if you should avoid it.
Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.buycott.android
I honestly wish there was some kind of digital drivers license mechanism.. That is the only reason I keep a wallet around and the rare times where cash payment is only valid like at the farmer's market. Otherwise apps like Stocard do a good job at digitizing everything I need in my wallet and don't have to worry about losing anything.
Since this deal is featured on their flyer for Canada, you can price match it at your local Walmart. If you do not have the physical flyer, you can show it to them on your phone so long as both the date and location are visible. I would recommend using Flipp for this case since it just makes the whole thing easier on mobile. Flipp does rely on your postal code in order to determine which stores to show you, but you can change it in the settings so that Best Buy shows up.
The OurGroceries shopping list app works natively with Google Assistant/Home. It's the best shopping list app I've used, and allows you to share a list between different people (e.g., your SO). Definitely recommend.
In everyday use, is there any real difference between that and the original one by the ZXing Team? Many of the enhancements I checked from the Barcode Scanner+ version are in the original version.
I tried a couple QR readers and it definitely recognises it's a WIFI network address but then it just doesn't do anything with it... Not sure what I'm doing wrong.
Edit:
It seems this app works, so it really depends on what app you're using and how it handles these kind of links... meaning your guests actually have to download a specific app to make it work because not all would (expecially not most pre-installed readers).
At this point it's not really worth it imo, it's easier to just generate QR link that contains the password in text format to manually copy-paste when you connect.
Or just give them the password. ^^I ^^know ^^it's ^^not ^^as ^^cool, ^^sorry
I'm not sure it has to. It seems like there is a list of brands making the rounds and that the institute didn't see a systematic issue beyond these brands.
So I'd suggest to boycott Unilever(they are Iglo and a couple of other unhealthy overpriced crap) and advise against buying Persil anyway since they are overpriced due to advertisement costs. Henkel isn't on my boycott list due to ethical malpractice(they are generally ok) but due to price.
If you need help finding out what belongs to what company, you could use something like this https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.buycott.android
> I suspect you're not actually avoiding all of Kraft's brands
With all these conglomerates' byzantine holdings structures, it can be difficult to boycott something like Kraft or Nestle (or whatever other gigantic mega-corp).
If you're committed to doing so though, there's an app that might be able to help.
"Buycott" (Android, IOS) lets you scan barcodes on items and it'll tell you whether it's made/sold by a company you're boycotting.
There are a number of these cards. I shop at Walgreens because they are the closest to the house and I will give them one and then ask them to try a second one if the discount isn't very much. I have a phone app called Store Cards and I keep them in that https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.stocard.stocard&hl=en
Cinnamon Grocery Shopping List is the one I use. Lots of products by default, multiple lists, recipe bundles and syncing (requires IAP) all with a well-made design.
OurGroceries is my goto app. You can even share it with your SO. Sometimes I go shopping and while I'm on the way, my wifes completes the list.
Edit: your not you
