I used this in fl. Except it was the phone app and they didn't have scanners. I scanned a barcode on my phone when i got the self checkout. And was done. The payment stuff is already in the app. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.walmart.android.sng&hl=en
A little bit of a stretch but not that much. It's not like we haven't been automating jobs for the past 200 years. I see it as an event that effectively encourages companies to review options for automation.
As a very very tiny subset of examples I'm aware of, I think of this: https://www.theverge.com/2017/10/27/16556864/walmart-introduces-shelf-scanning-robots
and this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.walmart.android.sng&hl=en
Both could reduce the number of employees they need at every store.
Looks identical to the Sams Club workflow.
Here's the app on Google Play and it looks like upon completing the transaction the app "locks" into the receipt-checker mode. I assume the SCO Host will then be given a TC70 to be able to scan the on-screen barcode, review the receipt, and accept it (releasing the app back to "normal").
I also assume for the handheld workflow they can randomly audit transactions at the paystation for the SCO Host to re-verify the cart contents. Every X transactions throw a Please wait for assistance alert and have the host clear the cart.
Still checkout will remain a thing, and I really do suggest you take a look at Walmart's solution for mobile check out.
Walmart near me has the same type of app.

Have you tried the app? I think that is what this tweet is talking about https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.walmart.android.sng&hl=en
