Perhaps ControlD can pattern their privacy policy similar to Mullvad?
It contains short, transparent and easy to understand details for the following topics:
The purpose and legal basis for each processing
How long is the personal data saved?
Data controller contact information
This service is by far the best, most flexible Smart DNS out there. I've used Unlocator, DNSFlex, OverplayDNS from years ago, and many more such as Ironsocket but hands down, this wins.
DNSFlex was second to ControlD and why I switched, not looked back.
Support is spot on too. I guess some things on your part may require fine tuning. Some services such as Australian ones, least for me are nowhere near good enough. Optus Sport being one example but this issue wasn't exclusive to ControlD for me.
I subscribe to many global services and to name a few:
Peacock HBO Max ESPN+ Disney+ Netflix Megogo Sky Showtime S Sport+ Setanta Sports Fubo TV Canada Vidio Hami Video Discovery+ India Paramount+ Sling beIN Thailand
These are many that I subscribe to and all of the above are flawless on ControlD. I wouldn't bother with a VPN when this gives me most of what I could want.
I had this exact same issue. My problem is fixed now. But the issue isn't caused by IPv6. In fact, my IPv6 traffic is generally faster than my IPv4 traffic. The problem is sometimes the anycast routing doesn't always select the best or fastest route to the ControlD DNS server which causes DNS not to return the proper IP address for your location. Instead, you end up with an IP from a location thousands of miles away. When this behavior occurs, the IPv4 route may select the best while the IPv6 route does not. It also happens where the IPv6 route selects the best route while the IPv4 route does not. I have seen the behavior specifically with fast.com which supports both IPv4 and IPv6. The best way to see if you are having the problem is by temporarily turning off ControlD and see if the problem goes away. If the problem goes away, you have the issue. Another troubleshooting method to use is to run a DNS leak test with ControlD enabled. You will want to run the test with and without IPv6 enabled on your client. If either of the tests are returning a DNS server that is not geographically close to you, thats your problem.
I think it may come down to the VPN client being used. In the case where I use OpenVPN, it looks like the Passepartout app supports DNS over HTTPS.
So I could put the URL in there?
I don't see that option in Wireguard client unfortunately. When I am talking about VPN, I am referring to my own self-hosted one, not a provider such as SurfShark, ExpressVPN etc.
It was suggested using PiHole for DNS over HTTPS but I cannot see where I put that entry in.
Thanks for the quick reply. I followed these steps https://openwrt.org/docs/guide-user/services/dns/dot_dnsmasq_stubby at the end of the page to enforce DNSSEC validation. I have DNS over TLS configured through stubby on my openwrt router and I set other DNS over TLS resolvers with a lower precedence as backups. Configured stubby so that Controld resolver is used unless there's a failure and then it falls back to one of the backups. That's what happened when I enabled DNSSEC, it fell to one of my Cloudflare resolvers instead that's why I asked. I'll give it another go but I didn't see anything in the logs for stubby. If I'm missing something let me know.

It is this one I think its only available in India.
