Well, Simple Music Player is probably exactly what you're looking for. Barebones player that's focused on doing the only thing it's supposed to be doing.
If it's not up to your liking, Shuttle is my second recommendation, less stripped down but still simple and straightforward in use.
Simple Music Player is a great choice. It's and open source app that just aims to be very basic with no unnecessary features.

Simple Music - Free, open source, no ads / bloat, somewhat customizable. This dev's whole app suite is worth looking into.
You could also try VLC, also free, open source and no ads. This is a full media player though, so it might be too much.
Don't know if it meets all your needs, but Simple Music Player is pretty good.
There's also 1by1. I haven't used it in years but it plays directories of music. 🤷
Use any player and add all the music you want that are in these subfolders into a Playlist/Album. You can use Simple Music Player click the 3 dots at the top right corner and create a Playlist after creating it open it and then choose the main folder you want and all music in all its subfolders will be included in that playlist.
spotify has had free accounts for very long. they include advertisements and have some limited functions compared to premium.
there are several third party apps you can use for playing music. i would recommend simple music player from simplemobiletools.com

>The biggest one is the lack of a basic music app.
There are countless music apps available o Android. Most phones don't bundle them in anymore but they are very easy to download. If you just want something really simple, this one is free, open source and has no ads.
I use simple music player. It just plays music lol. It's also on google play
A monitor input switcher and controller -> https://blog.tcharles.fr/ddc-ci-screen-control-on-linux/
Also a proper Markdown Editor with split auto syncing preview.
If you are looking for something that could be on Android too, a Foss music player that doesn't suck but is better than Simple Music Player (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.simplemobiletools.musicplayer), with proper folder support.
If you're looking for something simple, light, open-source and free, there's Simple Music Player
Or you could sideload the APK from APKmirror, which is considered a safe source.

Poweramp is my go-to music player, but I use the rest of the "Simple" suite of applications and just like the name implies, they are in fact pretty simple... They also use minimal - if any - permissions, which is part of the appeal for these free applications.
I have multiple music apps that stop when I start recording a voice message in Whatsapp. However one app is able to play the music all the time whithout a problem even with recording voice, so if you start the music using it I think it'll work with another media volume working. I don't have root btw.
The app is Simple Music Player by Simple Mobile Tools, available on F-Droid and Play Store. ~~limkme: simple music player~~
I tested it with Youtube now and it can still play the music with a video playing, while the stock player can't do that.
Edit: linkme bot didn't work so here's the link.
