To find out why a battery is draining so quickly, you should use a system app that measures which app is drawing a lot of power, whether an app's internet connection is drawing a lot, and so on. There can be several reasons or only one specific reason.
One such app is for example. SystemPanel 2

LineageOS fo microG is developed separately to the LineageOS project
From the LineageOS for microG FAQ:
>Why do we need a custom build of LineageOS to have microG? Can't I install microG on the official LineageOS?
MicroG requires a patch called "signature spoofing", which allows the microG's apps to spoof themselves as Google Apps. LineageOS' developers refused (multiple times) to include the patch, forcing us to fork their project.
Not quite sure how it works, but I think that it would first have to be ported to LineageOS and then the LineageOS for microG project have to release an image containing microG.
Official Support Site from Fairphone states:
> Our aim is to support Fairphone 3 with security and software upgrades for 5 years after the launch.
So that answers the second question, for the first there is no official statement as far as I know, but they are highly dedicated to bring new OSes to their phones. Also there is "official support" for third-party OSes like /e/
According to this the Google Pixel 4a 5g with the x52 5g modem does support most Verizon bands, hopefully this means it could be possible!
I helped a friend with exactly that question last weekend!
I would advise to use the lawnchair launcher that makes everything easily customisable!
I'm sure there must be another option but this just works!
Just checked the issue tracker on GitHub

It seems the problem i had has been fixed in the version of the AppImage you can download at https://ubuntu-touch.io/get-ut

So it should with no trouble.
Maybe if it doesn't work you have to run the AppImage as root? I know that there can be permission problems when using adb and fastboot.
My phone (ZenFone 6) does bins the sensor pixels to 12MP by default, however I can change the resolution manually in settings to 48MP to trade more detail for more noise, in FP4 I would expect the same, but when comes to having the 48MP some features like photo stacking (night mode, HDR, etc) or similar burst modes might not be available, so it might be that with some of those modes active the 48MP don't show up.
I suggest using "Open Camera" application (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.sourceforge.opencamera) and go to settings -> About and it should provide a summary of the camera features including the resolutions, for example for my ZenFone:

have you tried fv-5?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.flavionet.android.camera.pro
i've had great luck with this app on literally every android device that i've tried it with for the past many many years...
> I forgot about this other app, itsme, do you see it available? This is also very necessary for me.
There is an "itsme" in the aptoide store but it seems to be an unrelated app. Maybe other free stores provide this app or you can download it manually.
> - Do you use it as a daily driver ? any issues or bugs that you could not fix or it was not fixed by an update of /e/ regarding ?
Yes, it's my daily driver. There have been small issues like the launcher (the desktop view so to say) crashing sporadically or other things that I can't even remember. They were always fixed with the next update though and as of now I don't have any troubles currently.
> - And security patches, do you get then periodically? do you have any concern about using this OS?
There is an OS update about every two months that always (at least claims to) bring in security updates of the respective android version.
> Because what interests me the most if the long term support of FP, but it is not clear for me if I'll void the warranty by using /e/ and on top of that, if /e/ will be providing continuous security updates (not necessarily OS features)
I don't know how this effects warranty and what the future will bring regarding support.
That is great news u/lightfire0, thanks a lot for this feedback!
I forgot about this other app, itsme, do you see it available? This is also very necessary for me.
----
Sorry for the extending the topic, but may I ask some questions about the /e/OS, would much appreciate if you could give a brief feedback.
It is more about stability and security.
- Do you use it as a daily driver ? any issues or bugs that you could not fix or it was not fixed by an update of /e/ regarding ?
- And security patches, do you get then periodically? do you have any concern about using this OS?
Because what interests me the most if the long term support of FP, but it is not clear for me if I'll void the warranty by using /e/ and on top of that, if /e/ will be providing continuous security updates (not necessarily OS features)
Hope you don't mind the extra questions and again, thanks a lot for the help!
I found this app, which sorta polyfills the functionality: <https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ivianuu.oneplusgestures>
It's not perfect, but it's making it at least bearable for me, since I've already setup my phone and I don't want to lose everything just to root it :-/
Hi, I'm having this exact same problem with my fairphone, and I desperately need it charged ASAP because it's my daily driver phone and all my data is on it. How does one manually charge a lithium ion battery? I'm assuming the battery management IC on the battery itself should prevent any catastrophic failures, but I don't have an adjustable benchtop power supply, just one that has a knob that can change between fixed 5, 6, 7.5 and 9 volts. Will that work?
Or failing that, could a charger like this one or this one that's designed for a similar single-cell lithium ion battery work?
It's kind of bearable with voice messages and phone calls. (Of course, it depends how much you use those.) But if you use something like WaveUp to turn the screen on or off using the proximity sensor, the phone becomes practically unusuable on direct sunglight.
I actually went through the same: updated, and the system became pretty slow and crashed a lot.
However, the alternative wasn't great either: stay on the old version and its security issues. Not great if e.g. you use it for online banking or have passwords on there.
What I ended up doing after not liking the upgrade is transition to /e/OS, following these instructions.
So in that sense, you could go for the upgrade, see how it works for you, and if it's not great, you have /e/OS as a backup.
(I should say that the Fairphone Open upgrade is pretty simple. Installing /e/OS is a bit more involved.)
I don't have a Fairphone, so can't answer everything, but: * Regardless of whether it has a scanner mode, I would recommend this over the built-in camera app. Completely free of charge, was recommended by our teachers when we had to hand stuff in during lockdown. * Fairphone should be able to connect to any device a Samsung phone connected to via Bluetooth.
Good on you for looking into more ethical options even though you're not tech-enthusiast! I hope others can answer the rest of your questions.
I don't have FP4, but when Google killed Google Play Music in 2020 (and I didn't like their YouTube Music replacement app), my Android phone no longer had a media player, either. I ended up installing Musicolet, and I really like it! It has a learning curve, but it's quite flexible and powerful. The free version is completely sufficient for me, but if you want to cast to another device you'll need the paid version, which costs $4.29 just one time. Might be worth checking out: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=in.krosbits.musicolet&hl=en\_US&gl=US
Since you are used to have a copy of the music files on your phone, I can recommend Musicolet as your standard player. It is great at playing offline music, but does not have internet access and therefore cannot stream music.
spotify has had free accounts for very long. they include advertisements and have some limited functions compared to premium.
there are several third party apps you can use for playing music. i would recommend simple music player from simplemobiletools.com
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.simplemobiletools.musicplayer
steered towards wireless?
those that already use wireless headphones, sure.
those that are about to buy some, yes.
those that just love their wired ones while outside, some. namely those that can´t or won´t use the small and cheap adaptor for different reasons.
by the way, there are even those on the market now, so there is almost NO reason to want for a headphone jack besides "just because".
>The biggest one is the lack of a basic music app.
There are countless music apps available o Android. Most phones don't bundle them in anymore but they are very easy to download. If you just want something really simple, this one is free, open source and has no ads.
I would personally opt for microG if you're not going to use GAPPS https://lineage.microg.org , but in general I think it's a good idea to try out the stock rom on a device unless you have specific requirements.
Probably has something to do with this: https://www.android.com/choicescreen/
But I don't know why it doesn't work. It instantly closed itself after I opened it. You can also get rid of the notification by disabling the "Search Engine Selector" app.
What player does she use to play audio? You could try an alternative player like Musicolet (from which I know that it can be stopped on the login screen) and test if this is a problem of the player app, or if there is a problem with e.g. missig privileges.
It does not - its based on/off of Mer and is a gesture based OS with no Google services. It has a compatibility layer (if you buy a license for an approved device, there are free community ports without the compatibility layer) that allows Android apps to run but it's not necessary to use the device.
https://sailfishos.org/ for more, it's pretty unique and is fun to try out if you have a compatible device and like to tinker.
It look like you can. TWRP has a zip file for FP3 (here). I don't know how it reacts with the encryption. But you don't have to use TWRP to root the device. You can root with Lineage Recovery after you flashed the OS and rebooted to recovery. After I flashed the OS, I flashed OpenGapps and Magisk.
To sideload, go to TWRP -> Advanced -> ADB side load and start the sideload, then on your PC run the command adb sideload myrom.zip
. More info
Is MicroG mandatory for a no-GAPPS setup? No. But many apps will no longer run, as you are missing Google's framework/libraries (Google Play Services) that they make use of. MicroG is an open source implementation of Google Play Services which allows you to continue to use Google-reliant apps without GAPPS. More info
Well, there's /e/ which is even officially supported since Fairphone cooperates with the /e/ foundation.
I've been using it on my Fairphone since its release for the FP3 and think it is very suitable as a daily driver.
If you are Linux/command line savvy, upgrade to /e/ (https://e.foundation). It’s a privacy focused version of Android.
If you install Aurora App store (from e’s app store) you have a pretty and good OS without google.
I did it and so far I like it.
It's completely optional to sign into/up for an account and they don't store anything about you if you don't. There (surprisingly easy to read) privacy policy is here: https://e.foundation/legal-notice-privacy/
You can find a lot about it mostly on the forums. it officially supports e.foundation . twrp has been made for the fp3, and other custom roms are available. keep in mind that it has a fairly small userbase so its probably less polished than more popular phones such as samsung galaxy.
I would phrase this in a different way: e.foundation is going to sell FairPhone 3's with /e/OS installed. It seems to me that FairPhone is only supplying the phones. The only shop selling the FP3 with /e/OS is their shop.
Maybe I'm late to the Party, but have you checked /e/ android out? (e foundation
I just read an article on IT'S FOSS and they are searching hardware partners. I think FP would be the best choice and hope they will go that direction.
On YouTube I saw the ROM working smoothly on a red mi note 3, I wonder if it would work out of the box on a FP3. I just own a FP1 so I can not try it out.
I'm not a fairphone owner but I'm looking into purchasing the FP3.
> I thought the entire concept of a modular phone was that customers would just purchase replacement modules as technology improves.
Fairphone is marketed as "Modular and repairable design" not upgradeable design. I would love if it were, but it's not. Probably both hardware and software limitations within phonetech. I've loosly followed projects like postmarketOS and UBports and heard their struggles regarding hardware.
There seem to still be parts available for the FP2 if the FP2 owners need them.
I'll purchase the FP3 for the ethics and the repairability (read; longevity). Also because they don't ship the phone with a charger. Will probably put something like /e/ (worst OS name ever) on it and sideload a pico or nano variant of OpenGapps.
The biggest problem is the Google Play Certification https://www.android.com/certified/ - if they don't have it they cannot deliver the GApps for the masses. FP worked hard to get Android 7.1 it for the current hardware but the LineageOS maintainer will work on Android 8.1 (when he has some time). So there would be two LineageOS versions and FP have to maintain the old Android 7.1 branch as long as they supports the FP2 with all the old 14.1 LineageOS ecosystem...
Hello! I live in Idaho and got a Fairphone 3 a month and a half ago. I use AT&T and the only problem I've had is with texting: unless the person has an Android phone, it can take up to two minutes to send a short message. Here's a website about frequency bands/ Fairphone combatability in the US that might be helpful: https://www.kimovil.com/en/frequency-checker/US/fairphone-3 (Lol I don't know what anything means but maybe it'll help you)
Also, since I was nervous about using a reseller, I just ordered it from amazon.uk and there was no hassle at all. I was even able to select 'free shipping' and it came in ten days. Amazon doesn't have any official Fairphone cases though so that's a bummer... Hope this helps!!
You can buy usb-c to 3.5mm jack adaptors which also have a usb-c in for charging your phone at the same time.
Examples:
https://www.geargeek.co.uk/type-c-to-3-5mm-headphone-jack-audio-adapter-charger-cable/
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Headphone-Adapter-Earphone-Charging-Converter-Grey/dp/B08Y8X3GJW/
Apparently, cameras usually don't allow this, but there are apps where you can do that, e.g. this one here. Haven't tested it myself.
> the minimum brightness is still a tad too bright for late-night use.
I compensate this with Bluelight Filter / iBlue, you can choose filters of different colors - I use black just to make the screen darker after 22:00.
This however doesn't darken the notification center, settings or system notification boxes, so those will still burn your eyes.
No doesn't sound like modules need replacement. sounds more like there's a lot of noise on the channels (frequency bands) used for wifi. you can use an app like this wifi analyzer to see how noisy certain channels are, and which band your network is on. (specifically channel rating will give you insight on your local wifi network, there it will mention which channels are best for your positoin). then in your wifi access point (router/modem/AP) you can change the channel to one it recommends. that should make your wifi better.
the reason why i say this is because you mentioned that it first only got crap in the evening, and that typically is the time that everyone starts using wifi (which causes noise making your connection shit). wifi is basically a cable you all have to share, channels are different wires. so if someone on one wire is using a lot of data, you won't have any left.
The same thing goes for mobile internet, if a lot of people are on mobile internet, they all have to share that single wire meaning everything slows down.
during lockdown everyone is home more, and uses wifi/mobile internet more, this probably made things worse for you.
In worse case scenario there could be a hardware defect, but that wouldn't be very likely imo. unless this all started after you dropped your phone or something. it can also be a combination of what i mentioned before. damaged antenna getting poor reception, but then you'd notice the bars dropping in the symbol.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.zacharee1.systemuituner
This is the app I used to control enabling immersive mode on my Android device. I used it on a Samsung device but it should work on any modern version of Android. It allows you to choose nav bar/status bar and white/blacklist apps.
I know System UI Tuner is in stock Android but if it doesn't have the options, this app works.
I had some problems too. I re-calibrated my battery with this Battery Calibration App and now everything is working fine again.
1 1/2 days on normal use 18-20h on heavy use
I used an app called battery calibration to recalibrate my battery. it says i have 4179 mV of charge. let's see if it helps.
