For anyone wondering why Lawnchair is not completely free (antifeatures are noted in F-Droid):
Source Lawnchair.app
"Lawnchair has all the features of the Pixel Launcher (including the Google Feed)"
So I guess that this is the part where it is not completely free, but I couldn't find anything else really. But taking the headline here positivly it is indicating that Lawnchair doesn't respect peoples freedom, but they have in fact never said that this is their main goal. But I'm happy to try Librechair once it's on F-Droid :)
I helped a friend with exactly that question last weekend!
I would advise to use the lawnchair launcher that makes everything easily customisable!
I'm sure there must be another option but this just works!
Thank you!
But that is terrible. I really got used to my launcher. I can guess why it is required (due to animation and transitioning stuff) but that is still a bummer. Is there no way around it? Couldn't my launcher enable support for that feature too? Or isn't there a hotfix around for enabling that?
My launcher is Lawnchair btw.

I'm trying Lawnchair. It's open source and free - no nags to pay to upgrade for extra features.
Apparently it looks like Pixel launcher, but I can't confirm to what level as I haven't used a Pixel.
Comes with no feed - that requires sideload of an APK. I'm trying to wean myself off Google, so I'm fine with that.
I, by chance, discovered a solution. Download lawnfeed. After going back to pixel launcher, I realized Lawnchair doesnt have swipe left for news feed, looked for it in the settings and found lawnfeed. Download the APK off the website, its not on play store. Solved the issue. I guess it does something with the Google app!
Lawnchair is great, because it's based on stock launcher but very customisable and open-source! You can get the latest release from the Telegram channel. There's also an official subreddit r/LawnchairLauncher if you want to find out more
You can use a custom launcher (i.e. home screen and apps drawer) on the stock OS, such as Lawnchair or Nova Launcher. Much more customizable!
The only way to get rid of the Google search bar is to install a new launcher. My favorite is Lawnchair in place of the stock Android launcher. Then if you want a customizable search bar I use Simple Search.

You want Lawnchair Launcher v2 ALpha -- not on Play Store yet.
Join their Telegram feedback group, the devs are great. I learned a lot.
I'm using the Lawn chair V2 launcher. It's really nice. The one they have on their website (play store) is the stable version, I'm using the alpha V2 version, so if you get it might be different than mine. https://lawnchair.app
