Highly recommend smiling mind
Australian based not for profit. App can be buggy occasionally but a minor inconvenience for the excellent content and good ui.
Has many meditations from absolute beginner to intermediate and a few higher level, extended sessions
actually he's right, I've done those myself. meditation is one of the best things.
and there's is an app called smiling mind which guides you throughout your journey for meditation.
and reading books is clearly the mvp
The one I started out with, way back in... actually, so far back that there was only a handful of meditation apps (on the Apple App Store at least) and it's been going strong ever since.
It's called Smiling Mind, it's totally free, and I found it such an easy introduction to meditation.
If you're not sure what flavour of meditation to try, as someone with ~20 years experience in severaI different varieties (mindfulness, Zen Buddhist, plain old reliable relaxation / body scan) I'd recommend it - particularly for someone new to meditation - as it's pretty generic (in a good, beginner-type way) and although it's actually based on mindfulness (and to a lesser extent a few other schools) it doesn't use any unfamiliar terms or get you to sit in weird & uncomfortable positions chanting strange crap 😜.
It's Australian made, so on the upside the fella speaking is pretty easy on the ears and surprisingly conducive to meditation.

It's on the Google Play Store as well, but getting anything other than the Aussie store URL is currently beyond me - sorry! I think if you tippy tap it anyway it might just (if we haven't ultimately failed as an information technological species) redirect you to your country's store.
May you go on your way with a smile on your mind! 😊
